Has anyone had Lymphoma, B-Cell or known anyone?
Hey I was just told yesterday that I have Lymphoma, B-Cell cancer. Just wondering with all the webmasters around here if anyone has had this or have it or know anyone with it? The survival rate don't look promising 5 years??? I have to go have surgery Wed the 10th they are going to cut one of the nod's and dissect it more to find the best treatment and put a tube into my chest! Yuck
It still sinking in I guess My eyes are killing me from reading up on it via webmd and other sites. Kind of freaky! So just wanted to know how others that have it had it and are dealing with this?

My dad beat NHL in the 2000. He made it almost 7 years, then ended up with lung / brain cancer. Killed him on September 7th, 2007.

My exwife had lymphoma T-cells cancer, she survived barely.
It's a really hard treatment for your body, not sure about the difference between B and T cells though but chemotherapy is pretty bad :-( I would advise that you tell your friends and family about what's going to happen and that you are going to need their help most likely, people that is nit sure what you are going through is more likely to stay away because they are afraid of doing something wrong. Good luck!

Wow Due and Rich Thanks gives me hope, family and friends know now, but as I said don't think it has really set it. The whole cancer word is scary as hell. It does how ever look like I have stage 1 worse case is early stage 2 the doc said but they wont know till after the surgery! I have 3 things in my life that I know I will get through it and the first and most important are my two sons. Then my mom and then my family and friends!
so reason I posted here asking for anyone that had it or known someone that had it because I'm going in fucking sane reading shit on line about it.. Hell I use to be a paramedic/firefighter but most of the words they use goes way over my head! Got a killer headache right now prolly from reading and the stress! I knew something was real wrong when the doctors office called Wed said the Doctor wanted to see me asap.. YUCK!@#!$ The things that went through my mind before knowing and now after is scary. Thanks guys.

I wouldn't go reading up on it much it will just scare you, then again you are asking on gfy so you must have tough skin.
I had a friend die of it recently so i will tell you what i know. If they catch it early alot of the time they can send it into remission with chemo or other drugs, it will often come back years later, some people have several bouts. Look dont want to scare you so if so don't read further. My friend was normal guy, normal health, had a lump on neck ( lymph node ), doctor said it was nothing, went back , said it was nothing again , went for a second opinion they checked for lymphoma and sure enough it was. Cancer spread quick, within a month. 2 months he was bed-riden , 4 months he was gone. The lymphoma will often spread through the lymph system to all your organs. Nobody wants to die and least of all know the timetable. Focus on staying happy and keeping your family informed and aware of how you feel. If it progresses badly you will get sicker and sicker until eventually they put you on morphine , once they do you wont be able to think correctly or tell your loved ones anything meaningfull, so do that part now. Just out of curiosity , were you getting treated for hepititas before this happened ?

I'm very sorry to hear that. My suggestion is to also look into natural medicine treatments.

Thanks BD but glad I went and hope it's early enough so I can at least live 8 more years which my 10 year old would be 18 and my 14 will be 24 they at least will have a better chance of living a normal life if they stay with me and not with their mother or my family! I hope to be around that long at least! *shrugs*

My girlfriends brother-in-law just passed away on 2-22-10 from Hodgkin's lymphoma but I am not sure how that compares to your specific type. He was diagnosed about 3 years ago and they tried a number of treatments which seemed to help for a while until last August it came back and he entered the VCU Massey Cancer Center in Richmond for a bone marrow transplant they claim his cancer was completely taken care of but while his immune system was recovering his kidneys failed and soon a bunch of other organs were affected by the time the kidneys recovered. He died cancer free they claim and amazingly was strong enough to never need any life support just heavy pain meds and saline in the end. He was a very strong man who had worked hard all his life so this may not be the norm but he was barely into his 40's and was in the same situation as you as far as two young kids 7 and 10.
I wish you so much good luck with your recovery and hope this doesn't taint your willingness to fight and to even further your research efforts. I live on almost the other side of Virginia from you but if you do have any extended hospital stays come up be sure to let us know if you want some visitors to help keep your spirits up!

I know a lady who is perfectly healthy and fine who had it several years ago ( 7-8 ) , so there is certainly hope. But if it goes downhill fast make sure you put your family top priority now, remember that if you do get sick sick , you will be medicated and not thinking clearly. Write some letters now please just in case.

I had a lymphoma scare - a bunch of clavicle nodes and neck nodes were/are swollen.
It was incredibly stressful waiting for the biopsy report - which came back negative. But is still stressful, as the detection failure rate of fine needle biopsy is still quite high. During my research, I found a bunch of lymphoma support forums... (forums.lymphoma.com) that were handy. Hope you beat it! |

That's unknown. My Fathers side of the family all die from cancer between 50 and 60. Myself, and my 2 kids are the last living from my fathers side. They think that we just have a genetic flaw that causes cancer in us.

Good organization for folks with cancer is Planet Cancer. They offer support and information. Livestrong is also a good place for support.

I wish you luck. Please be aggressive with your doctors in perusing all avenues you want to explore.
That's what killed my grandmother. Consider yourself lucky they found it. They spent nearly a year running pointless tests and telling my grandmother that it was "just her stomach" before finally diagnosing her less than 2 weeks before her death. By then there was just nothing they could do.

![]() I know it has to be terrifying, especially if you have young children that you are raising. Just try to stay focused on the positive, and enjoy things that make you laugh. Laughter certainly won't hurt, and it may even help.

My father was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma in 1993. They took quite a long time to find it out and he was very ill by the time the diagnosis came through.
He had an operation and then intensive chemo. The chemo was bad but it worked (knock on wood). He is still alive today. Not the strongest of men as he never put back all the weight and muscle degeneration after the chemo. (He's a coeliac, which doesn't help and coeliac syndrome is suspected to be related to non-hodgkins lymphoma sometimes). I worry every time I see him that it'll come back, but it's been 17 years now, so... Anyway, good luck man. The chemo is hard, but it does beat it in many cases. |

But the reason I went to the doc's was I laid down a different way then normal and my hand for some reason went to my clavicle area on my left side and found a lump about the size of a golf ball and a baby one long story short it scared me enough that Monday I called for an apt and before I got there I found another one then the doc found another one four in total in the same place! Thank god he ran test and made an apt for the specialist

I know someone with NHL. He's been a real prick the last few years.
Anyway, I hope you don't fall into that trap. Do anything you can to be thankful and positive. It will payoff for you.
