How do you fix your sleeping patterns?

My sleeping patterns are just fucked lately. It's 7:10 AM right now and I've been up since 3PM. Yesterday I went to bed @ 8:30 AM and woke up 3ish. I'm not tired, but hate sleeping through the day. I've been grinding poker like crazy lately which keeps me busy and occupied and I miss track of time. I need to fix this I'd rather be up during the day and sleeping @ night....

Whats the best way to get myself back to a 10AM wake up, in bed by 2-3AM schedule?
How do you guys fix your fucked up sleeping schedules.

i have the same problem. only thing i can think of is to force yourself to wake up at 10am no matter how little sleep you get. then you will go to bed early. also, exercise can make you sleep better.

Start exercising at a certain time. It will help maintain a schedule. Either that or embrace it. I've worked a non conventional schedule for the last 10 years. It only matters if there are things you HAVE to get done.

I used to fully embrace it when I was younger, but its getting harder and harder the closer I get to 30.

Tylenol PM an hour or two before you want to go to bed. Try it for a few days at most. Just don't continue it for a long period because you can become dependent

Lemme try to stay awake to give my tips.

To reset it is important to stay awake a full 24 hours until your normal bedtime. When 11pm or whatever rolls around, go take a hot shower. Get all ready for bed and go crash in bed, but set your alarm for 7am or 8am. No TV, no sugar drinks, etc. Turn everything off at bedtime and hit the sack. (no laptops etc).
When alarm goes off (PS get a good alarm not a shreaking one). Wake yourself up, drink some applejuice or tea. Hit another shower and get dressed for the day. Work through the day but cut off sugar drinks and caffeine by 7pm. Near bedtime again shower and go to your quiet room and again lay there until you sleep. If needed use a book, just no electronic stimulations.

that is the only way to fix it - if you're waking up at 2 pm you need force yourself to stay awake until 11 pm the next day - that's how I get back to normal but slowly i will drift back to staying up later and later, cuz i like the small hours of the morning it's peaceful and quiet, it's a luxury that people in this biz who work for themselves have but it's not healthy and definitely not normal.

I've had this problem my whole life. If you think its something more than habits you should go to a sleep clinic. I found out recently that I have off the charts apnea like, 40 times a min, up to 20 secs or more at a time.

I've embraced it but it has my life hell. I am trying to start a family with my g/f and being a 'night hawk' causes a lot of problems, logistically.

Can't wait to get my cpap or whatever machine. Good sleep here I come!

I prefer to work noon to 9pm, but sometimes my schedule just get so absurdly jacked up. The worst is when I end up sleeping in two shifts during the course of the day. The best thing about this business is that I can still work a full work week, on weeks where my schedule is in free fall.

I've tried the sleep clinic thing and everything they suggest and none of it really works terribly well for me.

Fast 20-25min naps when tired usually fix any sleep lag right up for me. The trick is to actually wake up while still in REM before your brain is off to deep sleep. I say play with the 15-25min range and find your sweet spot.

Brainwave (Brainsync, Holosync, etc) tracks are also great for improving sleep quality which makes you need less quantity.

Finally, caffeine is your enemy *ducks as red bull addicts throw cans* . No really. it totally fucks with sleep timing. If you want an energy boost, get some Yerba Mate tea. good energy, no shakes, and once done its job it gets our of your system fast unlike caffeine.

same here, although I wake up at 12:30 1 PM. In vacations I can get to a normal hours routine, and the very same day I get back home.... I go to bed at 5 or 6 AM! It drives me crazy and believe me I've tried everything. I exercise, I've tried herbal pills, chemical pills, a little alcohol before bed... and always the same, no matter what. I can gain 1-2 hours for a few days or couple weeks but always end up with the same screwed sleep times

Good question. As far as I can tell some people ate just born night-crawlers. I know I tried every trick I knew to no avail: no coffee-check, exercise-check, timely meals-check, calming tea-check, forcing a certain sleep schedule-check. The result: still up all night. So I made the logical move and got myself a night-crawler lover

My problem isn't really when I go to sleep, but how fucking deep I sleep. My woman sits in the living room and she can yell for me for an hour before I even hear her, then its a half hour process to come out of this near-dead sleep. It doesn't matter how warm or cold it is either, its like my body temp drops to like 95 or 94, too. I freeze.

I don't normally eat until 7-9PM and I'll finally head towards bed anywhere form 3-6AM then sleep till 10AM-1PM. I can also bang out a 36 hour day, for example this:

Wake up Monday 10AM, get tired by Tuesday at 8AM, get a second wind. Round 5PM Tuesday get very tired and plan to go to bed around 8PM or 10PM, but end up staying up till 3AM or 4AM Wednesday morning anyways.

No fucking win situation here.

I have exactly the same problem.

Here's what works:
  • Get up at the same time each day, say 8am.
  • Don't drink coffee or tea after a certain time, say 6 pm.
  • Go to bed at the same time each day, say midnight.
  • Get away from the computer at least a full hour before you plan to go to bed at night.
  • Every morning when you get up, take a walk outside for ~30 minutes. You need the sunlight to let your body know it's time to be awake.
  • Eat at regular times.
  • Make sure you get enough exercise every day, preferably fairly early in the day.

Essentially, you want to rebuild your biological clock.

Of course, without external influences (like a 9-5 job) it requires a hell of a lot of willpower, something that very few people have.

had the same problem when I was single and woking at home. I'm married now and have a small office outside the home. I have to get up 6:30am Mon-Fri, drive my wife to her work then I go to my office. It's like 9-5 job but stress is lower than typical ones. eventually my productivity has been increased and it fixed my sleeping problem.

otherwise, you need to rebuild your biological clock. follow Libertine's advice.

Maybe try going to sleep at like 11pm and not getting up, even if you're not tired. Eventually you'll fall asleep and be on some kind of normal schedule

I'm in the same pattern.. I've been waking up after only a few hours sleep for the last 3 days. Its 4:30am, i've been up an hour. Yesterday I was up from 1am to 4am.

I'll be fine in a day or two, not worried about it, just a bad cycle.

Libertine's advice is good.

I got into going to sleep at 7am and waking up 2pm and I was missing everything!! Stores close here around 5pm so by the time I do some work, get showered... I don't have time to go anywhere so last night I went to bed at 11pm & just didn't get up. Actually slept through until 10.30 so I'm kind of back on track! xx

with medication you could fix that problem... I heard (valium/diazepam). But wouldn't really recommend to take them. You can become easily addicted to it .
