Will content Providers still require Registration?

with all the talk of the Matrix database (however it got out) being used for the Acacia mailings, will content providers still require personal information while registering?

We, as a group, are typically reluctant to give out our personal information anyways, will these accusations make us less likely to give stuff out?

Only CCBill has my current and correct address, so I know who to blame if I get a letter :-D lol

We don't require registration to browse and never have, however I can understand why some providers would feel it neccessary.

Im just username, email, and a url.

None of which needs to be valid really. Your account is created without even checking the email. Since we do not send out newsletters or spam to that email anyways. We just have it up cause it prevents 90% of the surfers from entering.

I don't bother with content providers that require registering just to see what they have to sell.

Any content provider that requires webmasters to register their details just to see what they have to sell is losing sales.

I hate having to give out all my personal details just to see the cost of the sets. If I want to see samples, sure ask for some details if you really have to but at first glance I just want to see what niches you offer and how much you cost. Why should I have to give you my phone number to get that?

with the possibility of our info being sold or given out, why give up more than what we have to?

Any content providers that have taken down their registration, or kept it, give us any reasons why?

I think you're 100% right. Personal information is a double-edged sword - to avoid further problems all content providers should lose the addresses from their database - they serve no real purpose as most of the content is available for download.

I would personally make sure all our forms get the address field out - for good.

Best,

Yes, but on the other hand everywhere you use some service (even free) They ask for almost all your data

I havent taken down registration, because if anyone were to ask me for my clients information, i would tell them to go fuck themselves. If i were ordered to give the information i would delete it from my server. I'd rather sit in the hooskow than betray the trust of my clients. Anyone who knows me can tell you this is true.

I require registration in order to comply with the Communications Decency Act ... the internet is not the wild west anymore, and legit webmasters know that in the future that free stuff will be limited to "softcore" ... for me to allow unlimited access to XXX images/video would put my company at risk ...

As a buyer of content myself, i understand how content buyers feel, but i encourage you to contact content providers if you want to know more about their services prior to registration. All of the legit providers require registration because they are following the communications decency act ... I dont know what happened with matrix, sold out? hacked? shaken down? ill look for that thread in a sec ... but anyone who does not want to register with 219content, give me your suggestions for another method of restricting access to webmasters, of legal age, and i am more than happy to listen

p.s. ... i dont collect delivery (home or p.o. box) addresses, and my content site is fully owned by a European company ... i strictly have a sales agreement ...

Are you wrong in a big way. You should see our sales after sending out a newsletter, they absolutely suck, in fact we lose business by sending them out. People actually cancel orders because of it and no one ever visits the site becasue of a newsletter.

The problem is now one of our CC processors is saying we have to make people register before they get access to the HARDCORE PORN on the site, but I do not see the reason why people wanted the street address and number. That is fucked up.

Not as fucked up as people giving out your info. This will come out in court and probably get some people sued.

Has anyone here asked there sponsors or content providers if they have signed up? Might get some interesting replies.

We just changed our systems to require information from you. Of course you can still browse everything without registering but if you want to buy anything now you have to register. We did it just because of the volume of fraud we were getting... I do see the point though for regestering to see anything. We get a TON of surfers on our site just looking for free samples. Probably around 100GB a month is those damn surfers. But I also know we would lose sales if we required registers just to see prices and as a consumer i used to HATE that.

BTW we do NOT provide info to Acacia;-) check out what I wrote On the xbiz board: http://boards.xbiz.com/showthread.ph...threadid=16203

Really? That is surprising to me. We have been doing this since 95 and we always see a huge boost in traffic and sales after we send out a newsletter. Now keep in mind we do not spam and go out to grab e-mails. We only send to those that have requested it, bought from us, or dealt with us. And let me tell you we have never noticed any loss of sales only increases. Of course the adult market is frowned on more then when we did mainstream. When we did mainstream we used to get a lot of thank you e-mails for our newsletters.. Since Adult we don't get even half as many people thanking us but we do still get a few. And always huge boost on the site.

And perhaps you have lost money because you too lazy to spend 30 seconds registering for his site. Paul has some really good shit. I can understand the new fear of personal information being compromised, for now ill leave that as a seperate issue, but really i dont understand the pissing and moaning over having to register for access to XXX RATED MATERIAL ... for christs sake i would imagine most if not all of us sit at the computer all day either coding, designing, trafficing or whatever, but god forbid you spend 30 seconds filling out a form ... i just dont understand it. And i am the most "pro-customer" person in the world.

Ok, i understand the NEW fear now that there is some question as to whether or not a large content provider was hacked or turned over their dbase (i myself am a customer, and i myself received a letter from acacia) ... but we dont know the facts on this yet do we?

Speaking of which, whatever happened to the post that was supposed to come last night?

Then you are doing something SERIOUSLY wrong with your newsletter. We put one out once a week, same day same time every week, and our customers look forward to it... We've only ever had ONE complaint, and it was from someone who had never bought anything but had subscribed and forgotten about it. We simply removed him from the list.

You should DEFINITELY work on that it can be a valuable resource, both for you and for your customers..

Do most providers post a privacy policy on their site?

There isn't one on M#trix and if there is it shouldn't be in an area where you would have had to register or login to see it.

If you expect webmasters to register, then post a visible link to your privacy statement and stick to it.

Don't you think that's just a bit dumb? You may well have wasted thousands of dollars by not taking 5 minutes to register at all content sites that require that.

Since the launch of our new site and the Matrix db got out our signups have raised 300% on the good days.
We have even removed our Anonymous login feature temporary cause we have so many things to reprogram right now (it will return very soon though)
If you have quality ppl don't mind signing up.

Ppl please don't scream about not EVER signing up when i see your name in our database "or was that just a one time thing".
then again we might have enough previews on the outside to convince you of our quality?
