What is your fitness routine?

I have been shamefully lazy since I moved to California four months ago. I am pissed at myself for gaining back 15 of the 90 pounds I lost. I suppose stuff happens with major life upheavals but yesterday I got fucked off enough with myself to go find the local gym and get back on track.

Today is day two workout. It feels good to be sweating again.
I am going back to my 1500 max calories and starting out with 45 cardio...plus I am riding my bike the 15 minutes to and from the gym. I figure after being lazy for four months that is a good way to get back into things.

What is your routine?

HIIT cardio(Tabata protocol) mixed with long form cardio + weight 2-3 times perweek.

Green smoothies help me get in shape also.

Tabata is the shit. I do it once every two weeks. I would do it weekly, but I alternate with my clinch conditioning routine.

I try to evenly distribute lifting the coffee cup from my left to my right hand in order to avoid any imbalance in my physique.

I run 2-3 miles every morning. I say "2-3" because I have been cutting off the last mile for the last week.

you should add more calories to the diet and add in resistance training as well. If you don't build a strong foundation (muscles) you will bounce back as soon as you start eating normally again. If you build muscle the weight may not come flying off as fast, but it definitely wont come back that fast either... Cardio is more effective if you do it in bursts. Instead of 45 minutes at a crawls pace do 15 minutes as hard as you can, if you don't have the gas for that yet go hard for 30 seconds at a time with a minute rest (still peddling, just slower) and aim for longer. This will speed up the metabolism and you will be burning calories all day, even in your sleep instead of just while you are on the machine.

I don't even diet anymore.. i just try to raise my protein levels higher than normal.

Been eating better, I've lost 25 pounds since San Fransico Summit. Hurt my back, but starting back up at the gym in a couple days.

Still can't believe how much water I'm drinking

I've been going to the gym 3 days a week, lifting heavy and then going home and eating tons of protein. Been about 3 months now, and so far so good.

I was running 5 miles each morning and lifting in the evenings 5 days a week. I was making a lot of progress until I broke my foot...

Now I'm healing and just sitting around. Haven't gained or lost any weight though.

Here's my "fit in 'is" routine.

Dont feel too badly because you're back on track now and there's no going backwards.

I have polycystic ovaries which makes losing weight really hard. Over the time that I lost my 90lbs, I found I simply had to go that low or it didn't happen.

Jump rope for 5 to 10 minute intervals 2 times a day (more if you can) and do some body weight exercises (choose 7 or 10) and do them one right after the other for at least 3 sets.

Do this 5 times a week if possible if not 3 times a week.

High protein, low carb diet and drink lots of water, cut sodas for life.

Cut rice, mash potatoes, pasta and change for a side salad with a bit of olive oil.

1 day week for one meal only eat what you want but try to keep it healthy but don't drink sodas as i said before, cut those for life.

I switch it up like a maniac. A mix of hatha/ashtanga, hot (moksha) yoga, zumba classes, jazz dance classes, hip hop classes, playing Dance Central/Zumba on my Kinect, cross fit, 30 day shred, pilates classes... Whatever I can get my paws on.

A couple of things to consider:

1. Changing your diet to something like paleo (typically low in carbs) instead of vegetarian. For someone dealing with PCOS related weight gain (insulin resistance) carbohydrate intake should be limited. Vegetarians tend to get a large portion of calories from carbohydrates, which is very hard on blood sugar levels and unable to be utilized by cells efficiently (resulting fat gain).

2. Eat more protein from whole food sources. Protein is an essential building block for all lean mass in the body, especially muscle. The development of muscle will also support fat loss. Don't be scared to begin resistance training (vs only cardio/aerobics).

3. Our body (hypothalamus) works to regulate our weight to what it feels is "optimal." If you're eating a lot of food, your metabolism will increase in order to avoid weight gain. On the flip side, if you're in a caloric deficit (dieting), your metabolism will slow in order to preserve weight. Keep an eye on your body temperature, if it is frequently lower than 98.6F (in the 97s for example), this is a good sign that your metabolism is impaired and should be investigated (thyroid, cortisol levels, etc).

Good luck

You are correct. When I am actually doing what works, I do it by eating slow burning carbs that regulates my insulin. It just so happens that it is easiest for me to do with a mainly vegetarian diet. Plus, I like veggie food better these days. I was getting my proteins through vegetarian friendly sources and not only was it working but I felt amazing.

I just got lazy. I moved in with people that eat crap and it was too easy to slip back. Which is why I have started doing all my own cooking, etc.

I use the pyramid technique I start with a light weight and do many reps, then increase the weight each set. Best to start out at 12ozs then 16ozs,22ozs, and finally 40ozs I get my cardio in when the bartender says last call

i would say the exact opposite of all this is the truth. Including genetics...

If you lose weight with 80% diet guess what happens when the diet stops? It's unrealistic to expect someone to eat perfectly ALL the time.. I have never known anyone to do this, even the most strict dieters i have known can't keep something like this going forever...

Exercise is KING.

My way is slower, it's tougher, its far more frustrating, but it builds a foundation that protects you from bouncing back.. If you stop training for any reason you wont gain 20 lbs back in a month no matter what you eat, because the muscles will be there and will still be working and will still be burning those calories for you. It takes a LONG time for muscles to break down, think about that.

Build an engine and it will keep you moving...

This is the truth.
