Any Anti Virus soft better than AVG?
I'm using AVG Free and it seems to be slowing down everything... especially internet related stuff (skype, firefox, etc).
Real pain in the ass... anyone recommend anything else? |

Try Avast, it is by far my favorite free anti-virus. Free for home use, if you want to use it commercially its a small price to pay for a great piece of constantly up-to-date anti-virus software.

I used to use Avast and switched to ESET Business Edition (NOD32). I will never go for a free AV again. ESET takes care of my spam, and keeps my pc A!!

Avast and ESET are very good and way more updated and sophisticate than the "sacred cows". Panda is very good too. AVG, Norton and PC Cillin makes baby jeezes cri

It doesn't slow anything down if you configure it properly, also AVG updates pretty often...
with that I've been getting pop-ups from the free version and that pissed me off big time, pretty timely thread I must say. Personally I've heard ggod things about AVast, might give it a try. |

I went with Avira and it has worked very well for me. It was pretty cheap too like $25 for year. I did some looking around before I got it and several different review sites and magazines rated in as the top virus protector. So far I have no complaints and really like it.

Go with Avast. It doesn't slow down the computer and can catch some viruses that Symantec, for example, doesn't see at all.

As far as free is concerned AVG is shit, go with Avira or Avast as second choice. If you are willing to spend a few bucks I would get Norton internet security 2009 (norton was shit before but they have upped their game and is now cutting edge) or eset smart security.

Kaspersky is hands down the best. I used to use Nortons360, but I think every virus coder has Nortons number. I would get viruses that would disable Nortons and then fuck my machine up big. Kaspersky locks my shit down!!

I tossed Norton for Avast while I look for something that is a bit more thorough.

By my own experience, I've seen lots of infected machines and helpless anti-viruses. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but whenever I see some running antivirus on infected machine that isn't able to detect, or it detects BUT CAN'T REMOVE the virus, I decide not to use it again. I've seen Avast and ESET helpless, trying to remove the same viruses over and over, every minute, even with full scan. I switched to trend micro and I was confident almost a year (until I got infected with simple autorun shit). I've NEVER seen Kaspersky helpless, he'll REMOVE the viruses, even if that means damaging the operating system. I hated it before because it sucked my resources, but that was 5 years ago. Now it doesn't slow down the performance. At the end what's more important to you, just a little bit speed increase or security? Its not possible to go with both. If you got 3 GB RAM, why would you care if antivirus takes 50 MB? What's wrong with you people? ![]() Oh, by the way, personally, I'm using linux 90% of the time, so I don't really care. |

Btw numbers and statistics is what it's all about. I'm not saying kaspersky sucks, just that nod32 doesn't. That site doesn't fuck around with those test, you can find out way more there than just about anywhere else when comes to antiviruses. A lot of people say oh well cnet said or pcmag said, blah blah blah. But how much time did they spend using those to write a review or two? Not near the time the people of that site did. If ESET was really useless for removing most viruses I doubt that site would rate it so highly. ![]() |
