The only reason I have health insurance is because I decided to add myself to the plan I got for my kids. Otherwise I don't use if often enough and always just paid the visit fee out of pocket.

This... besides the dumbass president ^_^ but I can't lie, I have been feeling the same about him for the past month or so...
Anyways, I was in same boat, was under my fathers insurance for quite some time, excellent insurance, but when I became of age I had to look for new insurance. I was fortunate enough to pay a additional amount to his insurance plan (very reasonable) and stay on with them.
I would ask your father to inquire about you continuing to use the insurance under his name as this will save you TONS of money.
Goodluck and get that eye checked out asap, even if you have to go to a free clinic...
