Food stamp usage continues to rise! Where are the shovel ready jobs?

Just think if we didn't have this social garbage, ie: tax the rich and give to the poor program, we would have saved all that money and let those 50+ million people starve to death. Yes, most prob had jobs before, yes they paid taxes before, yes I know the mass majority are positive on the gov balance, but hey... money saved people & reduction in gov size, bonus! /teaBagger

This is pure bullshit... I'm not sure about every state, but here you HAVE to be working at least 20 hrs/wk to qualify for food stamps. Only exceptions are when you are 6+ months pregnant or on soc. sec. or some other disability program. If you are over 21, out of school, and not working, they make you attend job prep classes 4+ hrs a day to recieve benefits... and EVEN THEN, you only recieve them for 3 months in a lifetime (that used to be each year).

So I just love it when people bitch about shit they know nothing about.

Which State?

Food stamps are fed controlled, and are monitored by the State, a single fed bank handles all the food stamp money. Every state has extended them, the fed forced it, it's not state money so they have no control over it. From what I understand it's all based on income, not a job... you can have income coming in from your parents, enough to cover bills, etc... but not enough to cover the entire food cost, so you get some help - no job required, as you have an income.

Yeah Arizona and Oklahoma thought that would work..... both were very wrong. You can hire a lot of illegals for the cost of one real American employee, and those illegals, do just as good if not better of a job, thus 4-5x the production, so reality is... less illegals means less work after the corp downsizes from the slowdown.

Basic labor or not, that's the jobs they do thus the jobs Americans would replace. The results of it works like a stimulus program, however it works more like a deferment than a stimulus, the money you put in is the money you take out.

Almost every single person on unemployment & food stamps due to the recession is net positive with the Gov and State... meaning the Gov/State owes them money, they don't take "our" money and give it to them.

That is after all, why all of us pay in to this.... young, old, new worker, lifetime worker, all of us.

Food stamps aren't quite insurance, but a lifeline for people, short-term or long term in a bad situation. Some are the working poor, some are recently divorced stay at home mothers who never worked outside the home.Some are multi-generation welfare families. Some of that, the parents taught their children no better, some is just bad luck, some is the oppression of whites against people of color.
Food stamps are also issued to any family, no matter how rich, if they are foster parents or adopt a child in need.
Read some of Jim Thompson's (Grifters) autobiographical books, his family went overnight in the depression from super rich to starving.
