The FSC lifted their adult production moratorium today, so what has changed, other than performers having to test twice as frequently?

The result for performers is doubling their out of pocket expenses for testing that does nothing to prevent HIV spreading before it is detected, and only makes the window for exposure smaller (and does nothing about actual prevention in case a performer is HIV+, and is performing in between tests).

Meanwhile, many related issues continue to be ignored. The issues of multiples clinics with different standards, performers choosing to not participate in the PASS System, some companies who test but do not require condoms (and even discourage condom usage), some shooting with condoms that do not conduct HIV screening (or don't care about HIV status as long as condoms are used), and some companies that are even shooting HIV+ performers without condoms.

The moratorium may be over, but the clusterfuck continues... :disgust

Porn Producer Vows to Mandate Condoms after HIV Scare
By Elizabeth Cohen, CNN Senior Medical Correspondent
Fri September 20, 2013

(CNN) -- Over the summer, veteran porn producer Tristan Taormino was looking for performers for her new movie. A casting agent recommended a woman named Cameron Bay, and Taormino put her on her short list.

Less than two weeks later, Taormino found out Bay had HIV. It shook her up -- imagine if Bay had been on her set, she thought to herself, possibly transmitting the disease to the other performers.

That was the moment, Taormino says, that she decided to make a fundamental change in the way she does business and become one of the few straight porn producers to require condoms on her set.

"It just struck me we need to take a step back and look at how we can give people the safest work experience possible," she says. "I can no longer roll the dice on my set."

Taormino knows she's going to get heat for her decision from within her own industry.

Even with three recent cases of HIV among performers (Bay is one of them) many porn producers and performers are still fighting against mandatory condom use. According to the Free Speech Coalition, which represents the adult entertainment industry, when they tried using condoms nine years ago after another HIV outbreak, the $14 billion-a-year business saw revenue decline as much as 30%.

The industry group says in the recent cases, the performers did not contract the virus at work and didn't transmit it to any other performers. After the HIV cases were revealed, the industry shut itself down temporarily and required all performers to be re-tested for sexually transmitted infections. The moratorium ended Friday and performers went back to work.

Porn producers say performers are protected on the job because they have the option of using condoms if they want to. Plus, performers are tested for sexually transmitted infections every two weeks, and producers have access to the testing service's database that says whether performers are clear to work.

In November, Los Angeles County passed an ordinance requiring condom use on porn sets, but industry insiders say the rule is not well enforced and often ignored.
Council votes for condom mandate in adult films.

"We support choice for performers, as well as the successful testing system that has been in place since 1998, which have resulted in no on-set transmission of HIV in nine years, nationwide," Diane Duke, the coalition's CEO says on the group's website.

Many performers agree.

"We all take a risk going to work every day," performer Danny Wylde wrote in a blog post. "It's a managed risk. And it's something I choose to participate in so that I can get a paycheck at the end of my day."

But Taormino worries that the risk is perhaps not so well managed. She points out that the HIV cases, plus some recent cases of syphilis and hepatitis, show testing isn't foolproof. First, performers can become infected during the two week window between tests. Second, because of the nature of the HIV test, a person can become infected with the virus and still test negative for 7-10 days, according to the Free Speech Coalition.

Taormino says she'll require condoms even if she loses some viewers -- but she's not so sure she will.

"I know there's a lot of talk about how porn watchers don't want to see condoms and sales will plummet and everyone's going to be miserable," says Taormino. "But I'm not buying it."

Taormino, co-editor of "The Feminist Porn Book: The Politics of Producing Pleasure," does however, buy a different argument: some female performers say condoms are irritating and after a full day on the set they end up with abrasions inside their vaginas, and bacteria and viruses could find their way into the tiny cuts.

Dr. J. Craig Strafford says he's heard about this from many of his female patients -- he calls it "floor burn."

"This complaint is legitimate. It's a real physiological problem," says Strafford, a past vice president of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists who runs reproductive health and sexually transmitted disease clinics in Ohio.

"It's like when you fall off a bike and get a scraped knee. It could get infected if you don't clean it up," he says.

He says one solution might be to use a condom that's not made of latex, since some people find those irritating and abrasive, but non-latex condoms are often not available in the larger sizes male performers need.

But Strafford is clear: Even with the "floor burn" concern, it's still safer to use a condom.
"Not using condoms is not an option," he says.

Taormino agrees there's no easy solution for "floor burn," but condoms are still a must.
"I know it feels like I'm going out on a limb, but I hope that others will join me," she says.

They may already be joining her. While Wylde, who's acted in some of Taormino's productions, says he prefers to perform without a condom, he won't say no to a condom-only offer.

"If a porn producer is confident that he/she is able to maintain a viable business and provide the extra safety of barrier protection for performers, I'm 100% on board," he wrote in an email to CNN.

It's a shame but condoms in porn will never catch on and become the norm.

These 3 factors guarantee the ultimate demise of straight condom porn:

1. Too many guys immediately change the channel when they see a condom on a penis.
2. Medical science is advancing on STI's and AIDS to the point where risks levels are becoming negligible and diseases manageable.
3. There will always be plenty of places to produce porn without these laws, Producers will simply move.

I applaud those fighting for these regulations but it's a futile pursuit.

Another Director Goes All Condom
By MikeSouth
September 21st, 2013

I?m told that Glen King is now condom only.

I seriously applaud the people in this biz who are starting to see that at least until we can come up with a better system and testing than PASS it is time to go condom only.

If more directors start doing this we could head off further legislation and start work on a testing system that is NOT in the hands of The FSC, that protects the talent and that works.

Kudos to Glen also Tom Byron, Alana Evans, Devon Michaels, Tristan Taormino, Brad Armstrong, Stormy Daniels, Nikki Charm, and everyone else who is going condom only at least until this all gets fixed.

If ANYONE gets denied a job for asking for a condom or pressured to shoot without one in any way, let me know I WILL absolutely rain HELL on whomever does that to you.

Glenn King Writes About Why He Has Decided To Use Testing and Condoms On His Productions

This wasn?t a recent decision for me, it was decided around 5 months ago. I proposed to Evil Angel back in May that I produce/direct my first hardcore sex series. When I told Christian Mann it was going to be all condom, his answer was (I paraphrase) ?we are not against condoms. We are for choice. We leave that decision up to you, the producer. We support your decision 100%.. we are much more interested in whether you can bring us content that is compelling, unique, and marketable?. Nacho Vidal is also shooting condom content for Evil Angel. It?s not a problem.

Just to be clear, though, I use all condoms in my videos because it?s the law. If the law were to allow, I would be condom optional. I would film a speech before every scene where I explain to all performers that the best way to minimize risk is to use condoms.

If they chose to decline, I would ask them to sign a piece of paper acknowledging that they made an informed, consensual decision. My guess is that 50% of the time, the performers would decline to use condoms.

I use the PASS system along with the condoms. I don?t care which medical facility a performer tests with and I don?t want to see a paper test than can be modified. My PM logs into the PASS system the day before the scene at 4PM.

If the performer doesn?t have a green light in the system, the agent has an hour to correct this. If the performer doesnt have a green light by 5PM the day before, he or she is replaced in the scene. We don?t need to know why, just that the performer is not eligible to perform in this scene.

I don?t think it?s particularly notable that I?m using condoms in my scenes. I talked to a lot of producers at the last meeting who are heading in that direction, or at least in the direction of being condom-optional. It?s probably more notable that I?m paying each performer a $25 testing subsidy with each scene.

I think it?s wishful thinking when someone says ?the perfomers make plenty of money. If they can?t afford more testing they should sell some of their gucci purses? and its equally naive to think that producers are making so much money that we can easily afford to pay for testing.

The big money days in porn are long gone? For almost every producer I know, every extra dollar that comes out of our pocket is painful. 14 day testing is going to be financially painful and I think we should share in the burden, or maybe figure out a system where tests can be paid for out of a producer funded account.

I got a little story to tell about a little thing called pimping 101. The sad thing is the talent would be the bitch in this case and not even realize it. They are blinded thinking they are safe and cared for while their pockets are being emptied out right in front of their faces with no voice to talk back.

The FSC or APHSS owns cutting edge testing. It's a million dollar industry. When the FSC heard they could make talent pay 2xs as much a month for testing, like shark they smelled blood in the water and attacked.

They charge $150 for a test to perform, x2 = $300 a month, 300 of your hard earned dollars taken from you just like a pimp takes taxes in the streets.

These same tests are offered by the county and AHF for free. Why no condoms you ask? Because it would shut down there million dollar industry.

Wait let's not forget about Gonorrhea and Chlamydia that gets passed around like candy. Why would they want condoms when they would lose another $100 of your hard earned money to treat you.

Let's remember you have to go back to the clinic you tested at to get your treatment. Let me ask the FSC this how was your testing system the safest and most flawless thing known to mankind when one of the male talent was running around with HEP C for 3 years infecting people?

Wait you fixed that, another test more money in your pocket. How was the testing system flawless and the safest thing known to mankind when another male talent was running around with syphilis infecting many more talent because he was using a falsified test?

Where was the concern for the talent then? Let's not forget the talent are the ones that make the wheels turn on this billion dollar machine. Without talent this industry does not exist.

The FSC also forgets to mention that AIM healthcare was shut down because it leaked all of their patients personal information and std results. Ummm any medical facility practicing like that damn well better be shut down.

You guys sit there and try to take jabs at AHF because they were a part of a shady business being shut down. Don't forget that also opened the window for you guys. AHF is not trying to shut down the industry and anyone that thinks that really needs to wake the fuck up.

AHF will give out condoms to studios for free and also test talent for free. AHF actually cares about talents safety and health unlike those other cats who rob you and keep the blinders on.The porn industry is like an atom on the tip of your finger compared to what AHF does worldwide in helping sick people.

Last time I checked helping sick people was a damn good thing. Oh and I forgot these people they help they don't charge them. So maybe your test helps detect the presence of HIV faster, but HIV is not the only sexually transmitted disease. This is a legal business and since it is a legal business the studios should pay for the test at the least.

So let's see by my count your testing has fucked up a lot of people and is no more safe then me being drunk and blind folded then driving a car down the freeway. What you guys have going on is a big ass Ponzi scheme and guess who is papa Ponzi, Manwin, they own it all.

They pay you your scene rate and then pimp your ass and take their taxes in an endless circle of fucking the talent. The money they pay the talent goes right back into their own pocket.

Now that's pimpin 101! I understand why there will be no condoms, cause money makes the world go round. How do you maximize profit you steal it out of your employees pocket, it's like they are lowering your scene rate and the talent does not even know it. That is fucking brilliant, but I gotta call you on your bull shit Diana Duke and the FSC.

I may be HIV positive but my eyes still work very well. It's time to really keep the talent safe, strap up. Don't you know your not supposed to bite the hand that feeds you? The talent feeds all of you. You say you care so much but I ran the numbers.

30% of people are turned off by watching porn with condoms, kind of fuckin weird safe sex is a turn off but what ever. Is 30% really worth the health and safety of your workers? What I do know is porn has always been around and it's always gonna be around. It's simple microeconomics, porn will always be in demand but if the only thing you have to watch is porn with condoms then that's what you will watch.

If some one kills me then you all will know why lol cause I stood up for the talent without a voice. That will be the only way I'm going out though or old age, not HIV. All my positive family be strong and know that everything is ok and will be ok, don't ever let anyone take a single fuckin thing from you.

Good night everyone. This message has been approved by Rod Dailys alter ego Captain Positive. Stay up stay strong people knowledge is power.
