As far as an insurance option goes, I don't care if it's a public option, or somehow getting premiums to reasonable levels. For 17 years as a self employed person I always had to self pay for my family's health plan. Last year we had to drop it altogether when the premiums hit $2,000 PER MONTH. When trying to switch to another plan that was cheaper, I am rejected time and again because I have a pre-existing condition of Type 2 diabetes. So even if I could afford a plan, I'm now uninsurable. When I had a conversation with some of my republican friends, they basically said "Quit griping and get a job". I said, man, I have had a job for 17 years running my own company so I'm supposed to just shut all of that down to become an employee just for an insurance plan? From my point of view, the health insurance options in this country are mainly geared for people that are not self employed and do not have pre-existing conditions. I guy like me needs another option to where I can get coverage without being turned down AND that's not freakin' $2,000/month. I don't care how they do it, just DO IT.
