Interesing VISA reg stuff...
I just got off the phone with a tech/cust serv rep with iBill. The guy was actually intelligent (!) and helpful and very talkactive. I'd called regarding the ongoing crap with their Web900 payouts (still late)-- but we ended up talking about the new VISA regulations and how, as he saw it, in the long run they'll really benefit the webmaster.
When I asked how -- he explained that the main reason porn is considered high risk is the charge back/fraud issue. It's not about the content (as a lot us generally assume). And I believe this too -- when it comes down to censoring some naked pictures OR making some money, people will go for making the money. VISA is no different. Anyway, he was explaining how in the past a customer was able to call up VISA and say, "There's this charge here from a company called CCBill and I have no idea how that got there, or what it is." Because VISA had no detailed info about the transaction they would generally lean in the customers favor and grant the charge back. Now, because each site has to give a DBA name that will appear on the customer's statement, VISA will be able to say, "Oh well that was a charge for a foot fetish website that was made two weeks ago. And, hmmmm, we can see here that a month before that there was a charge for another foot fetish site through iBill." Etc. etc. In other words, despite the Big Brothery vibe to the whole thing, they're going to be able to stop a lot of rampant charge back situation -- which, despite what people kvetch about, DOES indeed cost VISA money as well, each time they have to deal with one. I think this is a valid reading of the situation, and despite groaning while giving out my fucking drivers lisc. number when I had to register last week, I'm gonna look on the bright side and see this new reg thing as a good thing. And then I will feel very content and satisfied and want to smoke a big bowl -- and live happily ever after. End of story. Amen. ![]() |

daddynastee,
Your Ibill rep did not know what the hell he is talking about. THe rules are simple, without a signature on a sales draft, the customer will ALWAYS win a dispute. All merchants with their own merchant account have their company name on the descriptor and the card issuing bank (the bank who issues the credit csard to the customer) does not care about the merchant. THey care about making their customer happy. THey have no acces to the Visa database of registered URLs to do any type of site comparison either. That guy fed you a load of bull. Sorry Mitch

daddynastee,
Sorry to say it, but you've just been served up yet another one of an Ibill rep's freshly thought up loads of bullshit.. Take every thing they say with a grain of salt, or hit redial to hear a different story. You should have a look back through the posts on the different stories and lies Ibill has been serving to other webmasters in the past few weeks... I'm sure that one of the prerequisites of getting a job at ibill must be a wild imagination and demonstrated ability to make up stories quickly on the fly.. ![]() ![]() |

4 months later, Mastercard chargeback with an affidavit that we were crooks, that he could never contact us, etc.... Sent them all the documentation ( 40 pages!) and their answer was: It was a "card not present" transaction, so the client is protected if he claims he got defrauded... From that point on. I never opposed a chargeback even on hardgoods. So Mitch is right . PS: Ibill has been employing a lot of people coming from the garbage industry .... I was told Friday buy one that they would process Canada. The other said No. I know it is NO. |

![]() Jesus. Well, uhm -- 'thanks' for the corrections (great book btw). What a cold douche. I think I was waylaid because the iBill guy sounded intelligent AND informed -- unlike most conversations with their reps -- which are like spending time with Anna Nicole Smith on a Xanax (not to be redundant). Thanks. DN |

I need to add that although the "high risk" fees and designation goes to the adult industry we are not the only people hit by chargebacks. When I do actually receive hard copy back with a chargeback it is usually us along with CCbill, Ibill, Amazon sometimes other "legitimate" merchants.
This is the credit card industries way of earning a few more dollars and forcing more control over an industry the government wants to regulate. The real kick to too many people is going to be when they find it much more difficult than they realize to keep chargebacks under control. I know I have had to block whole bin's and entire countries. |
