Why do so many Americans have weapons?
 

And I am not talking about gangsters, Harlem people, Queens people, Latino neighbors like the one from Training Day with Denzel Washington, etc... :1orglaugh

I am talking about white USA families or guys who have weapons in their cars or in their houses. (Of course, I don't include Militars or cops)

Anyway, why do they have so many guns there? I heard something like 1 gun every 3 families somewhere. It's insane! In other normal countries you maybe have 1 gun every 20 families..

Also, is it true that in some banks they give you a weapon if you open a bank account? WTF?

Is "having a gun" part of the American Culture? (Like McDonalds or Hollywood).

Um the bank thing is well nevermind, yes they do assuming if a roll of quarters count as a weapon.

We have weapons because we can. We have them for protection, and we have them for hunting.

The gangs and other groups would much rather us not have weapons. Specially the gangs and criminals.

Any other arguments will just be opinions and often made of facts.

I heard that in Switzerland that every household has a gun, but there is virtually no crime at all, & no gun related violence

Some people buy guns because they enjoy shooting them. Its fun. Its a stress reliever.

That doesn't mean they march around the streets with a gun on their hip.

I was talking to a guy from Australia once. He came to the States on a vacation. He was pretty disappointed when he realized everyone isn't walking around with a gun in their back pocket.

Because there are so many people in desperate need of being shot to death.

The population of Switzerland is around 6 mill and there are estimated to be around 2 mill weapons in public hands spacedog.

Part of that stems from centuries of having an odd form of national defence - and where all males of military age are given training in the use of firearms and expected to keep an M-57 and 24 rounds at home etc.

Sure.. you are correct - the crime rate from firearms offenses is too low to even consider keeping records and gun control is simply not an issue.

Why not have guns? Some people use them for hunting, some like to go to the shooting range, some people like to have them as protection, etc. Why do so many people in other countries care about what we do some much in the states?

90% of the people in my state have guns because they are hunters...

That's not true..many weapons are smuggled in the country and you can get them easily..It was also almost 100 here today as well

I know a lot of people who literally can buy and have a weapon, and they don't have one. Here and in other countries. (except the extraordinary case of united states of northamerica).

Other countries also have similar uses of guns - used for hunting and sports activity. Rarely is there any need to have them for personal protection.

The reason for this thread and presumably why the question was asked - is that the US has a gun culture which is unusual in any other civilized countries.

Example.. who needs sniper rifles with armor piercing rounds?? To shoot rabbits or is it a personality deficiency?

I mean really, what prolonged period of history has ever seen peace?

Guns are part of our country's heritage, and even enshrined in the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution.
