Wow what at month at GFY for Drama...

It seems that there is alot more design companies now then there was in 1998 when I first got started with Supercharged.

We have to do more for less and we are 10 times better then we were in 1998. This I think is good for everyone. Clearly there is some marketing geniuses out there cause in spite of doing great designs for 5 years now we aren't overbooked.

I don't think we have ever had any unhappy customers, we have been days late on some things, but never weeks or months. If its broken we fix it. Its not done till the customer is happy. We usually take payment when the job is done or 50% down on big orders.

With over 500 designs under our belts for the likes of Voice Media, Gamme, Hawg, HELMY, Shaw, Adult, Lace, Matrix, Platinum Bucks, Sex Entertain, Holio, and tonnes more I don't think we have ever had an unhappy customer.

I need to go to Douglas College and get a refund on my Marketing courses, cause I sure suck at it.

OK, just to clear the air a little on some things since my name was mentioned.

Traci Carson received a wire for $7500 for the winning PrivateGold design on August 29. It would have been a few days earlier but there was some miscommunication on both parties parts regarding the wire info. The contest ended August 20th and every day after that I heard from her multiple times asking when payment would be arriving. The checks for the others winners had already gone out. I personally sent them and if anyone did NOT receive them they never contacted me. I am pretty sure they all cleared.

The week that Traci recieved the wire for $7500 (which she told me she was going to spend at DisneyWorld) she also accepted work for more sites that we needed designed. The first site was a live cam site. The design was never quite right and we had to go back and forth on it for several days. Then one day she quit answering messages and phone calls and we did not here for her for 4 days. The site was a priority so we hired another designer who did it in one day and nailed it on the first try and included alternate designs at no cost. We prepaid them thru paypal so there was no problem. Traci got back several days later and got with me online and said that her grandmother had died and she had to leave in a hurry and had been with family all week and wanted to make things up with us. We decided that we could use more than one design for the live cam site and asked her to make a few more changes to get it right. Some changes were made but it never was right. Things didn't line up right, there were typos and weird phrases on the page (like it was done by someone with bad English skills).

During this time we also contracted with her to do a paysite. The paysite took several days longer than we were told but it came out really damn well so we did not mind.

Traci was paid for the paysite plus some console FPA's she had done for us. Because of the delays she offered to do the next paysite for free. Instead of taking one for free we said we did not want to pay for the live cam design since we were not happy with it and we had to get another design while she was MIA. She said that was OK because she wanted to use the design on another live cam site. As far as I was concerned things between us were settled and she even asked for more work which I declined.

I feel sorry for the designers involved that did not get paid. She DID mention that she had others helping her but it sounded to me that she was doing much of the work herself.
I DID meet her in person at the Internext show in Hollywood in August. She was really cocky and rubbed me wrong but I liked the designs I saw and decided to overlook her attitude. When I met her at the show she said I should just cancel the contest and pay her the $ because she was going to win because she was the best there was. Not that someone ELSE would be doing the work. Pretty misleading if you ask me. I think things backfired on her big time.

Few weeks ago Hungryman posted on GFY smth about hiring designers, I talked to him on icq because I hadn't regular clients that time. He was satisfied by my work but I wasn't satisfied with the deal (he said he'll pay me 40% of his prices and 50% if the work is made before the timeline). Thank god I didn't accepted it...
Then I saw Traci's post on xbiz about hiring designers few days ago, but after Hungryman's story I was cautious (inspired again)...

errr... if the guy agreed to do the work for those 400 bucks, it's because he had no information on what was the price, or do you really think somebody who knows the real facts would make the work for a 5% of the prize? Are you mixing medications? I understand that certain times a broker is advisable, but when the broker takes his/her slice of FUCKING 95% and he/she didn't even pay that lousy 5%, then this is not somebody I'd trust as a client nor as a worker. I'm not taking parts here, but if what was posted is true, then this guy batdelfuego (which i don't know, just in case) has my support, for what it worth.

Now, let's imagine these scenario: one of these so called "brokers" (the name comes because they leave the workers broke?) win a contest and the client wants more of that quality stuff. But in the meanwhile, the designer stopped working for the broker. What will the broker deliver? Scams and lies. There's nothing else in his/her bag of tricks. Now, if you're honest and you keep the people who's really making you money happy, then you'll have big chances to succeed. And if the "almighty" broker wants more money, then he/she should start to work for real. For a change, huh?

I will say one thing to all of you who have never met me ... that can be easily verified by those who have ... I am not a crook, I am a straight shooter ... Several months ago, I was out on my ass in the street without a place to go ... without a bed to sleep in, and without a computer to aid me in earning my living ... and it was the same very people who are joining in my bashing now who helped me to get back on my feet .... that is very sad.

I am forever grateful that I was fortunate enough to have a great network of friends to help me get back onto my feet, and as my way to give back to the community, I give about 10-20 hours a week to chatting with newbies on ICQ or in these forums ... I give them the straight goods from my personal experiences ... and yes I will even tell them about the "BRIANNA" episode ... It is not something I am proud of ... but even while I was using Brianna to make contacts in the industry and learn the business model, I was very careful not to accept charity or handouts ... that is probably the reason why BOB RICE decided that I was worth giving a second chance too ... I was active in the YNOT community only back then ... and Bob could have put a stake through my heart, but he didn't ... today, Bobo and I are very good friends on ICQ, chatting 2-3 times a week sometimes, and we can have drinks at conventions and laugh at the past ...

One thing I became VERY aware of in the past several days, is who my real friends are, and who are not, and even a couple that I had thought WERE, who I am finding out are not ...

I even am finding out I have friends in people I have never met , as well as ones I havee, but have just never really talked to alot ... The amount of people behind me telling me to keep my chin up was unbelievable

To all of those who have proven to be real friends, I am forever grateful to you, and owe you all .... to the rest of you who would rather just jump on the bash me bandwagon, as it seemed like the popular thing to do ... FUCK YOU ALL !!!

I am not about to go crawl under a rock, just because a few imbeciles don't like me and call me names ... I have far too many GOOD people in the industry that are friends ...

I believe the only thing I have not addressed in this post is the money that I owe to a couple of my designers ... but I have spoken with those involved to make arrangements ....... I know that I am not the only one to owe anybody ... so let the people that don't owe anybody be the first to cast stones ... I owe very little, compared to some of the amounts being thrown around in the past couple of days ...

OK ... I have had my say now ... and have sprained 3 or 4 fingers in doing so ... I am off to bed ...

When it comes to domain transfers, it is never the recieving registrar that is the problem. They are more than happy to accomodate new business.

It is always the losing registrar, directnic in this case, and/or the losing domain owner who will do something to slow or fuck up the transfer. Or generally be a pain in the ass.....

When it comes down to faxing signed papers to registrar's to prove ownership and to request transfer, then someone really fucked up and let things slide.

Flat out, if a domain is registered to you (or your company) and is current, it can be transferred to a new owner in a heartbeat, not a week or month.



Editing to note that SNOW of Mafiabucks and me, snowone are not the same people.

Ok, interesting thread. I hear some people complaining about payments, deadlines, etc.
When I started out designing, I worked for 2 companies too. And both always seemed to be late with payments. The first one a bit more but however, after doing a few things for them I decided to give it a try and started working on my own. Now this was the best thing I ever did. No more begging for payments and stuff like that.

Only got 1 man not paying me for design sofar, as we agreed totally on the work. He is a GFY visitor too, but who cares anyway, he probably won't pay me after all.

What I am trying to say is, if you are the one who won the private gold contest, then why the hell don't you work on your own? The winning design was great and definetely the best off all. So start your own biz, I guess if people know you made the winning design finding work shouldn't be too hard.

Holy shit, I got online when I woke up and my icq lit up like a christmas tree, all messages with links pointing to this thread, I had some real catching up to do.. I don't know where to start so I'll just say whatever comes first to my mind.
SeeSea was right, I did design CSG site mentioned above (btw fletch I've sent you a few messages a while back none answered), and a few other sites Brad mentioned.
There are 2 sides to every story, and since I (talk about luck) was somehow inside several of them, I don't know who to believe anymore.
When I got into the design biz (I was pretty bad I admit, but did learn quickly), Paul (Hungryman) was the first to offer me help and guidance. Pensfan/bucknaked was his partner (and if I connected the dots right, he had a bigger role and %, but I AM NOT SURE) back then and I started working for them (I can't really remember whether it was still Graffixalley or already paysitedesign). I did a few sites, got paid a part of the work and then they split up. As Pens was working for adult.com I continue to work with HM.
Anyway, I was owed by Pens/Duane about $3.000, which he paid in smaller parts every now and then almost in full, we're at less than 400bucks and I do believe that I will get paid. I'm only wondering WHEN, because his own "slow payer" statement does apply. It took him over a year now to send me my $2600part, but he pays.
I didn't want to reply to the big HUNGRYMAN thread by amp because I knew that (since english isn't my first language) some of the numerous gfy asskissers will wind a spot in my post where I used a wrong word to express myself and turn my whole post against Paul. HM is cool to talk to on icq, his suggestions helped me a great deal, and he paid me for EVERYTHING I made for paysitedesign.com. OK, now I'm owed an amount but it's only for the latest project so it's not a big deal, in a few days I'll get paid.
One other thing - he knows what he wants to achieve and knows to point it out, so those "he's just a fake designer" remarks do not apply. He understands web design etc, but works like a broker. On the other hand, 50% may sound like a ripoff, but you guys cannot imagine how hard it is to get work (if you charge over $250 per paysite lol) on the boards when you're not known. In my country (when I was starting out) there were no cc's (I couldn't get a domain or hosting) and simply the location field in my profile would instantly make you think "where the fuck is that?" and decide to get away. So I was happy with 500 bucks I get. I don't know how he talked with the clients (did they have the impression that he was doing the work or us, his designers), but often when I got forwarded instructions from the client, they were like "tell him to change this or that", so I guess that they knew.
Traci is a completely different story from my point of view. She was all ok while I worked, and 2 days after the payday she used western union (I'm in yugoslavia so it's either that or wire) to get me paid. I am not owed alot, a bit over 300bucks but I don't wanna let go . Anyway, I went to the WU office and filled out the form with the info she gave me (I PRINTED it out and just filled in the form with my pen, no way I made a single mistake.). The clerk comes back after a while and shreads the form I filled into pieces.. "The transfer has been cancelled." was the explanation. I went home and catch traci on icq, she told me that it got through, and that WU in my country is keeping the money. I called the WU reps later and I was told that the money tranfer control number she gave me DOES exist, but isn't related to either mine or her name. Since then she wasn't answering either on icq or email, and I've been talking to her over pensfan.
Instead of writing it all, I'll drop some quotes from our icq history:

Nemanya - By the way, one time your wife or you sent the money with "NEMANJA HANSON" (replaced receivers last name with senders) as the receiver, and they still approved the transaction. a small mistake like tracy instead of traci would have been ignored too.

My last bit of business in here...

I can't speak for many of these brokering companies... but I know from personal experience there are dozens of honest and exceptional designers around here. By my own experience some of these creative people are the kindest, most easy going and giving people on the boards.

Undoubtedly, many of these people have fallen prey to 'slick' salespeople trying to broker their work. I think it's awful that many designers have gone unpaid. The lesson to be learned here is obviously that people should only do work with a deposit and never release final files until they are paid in full.

I am looking forward to getting the content and I hope you realize I didn't want to buy the shit. I already own over 110,000 images and the last thing I needed was 34 more content CDs. However, since you both were incapable of producing the required licensing for the few images used in the tours I really had no choice but to spend yet another $1000 to acquire all the content.

What I suggest to any designer that doesnt get their money on outsourced jobs, is when the payment deadline is passed put the work in your portfolio

I deliver on time to people I outsource for, and I expect them to pay me . If they dont I will put the work in my portfolio ,
