The site is definitely clean, however, the Google PR0, which is probably a penalty, will hurt the value.

frankfortuna - the site's listed in google, and some other search engines currently, it's just that without any metatags to speak of and the way we have some things positioned on the page (not the best they could be for search engine positioning), my results (search for 'rhinothumbs' on google and you'll see) aren't really all that worth while (note the description when my search result is returned on google, it's from the top line ad rotator at the top of all the pages). correct me if i'm wrong, but i dont see this really as a negative as much as a positive whereas the site is already doing as well as it's doing without any help from search engine traffic, meaning anyone with good search engine optimizing skills could very easily have a whole new stream of traffic from search engines, in not all that much time.
bawdy - all of the images on the site are user submitted, we don't have 100,000 images as the front page of rhinothumbs says just yet, we have close to 10,000 however and we are slowly building up the collection as more and more users submit content. if any pictures violate copyright issues we ask that they're reported to us and we promptly remove them however we have yet to have any cases of that, i ran a similar type of system in the past (a hot or not style voting site) in which a lot of the users did submit pictures with copyrights on them and url's and the images would be reported and promptly removed. we make sure there are no visible copyrights or url's on any of the rhinothumb pictures that our users submit. and ironically i've found, the better 90% of our user's all date carmen electra and drive mclaren f1's thanks guys... If you install the Google tool bar and check out your page rank, your status is 0/10, which is usually a penalty. How long has it been listed in Google?
I went through the system and even labored through a survey. Nice work overall. |

interesting, i didnt know that, i'd say it's been on google probably about a week or so. i also dont know anything about 'penalties' so please let me know what would cause one of those, i'd be really surprised if that's the case, other projects we've done in the past always end up doing pretty excellent on google. i do thank you though for pointing that out to me and please let me know as i'm a bit curious about that.
thanks... [email protected] |

Interesting. If it was just listed, then perhaps the toolbar measurement is incorrect. Typically sites that are indexed between updates maintain a gray PR bar until their page rank is recognized. The next update is due to start in a week or less according to my calendar.
I would be curious to know which site Google crawled to discover it, do you have an idea? |

yes, i believe it originally discovered the site through ballericons.com as you'll notice the link on one of the returned search result is to http://www.rhinothumbs.com?var=baller which is the link code used on that site to link to rhinothumbs, that was the first one to make google. why is pageranking somehow affiliated with the site they find your site though or sites linking to you (ie if the site they found it though has a bad reputation, etc)?
interesting, thanks |

The site you mentioned seems clean and has a PR4, so the PR0 you are experiencing is most likely not a penalty. After the next update, if this is the only site linked to you, you will probably inherit a PR3 from it.
Your comments about page ranking and influence are generally correct. The exception being if a "bad neighborhood" links to you, you have little to worry about unless you provide a reciprocal link to the "bad neighborhood". |

It seems you have little to worry about. If this were an established site, I would say otherwise. Keep in mind that a PR0 is not always a penalty, but in the case of more established sites it usually is.

Hey, I'd also like to know if you have licenses for all those images, if not, you're allowing yourself in some big shit. I thought of started a similar site myself, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of lawsuits.
Also, I've seen similar sites as yours, though they were either private, or shut down... Cheers, Matt |

thanks for the note, i've yet to have any trouble with user submitted content, i've dealt with it a lot in the past and havent had any trouble. ideally, which i think the buyer would want to do anyways would be to use the system and the site traffic and revenue streams to promote all their own content, well adult content, as that's what the user's are screaming for, that's what i'd like to see happen...
thanks nysus... |

That's still not the point.. You're making money off of other people's content - user submitted or not, if you don't have the licenses or permission to use it, it's going to be bad news. And just because no one has come after the site yet, they can come after it well after you've removed any unlicensed content.. Just be careful......
Cheers, Matt |

thanks again for the comment, in your opinion you don't think a well written TOS and bad image reporting system does anything to protect against that (would consumptionjunction be an example)? we've started doing all our own content with our own models, we've bought a great deal of content as well, both non-nude and adult, but we're just debating whether we want to use rhinothumbs or a new site altogether and sell off rhino.
thnx... |
