The court of public opinion has gotten things very wrong before - it's possible (however remote) that the girls got pissed off, didn't want him around, or for whatever reason falsely accused him of rape. Maybe he is just a very forgiving soul and sent the letter to the girls to let them know that they won't get in trouble for backing out of their lies.

Underage girls have definitely been known to wield the power of false sex abuse allegations before - it's happened to MANY MANY step-dads in the past just because girls wanted to get them out of the picture.

This is not "two friends who made up stories to get Donny in trouble". Claims were made and dismissed due to lack of evidence. Then during a completely different investigation in a different county, unrelated to Donny, unrelated to the original girls, new claims and new evidence came to light. They were investigating a local Sheriff when it was exposed that this Sheriff watched Donny engage in sex acts with an under aged girl. That's when a full investigation was launched, Donny was arrested, and THEN they went back to the original victims and started to investigate them and decided to there was enough evidence to file yet more charges.

Without seeing that evidence, the only thing we all know for a fact is what Donny admitted himself to the reporter that interviewed him right after he was busted.

In the context of that alone I think Donny is pretty screwed without having to prove anything else, but that is just my layman's opinion.

Another interesting point is it sounds like he has a plea deal he could do 6 months and then be out.
I had a former friend that took that option when he was arrested for some kind of child endangerment after 2 years from the initial event. The kid got a broken arm and they took him to the ER. You should really dress nicely if that happens, shitty clothes and some tattoos will make people think your guilty.

Looks like he might have a short sentence if he cops to a charge but of course all of his evangelical work would be finished, and he'd have some kind of sex offender record I'm sure of.

3) Recipient of letter and her mother posted on Donny's facebook page saying they know the other girl is lying
4) Recipient of letter is 18 years old
5) Judge who set bail didn't read the letter, just took DA's word Donny was using intimidation in the letter
6) Article about threatening letter implies letter was reason for high bail. CV-1 bail set at 500K because girl claimed Donny was going to kill himself. CV-2 bail set at 500K because girl claimed Donny was going to hurt her boyfriend and CV-3 bail set at 25K because she said Donny did not threaten her or himself.

Correct me if I am wrong here. I understand why he claims he is innocent, however, at one point didn't Donny say that the officer asked him to have sex with his daughter while he watched and he turned him down and tried to "help" him and then later change his story and say that he was actually never asked?

I don't know what the case is, but my former friend faced that or 10-15 years in prison. For most jobs your life is ruined once you get that sex offender registration (which would probably be mandatory with his deal). As long as he had internet access and limited restrictions on that you can always do something online.

I never bothered firing up the sex offender app before moving to my place in Florida. Turns out I had one three doors down. He was the creepiest guy. You didn't even have to know he was on the registry to get the creeper vibe.

On more than one occasion I saw him sneaking what appeared to be minors (I'd guess 14 to 16 year old's) in the little passage way behind his place. I called the cops, but as far as I know, nothing came of it.

The city I was living in changed the law so that sex offenders could not live anywhere in the city limits because they'd always be too close to a school or church. That was done by design, as however many feet it was guaranteed every house was within that distance of one or the other. Unfortunately, he was grandfathered in, and despite wanting to move, he would not for that very reason. He could not move anywhere else in the city and still be grandfathered in.

If Donny takes a plea deal he will be listed as a sex offender for the rest of his life. At the very lest he'll be unable to do any work with his church, and at worst he'll have difficulty getting any kind of a job.

Personally I would like to see this all go to trial - I want to know the details.

Only he knows the truth, I'm a person that doesn't like gambling or playing the lottery generally because I'm a person that understands risk/reward and math.

I don't know the legal system extremely well because I've rarely had any run ins with the law other than a handful of traffic violations.
A sex offender charge sucks but I would take that if my situation wasn't looking good and it meant only 6 months (time already served in his case) versus doing 10-15 and getting the charges anyway. Unless he is utterly innocent and knows it... but considering past history this is unlikely.
