Good luck to both of you.

That speaks volumes about the level of your commitment to that person.

If they say they will go to rehab, do you have the plane tickets to take them to the reheb place you already setup?

GTS Mark 03-24-2008 09:08 PM

should I initiate an intervention in phoenix?

My best friend committed suicide after a 3 year battle with meth.
Was the smartest, nicest, most responsible guy I ever met. But meth turned him into a basketcase. He hung himself and left a 6 page suicide note. His family and half his friends didnt even know he was on drugs cuz he was so good at hiding it from everyone. I felt incredibly guilty that I knew but didnt try to intervene. He kept saying he was fine and its no big deal, just something he does on weekends to blow off steam and thats it. I took him at his word and had no idea it was that bad. Now I wish I had intervened. I miss him very much. The last 2 years have been so quiet.

Had I known how bad he was I would have told his family and he would be alive today.

Robbie 03-24-2008 09:16 PM

Damn it Scott, this better not be me! I haven't been out of my office since Costa Rica and I need to have a good time.
It'll be just my luck, I'll be hitting a line and getting my dick sucked when the door will bust open and it'll be SleazyDream with a straight-jacket.

LOL despite my post against you in that 'other thread', this post is easily the best of this thread :thumbsup

SHANESWORLD 03-24-2008 09:21 PM

hopefully the word will get out to other people on where "not" to be at what time. would suck to turn a corner in the hallway of the hotel and run into the keystone cops of arizona hauling someone away who got pissed that people sprung something like this on him and started swinging, taking down whoever was in the path. :(

i personally dont think a trade show is any place for something like this, but not my business. good luck though.

Spunky 03-24-2008 09:25 PM

Dope is for dopes.I have tried on a few friends..no way in hell ..they need to want to and even then it's a constant struggle to stay clean

Brad Mitchell 03-24-2008 09:31 PM

You sound like one of the few in this thread that have actually dealt with a drug abuser.

Coke is not something that can be kicked in a week. It doesn't matter your intentions, if they don't want to quit, they won't.

Unfortunately it usually takes something very drastic for them to see the light, and even then it is a 50/50 deal, at best.

Actually was an Ex g/f..she smoked heroin.I had spent over 20k trying to help from methadone to rehab..she refused to quit and I couldn't take any more. She wound up dead at 21.Another buddy was so wrapped up in blow he wound up killing himself by blowing his brains out.
I'm no saint but whenever I hear any potential g/f's mixed up in anything other than weed,I run not walk away.

if I put you in a straight jacket it'll only be cause the hookers I bought you were below your standads and you needed to be restrained so they could fuck you and collect their money. :thumbsup

Now that is funny. the methadone probably fucked her up more than smoking the heroin.

Spunky 03-24-2008 09:50 PM

I agree with that. That has to be one of the worst ways to treat a junkie.Lock them up in a cell with counseling and let them sweat it out.Even then when they get out all they want and think about is another fix and will always think about it.A near death experience will scare some away from it.I never had the urge to bang anything or smoke that crap.Although I did try it and the high was incredible.thank god I didn't become addicted

Smoking is for chicks. Try the spike. There is a reason it is so popular.

Spunky 03-24-2008 09:58 PM

Never..all I enjoy is the occasional reefer.I'm getting to old for that crap

that just gave me a chill.

wheat 03-24-2008 10:48 PM

I don't think the unofficial drinking olympics is the place to stage an intervention, but that's just me.

heymatty 03-24-2008 10:56 PM

This must be a joke. If not its seriously retarded.

bashbug 03-24-2008 11:01 PM

Stupid Stupid Stupid fucking idea.

Get real friends and family, not losers from online, and certainly not at a convention

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 03-24-2008 11:06 PM

People who get hooked are weak asses.

Can someone change my nickname to GoneStraightEdge? lol

V_RocKs 03-24-2008 11:37 PM

Didn't know you and XXXJAY were that close... but OK...

Rochard 03-24-2008 11:59 PM

I fought my battle with drugs and I won. That's not to say that I'm bigger or better than anyone else; A split decision landed me in Marine Corps boot camp at Paris Island for three months. That kicked my drug habit and I'm never ever going back again.

I can't tolerate people doing drugs in my personal life. I would have hauled him into rehab a while ago.

No good deed, goes unpunished.

potter 03-25-2008 04:17 AM

I'm just wondering what you feel deserves the intervention? I've lost friends to addiction, people who got so into it it eventually killed them. However, I also have alot of friends who can use drugs alot to party and not "abuse" them.

roly 03-25-2008 05:01 AM

rehab is for quitters

I really think that you should mind your own business and focus on realizing your OWN happiness........You sit up there in dark cold Canada depressed and the next chance you get to be in some sunshine, you waste energy focusing on another "friend's" business?

You need to snap out of it....And you won't really know what I mean UNTIL you actually snap out of it.

The idea is for close family and friends who are affected by the addict to give them an ultimatum and back them into a corner by deciding to have nothing to do with that person anymore or help them, give them a place to live or give them money so the group can pressure them into going to rehab immediately *before* they think they are ready and before they kill themselves or hurt other people.

This is the ONLY other person that has made some real sense in this thread....The rest of y'all are brain dead....Seriously.

dav3 03-25-2008 06:21 AM

You should let them make their own decisions, whether it is for the better or worse. Let nature take it's course.

Even if you try to help, it will most likely back-fire, especially if you get them thrown in jail. You can't help some one who doesn't want help.

viki 03-25-2008 06:31 AM

i don't know anything about this person, but i can think of many reasons why this shouldn't be done at a convention.

- people talk and word will get out about who it is. the addict will resent the fact that this is being done in a place where there are so many people he works with and that you are putting his reputation on the line.
- conventions are full of drugs. you'll be asking them to quit something in the middle of what is essentially a big party.
- you'd be putting him in a place where he'd have too many excuses not to quit. words like hypocrite would be slung around, as well as comments about jealousy and trying to destroy his reputation.

again, i don't know anything about the particular situation but those are just a few thoughts that immediately come to mind.

It seems the way this company operates doesn't sound like intervention at all and if this (set up) was pulled on me I would not be too happy to say the least and would most likely not cooperate at all.

Friends intervening can be good if done right and if the person is willing to listen and acknowledge that they do need help, but using a company to force some one to quit probably will not work and it could cause allot of resentment towards the people trying to help.

Maybe the Forum is not such a good place to do this....

I wish you guys luck and hope your friend pulls through this.

bufferover 03-25-2008 06:39 AM

Depends of the drugs but no matter what he needs to do other things
