Listen! If I hadn't thought it through, he'd been a dead grandfather! Listen 19 year old kiddo, you know nothing of life yet and when you become a parent, you'll get the protection factor that all parents have! Younger sister protection is ok but nothing like the parent thing.

I live in a very racially mixed area of London and I have never heard the word in any way but a negative context. Also, everyone I know over here knows exactly the baggage the word means. There are similar words used over here to describe different races and every one of them is considered by the public at large - atleast the public I know and it is portayed simiarly in the media -to be higly offensive.

Maybe the crowd at a Bernard Manning or Jim Davidson gig might disagree.

I think that is an awefull thing for him to say, But I recomend the high road.....just supervise all visits to their house from now on, and if anyone asks just tell them the reason and that it is your final decision....the reason I say supervised visits is because if you say they connot visit their grandparents house you will only hurt the children.....so just supervise from now on. She is far too young to understand anything to complex so perhaps it is best to just explain to her that sometimes when people do not understand or get upset that they say mean things, and that word is something very mean. That even though people get upset, not matter how upset they are they should not say mean things, but sometimes they do.

As for your father-in-law if you think a face to face discussion might be too confrontational call him. Refuse to raise your voice or become angry. Simply tell him that the world is a tough place and that family is extremely important to children and they should be able to consider it a safe haven from the cruelties of the world. Tell him everyone makes mistakes and you are 100% confident (even though you probably aren't) that is was a slip of the tongue that he deeply regrets. Tell him you just want him to know that you know it occured, and to reinforce that it will NEVER happen again because that little girl is HIS flesh and blood too and it is HIS job to help protect her and be there for her, not to destroy her.

If you can't do it without becoming angry, write him a letter or email him.

No offense taken Bro. Well, let's see. My first daughter (the oldest) is light brown skinned with long black kinky hair. My second daughter is long silky hair (not kinky at all) and very fair complexioned. Then, my next daughter is BLONDE HAIR AND BLUE EYES. She has her mother's skin tone and her hair is kinky but it's blonde. My son is the same way...blonde kinky hair and blue eyes. My next son is back to wavy silky black hair with green eyes. Then, my baby daughter (the one that was called that) is blonde silky hair and blue eyes. So, I got my own little rainbow here. LOL! They are all gorgeous kids.
