I just visited a friend who just survived a heart attack a month ago (Jan 09). The doctors say it was 100% from smoking. Not from diet or anything.

When you smoke it constricts your arteries, so blood cant get thorough.
So he was telling me he was at Mass General and the doctor was going up his body with a wire (or whatever) they put in his leg that went up to his heart to try and open his arteries up more, WHILE HE WAS AWAKE. He said he felt like his chest was going to burst. He said the whole ordeal was very painful, from the heart attack to the medical work done.

He said he threw the fucking cigarettes out. He's had health scares and gone to Mass General from smoking before, I think he has a minor stroke once, but this time he's really lucky to be alive.

good luck. I'm gonna recommend once you get to 10 days never cheat. one cig ends up being a pack and then your right back to where you started the addictions comes back quicker then it left.

I quit 11 days ago. Smoked for over 15 years, and it was easy ... funky trick, but it worked. I went to the store and bought Hawkens (bubble gum of smokeless tobacco), every time i wanted a cig, i had a dip. 2 tubs total ... 2nd one is still more than half full, and its been 5 days since i wanted that shit either. No smoking, no dip, no shit. It worked for me, might not work for you ... but either way good luck.

Good luck with it...it's all about realizing that most of the agony from not smoking is merely from the addiction TO smoking and the nicotine and that it will be gone if you tough through the first few days.

I've smoked on and off for about 30 years and I quit on Monday. I am now on day 6 with no cigarettes. I'm using Chantix and it helps a lot...takes the edge off for sure. I'm taking it one day at a time right now and so far have not cheated once. I keep telling myself "I can beat these little bastards" and you can too...
