here is an idea that may sound silly, all those "in prison for life" criminals should be put on a remote island that is at least 250 mile away from civilization. give them basic tools to hunt and survive. then forget about them. If they kill one another off, oh well, thats what you get for killing someone else in the first place.

My two cents ($.02)

I think that the death penalty is in direct violation with
the 8th Amendment of the Constitution. It doesnt matter how
you dress up death. It is cruel and unusual punishment.
However, I do agree with someone who said that jails should
be jails and not country clubs.

Prisons are not designed to be comfortable, loving places. People are there to recieve punishment. They are the garbage dump of the community.

And they are not comfortable loving places...but at the moment schools and breeding grounds for smarter and more aggressive criminals.

The focus should be on rehabilitation so when they do get released...which a large percentage will...they will not come back to haunt your community.

Im for the death penalty. I think the victims families should get to pull the switch as well. If someone kills your daughter you deserve the right to revenge. sure it won't bring her back... but I tell ya it would make me feel a hell of a alot better. Heck id prob shoot his ass on the courthouse steps if it happened to my family.

I guess you've never visited a jail...My brother is a cop and I've had the opportunity to visit a jail and I was shocked to see they had TV, VCR, Playstation, Computers, access to a full education, gym facility, and they're even served steak! Now how is that not comfortable? Hell I couldn't even afford half of that when I was in university...Lot's of poor people can't even afford a hot meal!!!!

You made the best point AGAINST the death penalty.

It should not be an EMOTIONAL thing...it's emotions that cause us to make mistakes.

It is emotion that drives police to falsify evidence...coerce confessions...and blindly follow a trail that leads no where while real evidence leads to the real killers.

No, I can't say I have...Are they bad?
I don't consider Montreal to be a small city either...

Some of the inmates were in for murder not just being drunk in public...lol

Wrong...my 2nd cousin did time in Kansas for accessory to murder and visited him on occassion and have seen how it affected him after 25+ years in prison.

Now before you start saying this guy deserved the death penalty etc...let me tell you a bit about his story.

He and 3 other buddies were exacting revenge...one of his friend's girlfriends was raped by this guy.

They beat him, chained him up to the back of their car and dragged him all over Wichita...he died...they all went to jail.

If youve never heard of San Quentin or Angola you shouldnt be arguing prisons arent tough enough hehehe ;)

Angola is a prison surrounded by swamps and alligators.

"Not just an ordinary farm, we were at the gates of the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. The largest prison in the United States, 63 percent of the men in its confines will die there. Originally a plantation manned by slaves from the African nation of Angola"

I have a close relative (male) who did some time in whatever floor is the gangster ward in LA county jail.

He said when the lights go out, they eat twix bars out of each others assholes, and in the morning they all have dried cum in their hair. He was scared. Luckily he speaks spanish and got to kick it in the corner with the hetero mexican immigrants.

Oh yeah, and at one point they were rounded up naked, and had to straddle a bench. He said the black guy behind him was pressing a boner up against his ass and whispering dirty things in his ear. GROSSSSSSS!

Ok, so it's surrounded by alligators so? I thought most inmates stayed in and not out? Hehehehe! Perhaps it keeps them from escaping no?

Just because I haven't heard of every prison doesn't mean I can't argue about a subject I feel so strongly about!

Which is why families don't make laws. Laws are not too be made on emotions. If they were, alcohol, cigarettes, automobiles, planes, and just about everything else you can possibly think of would be illegal.

The argument you just made is extremely ignorant.

The day emotions start creating laws is the day I move to my own island.

You guys can bitch about politicians and lawyers all you want, but I'll give them credit for one thing, they are very objective. Which is exactly what's needed in their positions.

And just for the record, if someone killed/raped my little girl, of course I would want to fry them on a skillet, and probably would if given the opportunity. But that sure as hell doesn't mean I shouldn't have to pay for my crime.

I'm personally against the death penalty. I was always for the death penalty, but about two years ago logic kicked in. There are many reasons I think the death penalty should be abolished, none of which I'll go into here.

Thats jail, not prison. HUGE difference.

And I can guarantee you the Detroit "jail" does not have PS, VCRs, Computers, and steak. Just lots of big scary black guys.

I imagine you must be speaking of Canadian jails.

1 class of students at a univ researched death penalty cases at a state prison and found proof that an handful of them were actually innocent

if u knew more about our justice system (i.e. had been a pub defender or seen some of the death penalty cases up close) u'd know what a joke it is, noone has any clue how many innocent ppl are killed each year but the majority of the pop. feels that innocents have been put to death in the US in the last decade

the problem isnt killing killers, its making sure the right ppl are convicted and having a 'fair' justice system

cant fix one without the other, personally im in favor of capital punishment if there is no other social recourse meaning if the prisoner cannot contribute to society, but the current system is 2 much of a drain on taxpayers 2 make it a better alternative than life in prison.

I imagine you must be speaking of Canadian jails.
Canadian jails don't have many big scarry black guys, but they Do have Big Ugly Socialist Natives though that don't like whities much.

No wait... I changed my mind

we shoulld have colossal trials with a massive media circus for these criminals

further we should cause as much pain as possible to the victims families by making this a very lengthy process

then after years and millions of taxpayers dollars, we should find that a murder conviction cannot stick due to some technicality, or find them mentally insane, or plea bargain them down

then after about 5-6 years of this nonsense, we should let the criminal write a book, and make a ton of money causing further pain and despair to the families of his victims

oh, yeah... I forgot, we already have that

How about because if they can't get a lawyer to defend him, there will be no trial?

The one problem I see with Capitol Punishment is, it's a government run program. To me, that means it has to be suspect.

Not exactly right. The criminal is there AS punishment, not FOR punishment.

I'm sure you'd change your mind about the death penalty yourself, if you found yourself wrongly convicted of murder, as we now know happens quite a bit.

Just a question: If you found yourself on death row wrongly convicted of murder, would you be saying, "I didn't commit this murder, but I still think the death penalty is a good thing"?

If you make these sorry Mother Fuckers fear what is going to happen to them it might make them think a little harder when it comes time to do the crime! Depending on the crime they should pay with pain.... Public stoning till death!

It costs more to keep them alive.

A lot. Hundreds of dollars a day, per criminal. They arent even worth what it costs to keep them alive.

Not even close. To house an inmate for 30 years would cost the state under 2 million. To exhaust appeals it would cost 15-20 million to execute the inmate.

I however am pro capital punishment. Anyone that rapes and kills a 5 year old child doesn't deserve the right to breath!

I agree with that 100%. However what in the hell do we do about the legal system that says we need to re-habilitate the morons who do this sort of shit?
