Doesn't the Russian Navy park nuclear submarines off the coast of the United States on a regular basis? I think it's a bit childish to be dive bombing military ships no matter what the circumstances.

I have to admit, I had some very opinionated thoughts of what I thought Russians were until I went to work for Dating Factory. Working with Dating Factory for the past five years has really changed my thoughts and opinions of the world, and Russians & Ukrainians specifically. They are no different than anyone else. They have the same exact hopes, dreams, and goals in life. Instead of playing silly games with each other, we should be welcoming each other with open arms. Instead of parking nuclear submarines and missile ships off each other's coasts and then dive bombing them, we should be welcoming each other's military ships into each other's ports. Russia should invite US Navy ships to their ports, show us their cities, and in return we open up our ships to their public. (Yeah, I know the difficulties here but if they can open up ships to the public in the US for fleet week, they can do it in foreign countries too.) In return, we do the same for the Russians. And the Chinese.

It's a usual thing (a mutually common one), so relax already - as we say: no bomb was dropped down and no single animal was hurt ;)

Once again: Baltic is a Russian zone of influence. So when you read such sort of news, try to reflect them to your own country. Like "Russian strategic bombers were intercepted by the US jet-fighters near the East Cost..." You don't like our cruise missile launchers near your borders, so why we would happy of your ships so close to our land?

That's a rather old video (the modern ones are secret and you won't find them on youtube), but you can to see the concept - a single missile and no ship anymore... Today just a small mosquito (SS-N-22 Sunburn) can kill an elephant easily. In case if it's not a single ship but some aircraft carrier group, a tactical nuke warhead will be used. I think you know that the result will is very predictable...

P.S. It's 21st century, so nobody needs Kamikazes anymore - remember it - a small cruise missile with a power of 10 Hiroshimas (not a big deal for a modern tactical missile) will sink down a whole aircraft carrier group

well, if any of the sides would decide to use nuclear cruise missiles on targets like aircraft carriers, and so on... that would met with counterstrike from other side...probably also nuclear... which would lead to more counterattacks from both sides ->> end of the world
I don't know actually if there is counter measure for any attack both from Russia and US..if any of the sides will decide to target something, they may send 5, 10 or 40 cruise missiles... for such power no anti aircraft sistem will be sufficient, as it will take only one missile that will hit the target......
so I see no possibility of open war between countries like China, US/ NATO, Russia and maybe few others

It's not different at all. We all do the identical stuff to each other. It's either submarines, planes, or ships. Russia likes to send bombers. But it's not like Russia hasn't sailed ships right up to the US coast.

The ship was tracking the plane long before it was in missile range.

And this a "no harm, no foul" situation. You do not buzz military ships. Ever. That's common sense. That's all you need is a drone flying off the ship or a helicopter, and suddenly you have a crash over a military warship.

Many US naval ships now have high powered lasers installed on them... it's still pretty new technology, performance is still limited, but even with this very early system they can successfully destroy many types of incoming missiles...

give it another decade or 2 for tech to improve and launching missiles will be as useful as launching rocks with a catapult....

I am not a Navy guy, so I do not know much about anti missile defense when it comes to ships... but I believe most US Navy ships have "automated gatling guns" that can throw a serious amount of lead to fuck up any incoming missiles.

On the other hand, I believe in the 1970s and 1980s the plans were to take out aircraft carrier groups with small tactical nukes... You don't need to hit a ship, just get close to it and make it worthless for the next one thousand years...
