EU to put a 100hp limit on motorcycles?
only in America!
?A 100bhp limit is back on the EU agenda as part of a package of fresh controls which includes mandatory ABS.? http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/Ne...?&R=EPI-122602 |

i have been driving many years, but never a bike with ABS. why is it so bad? i had many close accidents due to a blocking rear wheel - especially on wet roads

How come ABS sucks ? Between you and me, 100hp is enough.

none of my scoots have more than 100 hp. the idea to limit bikes at 100 whilst cars can go beyond the sun with factory hp seems odd to me. i mean who needs 1000hp in a car? or 600? that's huge power.
the debate re: ABS on motorcycles is a big one. statistics do show a lower fatality rate amongst riders on bikes with abs. traction control, another story, i've ridden with it and LOVE it! |

If you ever owned a bike you should know you can stop instantly. That is why they have front brakes. 80% of braking on a car is in the front. I use my front brakes all the time on my bikes, especially in corners.
I've been riding for over 30 years, and yes, I'm 40. My newest bike has ABS and it sucks. If you need to stop right away, the bike won't let you. Although I ride my bikes as if I am riding my dirtbikes, but they are bikes and need to stop on a dime. If you are one to ride in the rain, you should know how slippery the roads get. I used to love burning out through all gears in the rain, that is why I won't ride the ABS bike in the rain. It kills half the fun.

I remember in the 80s when they wanted to bring in type approval laws for bikes. I went on a mass motorcyle demonstration organised by the MAG (motorcycle action group) against it. Boy was that fun
100bhp aint to bad to be honest |

i never got to ride dirtbikes when i was a kid, the folks said no dice. most my riding buddies grew up on dirt bikes, they can do more *stuff* than i can, wheelies, crazy burnouts, etc. i'd like to be able to do that sort of thing on occasion but it's not in the cards, i like to keep both wheels on the ground and with the price of tires i tend to not do burnouts. all good fun though! |

When I was 18 my dad thought he got me off bikes when he reminded me that I could be let go for any reason [within the first 90 days] from my new job, so he suggested I stop riding at least until my 90 days was up. He got his wish. I stopped riding dirt bikes and got a 1942 "4-5" almost immediately after the 90 days passed. ![]() |

As a safety major, ABS on bikes is a good thing, but it takes most of the real pleasure of riding a bike.
Check out this video... now that's what is all about.

ABS on bikes is amazing. I have had two bikes with ABS and would not buy another road bike without it.
When a car stops in front of you when you are not expecting it in heavy traffic on a wet slippery road, ABS saves you from going down due to too much sudden application of front brake. Those that say they ride well enough to not need it are just fooling themselves. As to claims it effects the "feel" of the brakes - that's BS too. ![]()

My current bike has ABS only on the front, I think it's good, being in thailand its got me out of a few major spills in just a few months cos of all the morons. I used to race superbikes in the UK due to riding too fast on the roads, a 100hp limit would simply suck for road riding, it aint all that powerful if you are used to blades, r1s, gixers and so on
AND there would be NO MARKET for 1000cc bikes, as 600s would be pushing the limit so it'll never happen. |

My last 3 bikes, including my current one, have had ABS. It has worked great on all three.
If it saves your ass just one time then its worth having. |

i dont see the fun with motorcycles. I have an aprilia rs125 but i never ride it. I'm scared to go over 70kph and when i turn the thing i constantly have the feeling like it will keep going straight since you can turn the wheel a whooping 10 degrees maybe. Maybe its just because poland's roads are death traps

If I ever bought a bike I would be dead within the year. Driving a car I have the tendency to feel like I am wasting time if I'm not nearly on the ass of the car in front of me trying to get around/past them, on a bike I would probably gun it when the traffic clears just to get to the next hold up, eventually someone would turn in front of me or something and I'd be history.

Man this is bullshit. You have to use both front and back brake on a bike (not in same way but you have to use them both).
Bike without ABS is for skilled riders. I guess stats are showing that 99% aren't skilled and it's much better to require ABS.

bikes these days have much better brakes, tires and suspension than ever.
now, when i'm on my sportbike up on angeles crest or other twisties, if i come into a turn too hot, i can trail brake through the turn and not upset the bike. that's not really a good idea on an older bike. but even with top-notch bikes, applying too much front brake in this same situation and the bike will stand up to some degree due to the suspension. |
