Churchill made a real stupid mistake in creating the state of israel after world war II.

The isrealis should be thankful for the land they received after world war II where many jews liberated from the camps would settle to rebuild their lives after they were almost wiped off the face of the earth by an evil empire.

stepping in front of tanks, bulldozers, etc is a long established and last gasp method of protest which requires tremendous courage. It's a way to either stop an action or expose the true ethics of a given regime. Even China refused to run over a protester with a tank in Tiannenmen square.

I believe the jews deserved a homeland and a place of refuge. However, artificially created nation-states almost never hold. It's a tough situation for them.

In 1947 the UN appropriated land for two countries in that area. One for the Jews, one for the palestinians. The arabs refused and promptly tried to kill Israel. Then they tried a couple of more times and lost. Israel captured some of the strategic land in that area so they couldn't be attacked yet again so easily, which is what any country with a brain would do.

In the late 90's (I think '99) Israel offered to give land to the Palestinians. They refused again.

There are many levels of each. It isn't white and black. There are fence sitters. I guess I'm one of them, being that I fall in the middle of the spectrum on every political "test" I have ever taken. ------------- does it matter? if you're voting republican you're putting the Bushes and the Pat Robertson's in power. You're bringing WW III to a potential immediate reality through the irresponsiblity and incompetence of your party leadership. Why should I care if your ideology differs from theirs? You're not the one who's going to be in power, nor is anyone like you because your type of Republican isn't in control of the party, and has no power whatsoever within the party. In fact, the republican party is so completely identified now with religious hypocrisy, censorship and the drug war that it's very very difficult for me to see how any free thinking and literate person could ever BE a republican. perhaps you can enlighten me.
