I know about those researches. However they say they have a chance to gain over Russia if they will use the power of ALL NATO countries joined together, and personally I have to agree on that. But this won't work only in case of strategic nuclear weapon will not be used. In case if it will, there will no winner - both sides (Russia and NATO countries) will be eliminated. That article few posts above clearly stated "conventional battlefield"... so nukes are off the table... besides they are off the table anyway, the moment anyone even suspects nuke is launched gloves come off and 1000s of nukes start flying completely fucking up both countries...

so given "conventional battlefield" warfare... Russia has no means at all of even attacking the US, how exactly would they even do it? the best they can do is send a few subs near the US, and maybe send a couple of cruise missiles and given no nukes are involved causing practically no damage...

on the other hand US can park aircraft carrier battle groups all around Russia and pound with 100s of missiles, aircraft, etc... US would end up losing those aircraft carriers but not without causing pretty decent damage to Russian military...

the attacks you mentioned are completely impractical, air attacks would stop as soon as the few air bases nearby get taken out... transporting tanks/troops over those 4km is pretty impractical too... it seems like it would be pretty much impossible to attack US through there...

as for taking out aircraft carriers, "easily" is a bit of a stretch, it's not like you press a button, missile is launched and 2 minutes later carrier is sunk... modern ships have numerous counter-measures, so hitting one is not as easy as one would think... plus multiple hits are likely needed to sink it... they would get sunk eventually, but I wouldn't call it "easily"...

but yea, all this is meaningless, nukes would probably be used sooner than later, so that's why both sides are doing their best to avoid any conflict...

It was never used for that and will never be. Just because it's a "potential" option (never ever been tested in the real life). Should I explain why nuke warheads can not be used in anti-aircraft missiles? Theoretically a tactical nuke can be delivered by anything. Including just a single human with a case.
