People with NO INSURANCE
Big controversy.
I have no insurance since I'm off my parents last year. Last night I got smashed in the fuckin eye and my fuckin eyebaall or something is bleeding. What do I do? I'm undecided on this government insurance shit but I think it sounds good for all the un insured mother fuckers like me right now.

Depends on how often you have a need for the insurance...if not often you can pay a low monthly fee with a high deductible. If you plan to use it often then a higher monthly fee offers a lower deductible.
The only reason I have health insurance is because I decided to add myself to the plan I got for my kids. Otherwise I don't use if often enough and always just paid the visit fee out of pocket. No idea what the dumbass president is trying to offer, but I don't believe in plans that are based on the tax dollars of hard working people.

Go to the hospital, they have to treat you.
You will get billed later for it, what you do with that bill is up to you. You could also try a free clinic, but since it's your EYE, I would be going to the hospital. It works for all the illegal Mexicans, it will work for you too. It just won't be cheap. |

That's the whole problem. The poor don't get any preemptive medical treatment.

![]() But go to the ER, get treated, get a bill in a week or two (sometimes less) be prepaired to get at LEAST a $500.00 bill though (depending on what they do to ya) I get socked with about a $400 bill every few months, I'm lucky though the local hospital DOES NOT send to collections and as long as I send um a few bucks each month they stay off my ass. Now in Petoskey is a whole diff story, my ex was over there for a weekend, got a whicked ear infection, she went to their ER, (got a painkiller and a script wrote) and they socked her with a $1,500 bill and GARNISHED her paycheck for the bill ![]() Really all depends on your hospital I guess. I still find it better to do it my way then to fork out the money for insurance (most won't cover my dental cause it's HARSH and pre-existing ![]() My alternative is the "walk-in clinic" where I gotta pay $150.00 upfront to get them to write the two scripts I need, THEN pay the $75.00 for the scripts, AND my teeth infection better not hit me after 6pm or I can't go to the walk-in lol Shitty thing, I just had to go to the ER on Monday, the pills have not fully kicked in yet so I've been in SERIOUS PAIN for the last few days ![]() -Loki-

And why is life expectancy so poor in the US? I imagine it's largely those who turned down. Alsp if they treated you for free then chased the bill a lot of people would not get insured, |

Life expectancy is right up with any other Country, I don't know why you think it's so poor. And hospitals bill you after you stay. If you gave them the wrong info, they couldn't bill you. Lots of people skip out on the bills, that's why hospitals like this rely on donations and your taxes.

I just started seeing a family doctor a few weeks ago. Went in talked to him for 10 minutes, got my script, paid $250 in cash.
He wants to do an EKG on my next visit.. wonder what that is going to cost. |

Get your own insurance, it's not that expensive usually if you shop around and actually do some work.

Since your in Michigan, pick up Blue Cross / Blue Shield. I pay $442 per month for my entire family and they pay 70%, I pay 30% of my medical bills and perscriptions. I'm sure for a single guy, it can't be too pricey.

Besides no has said people would get FREE insurance. I think the haters and dipshits don't do much research. For example our state has state health insurance for ALL children. That doesn't mean that parents get FREE health insurance for their kids. At a minimum there are co-pays. Also since 90% of our state income is derived from sales taxes, parents are technically paying for the insurance since nearly everything you buy including food is subject to sales tax. |

Anyways, I was in same boat, was under my fathers insurance for quite some time, excellent insurance, but when I became of age I had to look for new insurance. I was fortunate enough to pay a additional amount to his insurance plan (very reasonable) and stay on with them. I would ask your father to inquire about you continuing to use the insurance under his name as this will save you TONS of money. Goodluck and get that eye checked out asap, even if you have to go to a free clinic... |

I didn't notice you were in michigan, that makes my advice even more accurate. BCBSM is insurer of last resort meaning they have to take you no matter what and they have a bunch of plans that should fit your needs. You might get cheaper rates with another provider if you dont' have pre-existing conditions so do your homework. Either way if you are making a living you can afford some type of insurance in michigan no doubt.

Go to the ER; they have to treat you.
Expect the bill to be at least $1,300 for every 2 1/2 minutes somebody spends talking to you. Pay that bill off at $5 per month, always making faithful payments, and it will never show up on your credit report as bad debt. Here is what I don't get... you have a join date of 2002, but you just got off your parents insurance. I thought you cannot be on parents insurance past 21 or 22 or something? Were you 12 when you joined GFY or did you acquire a seasoned nick? |

DOn't bother arguing with Paul. He's not interested in any facts, it's all about emotion with him.
Fortunately, he's going to live almost 2 years less in his beloved Czech republic than he would in the good old USA. Also, the country that his friend "couldn't get treated in" has the highest treatment rates for the specific cancer his friend had. Of course in Paul's mind the UK has a 100% treatment rate, because of his sample size of 1. You and I can all understand this simple math but it's way beyond Paul.

I think the life expectancy thing is really about how we take care of ourselves.. if most of the population is obese do you really think we will have the highest life expectancy?

I didn't do that or go to the doc. I'm all good now. If people didn't go to the ER and get MRI's and whatever else every time they got a little bruise more people might be able to afford insurance

Last year at this time I had to go to the hospital because of an injury I received in Iraq in 2004, I spent 11 days and when I got the bill I almost had to go back..$77,000 I just took the bill to the VA and it was paid. I hear people complain about the care at the VA but here in Vegas I have no issues with them. I see my doc's every 3 months and I get great care. Allot of times I have to go to NON VA docs for treatment and it's not problem. If the obama plan is like the VA coverage than with some tweaking it would be ok.... Just my 2 cents

I made over 300k last year, yet was recently denied a $650 a month health insurance policy for the following reasons:
1) I visited a hospital in the past year: I got a small puncture wound in my hand from a household accident, but wanted to make sure it wasn't infected, so I went to an Emergency Room. Result: No infection - everything was fine. I've never spent a night in a hospital once in my life, and haven't been seriously sick or injured in over 15 years (I once had routine surgery for Plantar Fasciitis - a common athletic injury - other than that no other serious hospitalization/treatment). 2) I have a pre-existing condition: I have Psoriasis, a common, non-fatal and treatable skin disorder. 3) I drink alcohol socially: I guess that I should have lied about that. 4) I'm overweight for my height: And yet I play competitive league tennis, and have won numerous tournaments. ----- Health Insurance should be guaranteed to all...especially those willing to pay for it. The Obama plan is not free insurance for all, it is coverage for all. ![]() The measure of a society is not about how it treats it's wealthiest and most privileged (who are very well taken care of), but rather how it treats the honest working class people, and those at the bottom of the economic spectrum. I am a small business person. All of the above conditions were the same when my previous big business employers covered me (along with my contributions and deductibles). Nothing has changed except that I am now self-employed. Did anyone actually examine me, or care to know about me as an individual? No! The bean counters looked at their set of actuarial (accounting) tables, and made me a non-person, and therefore denied me coverage. So what happens to me if I actually do become ill? HINT: The taxpayers will pay for it. Again, I am willing to pay far more than people that work for large corporations and the government do, who may be much higher risks to the insurance companies than I am. Yet I am taxed to help bailout the insurance companies that refuse to cover me, and who made bad investments, and yet they deny me the ability to pay them for my basic coverage?!? ![]() Go figure... ![]() ADG |

You asked "What do I do?" Well, when I was 27 I would have went to the doctor and paid for it. Just like my dad did, just like my grandfather did when he was young, just like his father and on and on back through history. I do have insurance now. But I'm going to be 48 years old in Nov. I never had any health insurance until I was 41 years old. It's a calculated risk...but a pretty damn good one. The vast majority of young folks do not need health insurance. It's just a waste of your money and a good way for insurance companies to get rich. Hell, I never knew anybody in their 20's who had their own health insurance when I was your age. Of course now employers are basically forced by the govt. to hand out health care. And as I understand the new healthcare plan being debated....EVERYONE will be forced to buy health insurance. No matter what your age. Yeah, it'll be nice for the small percentage of younger people who may have a catastrophic car accident or disease. But for the vast majority it's just gonna be a bit of a money grab. I have to say that IF they are gonna socialize medicine, I'd be more in favor of the "Single Payer" (the govt.) system. This new plan just seems to be another way to make more money for the medical industry and insurance companies to me. |

I was covered by my parents premium or wtf ever u wanna call it plan most of my life. I went to the doc maybe 5 times in those 26 years besides some kid shit. The same doc now see's me to give me some meds I need every few months. He charges me only $35/visit which is less than half what the regular payment are billed at. Young people don't need insurance for much besides meds. On rare occasion kids might need car accident insurance if anything. I'm drunk, I'll continue on with this convoe next time if this thread continues. Bed time for Brett.
