Downloading drivers for ethernet card - GoFuckYourself.com

Damn, probably the 4th thread about my new computer. I uninstalled Windows XP and installed Windows 98. For some reason I can not find a CD for the ethernet drivers, I didn't lose it, I'm assuming I didn't get one. Anyway, I can't access the Internet without the proper drivers, where can I download some drivers off the Internet? I checked download.com, but they didn't have much for Dell.

Any suggestions?

Same problem today..during a XP to 2000 downgrade..
shitty when windows doesnt detect your fucking card...

Take out the ethernet card and look for model/manufacturer
and check their website. Download the drivers. Voila.

If the card is onboard (usually for hp/compaq/dell etc desktop
PC's) check your PC model specs at your suppliers website
and follow the routine described above..

If it's a Tjoki Cin tech Japan card.. Google does miracles.

You are making this too hard. I do LANs and WANs for a livng...go to Best Buy and buy a cheap 10/100 ethernet card and install it into one of your expansion slots. Install the driver that comes with the card, stick your RJ45 jack in, and you are off and running.

Those all in one cards are pieces of shit anyway, this will give you alot more flexibility.

I am a MCSE 2000 guy, and if were me, I would put the XP back on the computer, change my files to NTFS, it is twice the operating system that win98 it...no more fucked FAT tables that make it a crashing dog.

Just buy a cheap 10/100 card... should be about fifteen bucks and your are set...your computer will detect it right away, since it is plug n play and your problems will be over.

One last note on why it probably didn't detect your card...you need to go to system administration and see whether you xp default was set on drive c or d....if it was c, then it probably would not recognize your drive as once you make something NTFS, that is the end of the game....FAT32 becomes brainless and can't do anything with the files....they have become essentially NT files, which is a good thing. I run all LAN stuff on NTFS, more security, more stability and better peformance.

i don't know what kind of ethernet cards they put in dells but just open up the case and look for a model number/manufacturer on the ethernet card, type that shit in google and you should be able to find a driver.

easy very easy.. if you don't have one get a screw driver also... do you know the Diff. between a slot (regular) and phillips screw?

I hope you do.. just plug the card in, have your disk win98 and the one that comes with your New card.... just make sure the card you get has the right jack (the Phone looking think your network cable plugs into)

Only if you don't know how to use it right, if you bother to learn how it works and functions, it is one of the best systems out there. Stick about 512K of DRD RAM on it, and it smokes anything out there. Including Macs new OS, whatever. RAM is so dirt cheap right now, it is no big deal.

I like open source stuff, too especialy slackware...but there just isn't enough software to support all the I want to do, yet.

On the other hand, if you like 98, you have to out of your mind, it isn't even an OS...it's a DOS interface that crashes because it can't run programs independently of one another.

I don't work for MS and don't even like MS, I like stuff that works well...XP is the only system since NT they have come up with that is worth two cents, with the exception of MS EXchange, which is just plain a kick ass email server. Sure beats send-mail on Unix, which is a pain in the ass.

Note: NT is only great as a LAN server, not a webserver, it is a disaster in that capacity.

Installing the card is a simple as it gets, just pull the plate covering the expansion slots off, you will want to use the PCI slots, they are usually white. It doesn't matter which PCI slot you use, pick one you like.The AGP slot is usually black, don't is it, you will notice the card won't fit anyway. Firmly push the card into the PCI slot, screw the screw in securly and you are done. You generally have to push he card in a little harder than you would think. They don't just slide in. Put the cover on, install the drivers and you are done. Stick the RJ-45 jack back in...end of problem.

I usually remove those multi purpose cards from a computer anyway, they are junk.

i dont wanna bother figuring out how it functions.
I just wanna start my fucking computer and make money without having to worry where the fuck they moved this or that..and having to wonder why everything responds so fucking slow.

back in 97/98. I've been using NT4 SP4 nonstop till 1 month ago
when i had to upgrade my OS (since everyone else in the office was using at least w2k for quite some time...) and really...
upgrades kill productivity..

One day i'll be in control of this Internet thing and i'll demand
exclusive FreeBSD servers with NT4 clients. That will
make the world a better place.

XP and future releases wil be great for mom's and kids with a desire to chat and play.
XP and future MS releases are a nightmare to me since i dont have too much time to fuck around.

I must agree with you. I have win2k pro and win98... I prefer win98 and use it 99.9% of the time... I just prefer it... I'll get XP maybe in 8 to 12 months maybe....

Yep... 98 is my favorite OS besides NT4.. have it on my laptop.

Except 98 produces those random blue screens of death
while, for example, trying to cut and paste a piece of text ;)

NT4 is rock solid with the 98 interface/feel. Working on a system 12 hours a day, powered 24/7 and only having to reboot twice a
months makes you happy.

I understand where you are coming from, I was a beta tester on XP for a year before it came out. So I am very acquanited with the program.

You are definately wrong about it being for old people and gamers, it can take a program that only runs on 98 and emulate 98 to run the program on xp. It has the best system restore program I have ever seen. Far surpases Adaptec's Go Back, you cannot crash XP...I have done everything possible to do it and it won't happen, it will just tell you to save your work and close the program.

The only real difference between XP and win2000 is the interface look...anything that runs on 2000 runs on xp.

By the way, it is fast as hell, I don't know where you came up with the idea it is slow. Look at he reviews, it has smoked everything. The authrorizations and permissions section, along with the netorking allocations are so simple, my daughter set up the home network, she is thirteen.

The TCP/IP setting are so simple a kid could set them up, try do that with 98...

I am not trying to talk you into XP, I just know all the MS programs inside and out and XP is solid and fast. I guess we will agree to disagree.
