The point I'm trying to make (and JFPdude agreed with) is that the % of people who are hackable, both on their HOME BOXES and WEBSERVERS is ridiculous.

We sell scripts & have done many installs on client machines. I know the shape peoples boxes are in, and I know the lack of concern for security many people have.

Phatservers is very good about keeping me scure and updated with the latest security patches and bugs. I am sure anyone on this board that uses a phatservers server will tell you they are very good:)

It's monday morning and people are waiting for answers.

So I figured I'd bump this back up where it's needed.

On Matrix: My street name is miss-spelled in their database, and it was miss-spelled on my letter.

On Acacia: I only had two video clips on my site, and they were put on there about 2 weeks ago, but my letter was a "Final Warning" claiming that they had written me several times already.

Since my business was running fine without the clips I've removed them and have no plans to pay the blackmail. Even if their patents were valid (Which of course they are not) shouldn't their fight be with Microsoft and the companies selling the products that compresses and streams video? All I did was put a file on the server, it's the various media players and the end users that do the downloading and streaming.

So for me ... it can't be a registrar bot, it can't be a sponsor's db, it had to come from a content provider's db.

I'm not sure who settled and who didn't so I've yet to see the full list of names anywhere. But of those Acacia listed, Matrix is the only content provider there and I have bought videos from them.

So 100% sure, no. If I knew the names of the others who settled and if any of those others were content providers, or if none of the others were content providers, I'd be better able to zero in.

For now, with what information I have currently, I can only say that it strongly points (for me) to Matrix and to no other.

Same here, EveryThing goes to my P.O. Box address, except hard goods like content. So the Only Ones that have my street address (where the leter came to), are the content providers I purchase from. I have made one purchase from Matrix about 4 months ago (pics/vids), now I wish I hadn't.

Compromised, hacked, leaked, who knows? At this point I think it's irresponsible to talking much shit until the Truth comes out.

Norman has always been a solid guy. I like his content and respect his company. With how desperate Acacia is getting, I wouldn't be surprised if they...

It just doesn't make sense that NB would intentionally give out the information because he would easily be able to anticipate this kind of backlash.

Exactly. Get a cheap deal from acacia at the risk of loosing lots of clients?

There's always a few people that will have their info the way it is just with 1 company.

I know from seeing mail addressed to someone that recieved their letter that that happens. - Misspelling on the address. and it wasn't from Matrix.

siccmade 10-27-2003 12:15 PM

So when do we hear something from you, Matrix.. ?

prostock 10-27-2003 12:54 PM

now to me , if Matrix can find out who did it and they can PROVE
Acacia paid for it and we all know it was a STOLEN list i would sure thinks this could make hell for them and show the courts they are out to fuck people over , and are play the STRONG arm game to and wil people that dont even have shit to do with them or there shit ,

Matrix where are you man , have you found out more yet on to this matter , it is now monday after noon , and over your shit my partner took down alot of videos and we didnt get them from you , but you got the letter sent to us and that doesnt make me to happy , we have alot of cash in those and we are not going toget fucked by them ! Or you , so tell us what is up , i find hard to belive you cant find out who there did it or track the server logs or some shit ! :2 cents:

basschick 10-27-2003 01:04 PM

well, i wouldn't know if matrix did it either, and i don't know them at all but they are still the only place that i have dug up (there could be more) that uses my name the way the acacia letter came.

maybe matrix should look into possible leaks in their organization. if they didn't give away that list, it seems possible that someone with access to their database did.

after reading your comments and those of others I have come to the conclusion that I DON'T BELIEVE YOU.

this SURE sounds like backpaddeling to me.

if the database got out - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE.

Bullshitting about it being stolen or the like does not let you off the hook.

PiksalDesign 10-27-2003 01:12 PM

I too have 100% proof. I checked my Matrix account today because the letter i had was addressed to Jogn Blevins, not John Blevins, because i made a typo. I checked all other content providers and streaming media sites ive signed up to, wich totals to 3, since i am but a webdesigner. And none of them BUT my account info an matrix say Jogn Blevins of PiksalDesign.

There is my 100% proof positive.

P.S. I have no reson to tarnish the name of Matrix, I too have sent them MANY MANY MANY of my clients because there content is barnone, the best. (was) :ak47:

SleazyDream 10-27-2003 01:19 PM

here's my 2 cents

you know what. since matrix SOLD EVERYONE OUT and settled, this would probally be the ONE AND ONLY thing I could possibly see on their favor to prove they have ANY integirity left.

SUE ACACIA.
I would like to see proof of the lawsuit.

we seem to have several people posting that they have proof that matrix leaked their name, and matrix wants us to believe the list was stolen. If that's true then Acacia is involved in some illegial copportate spying and theft. Thus a lawsuit against acacia - without this then everything matrix has said is bullshit and we can pretty much believe and be GUARENTEED that matrix gave acacia the list.

i think that's a MORE THAN FAIR way to let them clear their name.

without a lawsuit filed against acacia ASAP from matrix regarding THEFT of their list then I and pretty much noone else here with a brain will EVER believe a word matrix ever says again.

MichaelP 10-27-2003 01:22 PM

Hello Norman,

I doubt that "MY" info came from your database. The address where I received the package is the one that goes with my paysite's whois info, and not the one you have on file for me...

Guys please, be cautious before accusing guys that are here for so long ...

Good luck whit that Norman, but the question remains, Why did you paid them ??? :(

:2 cents:

basschick 10-27-2003 01:37 PM

qwebecexpo, it is entirely possible that acacia's list had more than one source.

I got my letter TODAY. So they are still sending them out. I checked all the companies the listes in their patents, none of them i was affiliated with but 1. So i signed up with vivid using the name Jogn Blevins. But, i wasnt in their database. SO. matrix is the only one i registered to (not including vivid, wich i registered to TODAY 10/27/2003 after i got the letter) with the name JOGN BLEVINS, not JOHN BLEVINS.

PiksalDesign 10-27-2003 01:44 PM

ALso, i advise you all to print out all 5 patents of acacias and read them.

It makes perfect sense when Acacia says ok 2% or you can give us your contacts and their info who have bought video from you (which I never bought video from matrix and still got their final warning on my matrix account info) and we will only charge you .5% or 1% for the list.

PERFECT SENSE TO ME!!!!

I just confirmed my personal information that Acacia now has, came from Matrix content. I just got off the phone with Acacia and asked them what website I own that is in violation of their claimed patents.. The domain they gave me is a domain I have never used in any form.. no site has ever been set up on it and the only place I've ever given it out to is Matrix content.. It's the only name on the list in my account info at Matrix.

I've never bought any content from matrix only signed up to veiw the online store. I now want to know what you plan to do , if Acacia is using a stolen datebase which includes my personal information. I personally want my personal information taken out of Matrix's data base, being I've never bought content from your store and it dosn't seem you can keep it confidential

JFPdude 10-27-2003 03:32 PM

Hello Norman ... It's monday and I am listening to this song over and over again right now.

Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls."
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.

And I keep replaying this verse when I sit and await a response from Matrix:

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

Nobody likes a rat and be lucky most webmasters are to much of a pussy to do anything about it but lets just hope i dont get any packets. If i do there wont be any need for lawyers since i have my own little way of dealing with fuckers who like to sell out like little hoes.

I never took Matrix for sellouts before but i guess the facts dont lie.

You never know, he might have thought no one would figure it out with all the confusion going on, if that is indeed what went down.

In moments of desparation, one can make very dumb decisions.

Only 2 companies had my home address, matrix and my AVS, my AVS is adultbouncer, the funny thing is i stopped running that site months ago, but they wont shut it down.

Ok, scratch that. I've since received my ACACIA letter, addressed to the same name and addy on my MC account. This info is not in any whois info, and CECash and FlyntDigital also have different info on me.
I really hope ACACIA doesn't have an MC list, they have dozens of my domains in my MC profile. :(
Let's keep this thread active until we get some answers!

Theo 10-27-2003 04:57 PM

There's no doubt after this and the rest threads that Acacia is using Matrix's list. If someone of you still have doubts, I have an island to sell you.

Best thing to do is to follow Sleazydream's advice and of course seek who's responsible behind this as I said before. If you didn't give the info, most probably it was done by some employee. It's a common practise, specially when an employee is leaving a company, to get and later on sell various lists and other info.

justsexxx 10-27-2003 05:20 PM

Hmm still no acacia letter here, good thing is Matrix had my old INFO...

Maybe stupid question, but when Acacia send out the package to my old address, and I don't get it...Can they still sue me?

Because I think it's so odd they don't deliver it with signed post,...Just normal mail...So no way they have proof I received the packages...(so it's look more like spam :-))

Andre

oldnewbie 10-27-2003 05:23 PM

It's Monday... I wish they would post something. "We're still investigating.", "Please be patient.", "Kiss my ass." something.

I don't think they will bother with you being your current location.. but in the US you would have to be served legal documents b4 they could sue you.. these letters are just a sales pitch/threat

JFPdude 10-27-2003 08:21 PM

Actually in Normans defense he was contacting people via the phone and ICQ today (late today) and he had to evacuate where he was due to the fire in his neighborhood.

Platinum Dave 10-27-2003 08:31 PM

Man it really sucks that a company would give away or should I sell out the webmasters that kept them in business.

No matter what company did it. Everyone is convinced its Matrix, not saying its not just really aweful to sell out webmasters innocent hard working webmasters to save yourself a couple of dollars.

Despicable
