Very inspiring and the man did a fantastic job. I am not a democrat or republican and I watched this totally unbiased. Some things im democratic about and something im republican about. I have to say that I lost so much respect for the republican party with there "LIAR" comments and childish antics and disrespect towards the man who is in charge of our nation. This is the reason why America will never go anywhere to solving any economic issues. Democrats thoughout history cut defacits(look it up from a non republican blog or right winged site) and republicans raise them right back up. Americans are the only ones hurting and its a joke that both parties cant come to a common ground because they both want there own ways. Our kids are the ones suffering the most future wise and I do not condone any of these disrespectful antics and threats for someone who is presending what he believes to be his best ideas. So sad that americans are so greedy that they would rather keep the economy the way it is or worse to save money in there pockets. I feel shitty to be a american right now.

My 2 Cents! What are your thoughts.

He addressed about every issue that my friends bring up. Most likely they didn't watch it though... they will continue to get their info from Rush or other talk radio spinsters.

Well hes right in the sense that if you start a NEW and REFORMED program that is not already in place, everything that is in place now will be screwed. Your health care and plan now will be voided or worse. Why not build on what we have then knock it it down and re do it the way 1 party wants. This has always been the republicans problem. I watched the speech. He said he was going to use the "waste" from medicare to help fund the new plan. So he is expecting us to believe that a government run plan is creating so much waste we can fund a new plan that will cover MORE people without creating more waste without effecting peoples coverage. My point is that neither party can EVER admit when one or the other has something valuable for this country. Its always a bickering fight which either one wants there own side. Actually I think he said waste from medicare and a "tax or fee" charged to existing plans will pay for it. He kind of brushed over it, but he did mentioned that there would be some kind of fee that would be put on all insurance plans that would go towards paying for it.

but I agree with your original statement that it seems a little far-fetched that they will be so diligent and scrubbing out the waste from medicare that they will be able to fund this new program and somehow magically it will not have any waste.

I guess if they end up passing just some laws and reforms the cost of the new plan can be pretty small, but if they add in the public option which it sounds like they are hellbent on doing then the cost could go up pretty quickly.

Honestly, how do u or any american know that? There are so many hidden fees we pay for our health care plans where does that money really go? We americans dont know but the insurance companies do and i guarantee its not to better anyones plans. That alone is common sense and that alone has be interested in someone who calls these companies out. At this rate, we will never see social security or medicare and our kids have no chance.

I think you are right with the fee. Which is an indirect tax on the citizens. But if you add a tax or fee do more people will move to the public option because of cost. It is just a way to make everyone move to the public option which will be riddled with fraud and waste.

You gotta understand that you cannot go into depth within an hour speech nor can you explain all the details to americans in that speech. When you go to get health insurance, they dont in "detail" tell you everything about it. They give you the main details you need to know to choose your plan. This is to save time and people only care about the main points. obviously he had so much to cover in so little time but i still think he did a great job presenting it in a well thought out and respectful way.

no, reality is that medicare/medicaid is bankrupt and national healthcare is the only thing that can save it..

like it or not, we can either choose to take care of our elderly and poor sick or we can just let them die..

i am all for letting them die like when the eskimos take their old out for a "one way" walk...

There was nothing about medicare savings paying for everything.

His main plan will not be paid for with anything as it doesn't need to be paid for. It's just a grouping of everybody who is on individual plans or unable to get in a group to now be part of a larger group. All still under private insurance. No government run plans.

Only 5% will actually need a fully funded system according to the plan that was laid out.

Theres my point. We dont know where our taxes go nor do we know where all the hidden fees go when we pay our insurance monthly. Especially when they raise our premiums which mine just did out of no where and I barely go to the doctors. As far as an insurance option goes, I don't care if it's a public option, or somehow getting premiums to reasonable levels. For 17 years as a self employed person I always had to self pay for my family's health plan. Last year we had to drop it altogether when the premiums hit $2,000 PER MONTH. When trying to switch to another plan that was cheaper, I am rejected time and again because I have a pre-existing condition of Type 2 diabetes. So even if I could afford a plan, I'm now uninsurable. When I had a conversation with some of my republican friends, they basically said "Quit griping and get a job". I said, man, I have had a job for 17 years running my own company so I'm supposed to just shut all of that down to become an employee just for an insurance plan? From my point of view, the health insurance options in this country are mainly geared for people that are not self employed and do not have pre-existing conditions. I guy like me needs another option to where I can get coverage without being turned down AND that's not freakin' $2,000/month. I don't care how they do it, just DO IT.

Im glad you took the time to talka bout this issue kmd. I was denied by 5 out of 6 insurance company because I have "MVP-mitral valve prolapse" heart condition which is common they say. Point is this is so wrong when I can afford insurance and need it. Also your republican friends response is exactly how id expect that party to respond. Look, what are self employed people suppose to do? Drop making a better living to go and make a less incomed living working a job that provides there health insurance after 90 days or probation? I dont think so. options are def what we need and fast.

And why are we there in the first place? Who put us there? You cant just have a party that started this, who went in and took out the president, so called attempted to produce a gov(probably using this word wrong for this) type of life for them which they have never had, and just leave it in the way it is just because a new president is now in office. But if you read up about it, they have called home over 200k troops since obama's been in office. So if august was the bloodiest, this maybe why.

He said he was going to use the "waste" from medicare to help fund the new plan. So he is expecting us to believe that a government run plan is creating so much waste we can fund a new plan that will cover MORE people without creating more waste without effecting peoples coverage. His main plan will not be paid for with anything as it doesn't need to be paid for. It's just a grouping of everybody who is on individual plans or unable to get in a group to now be part of a larger group. All still under private insurance. No government run plans. For 17 years as a self employed person I always had to self pay for my family's health plan. Last year we had to drop it altogether when the premiums hit $2,000 PER MONTH. When trying to switch to another plan that was cheaper, I am rejected time and again because I have a pre-existing condition of Type 2 diabetes. So even if I could afford a plan, I'm now uninsurable. When I had a conversation with some of my republican friends, they basically said "Quit griping and get a job". I said, man, I have had a job for 17 years running my own company so I'm supposed to just shut all of that down to become an employee just for an insurance plan? From my point of view, the health insurance options in this country are mainly geared for people that are not self employed and do not have pre-existing conditions. I guy like me needs another option to where I can get coverage without being turned down AND that's not freakin' $2,000/month.
