The only their mission is to finish the survivals. I believe I do not disclosure some secret or so, but I'll tell you one thing. If you'll get exposed to 10000
rad during the nucklear blast, you will die in a few hours (I gave a link to Wikipedia because I'm not sure you are learning this in the school like we do). Those guys will not. They have special chemicals that make them absolutely unaffected to the effects of radiation for 3 days (after that they will die of course) which is more than enough to accomplish their mission. Once again, that's just an example of the after-war operations.
