I went to see Obama speak today in Boston.
I've honestly never heard a better public speaker before in my life. Being a huge fan of his I've practically watched all of his speeches on YouTube. Yet he still managed to bring 90% new material and delivery. Guy has a great sense of humor and at the same time offers serious solutions.
My one gripe with the speech were the hecklers...Ron Paul supporters. Obama addressed them once, dismissed them and didn't skip a beat even though they kept yelling. This guy could really change the U.S. for the better. It amazes me how many people I speak to on a daily basis that had never heard his name, or hear him speak. I encourage all of those people that I meet to watch the Democratic National Convention 2004 Keynote that he delivered. I wish I brought a dig vid cam or at least a digital camera with mpeg but I didn't. The most I have are crappy Blackberry Curve pictures that are too dark to distinguish much of anything besides the stage. I volunteered to shoot up to New Hampshire on Saturday or Sunday to get things started for the Primary. I figured it was a good chance to do some good work...plus the hot chic sitting next to me on the grass signed up to. Still not sure if I'm going though. Definitely check out Obama when he comes around your way.

I do not believe any black man can get elected President of the US. Maybe someday, but not today. There are still too many old fashioned voters out there. Don't forget the red states!
We will probably need to elect a female President first. However, I am sure Obama plays well in an ultra liberal city such as Boston. Personally, I would vote for Obama before I'd vote for Hillary. She is my absolute least favorite candidate... ever. The best would be a pairing of Hillary and Obama. He would guarantee her defeat. But, I think she is too politically savvy to make a mistake like that.

If you watch his announcement speech, or his speech at the 2004 convention and don't get goosebumps and/or flashbacks of JFK and RFK, you probably don't have a pulse.

I still think he is basically running for vice president. He has been about 20 points behind Hillary for months now and has done little to try to close that gap. Maybe he has something big planned as the primaries draw closer, but I think he is just getting out there and running his campaign and trying not to overly piss anyone off so that Hillary will pick him up as her vice pres.

he'd make a great president, too bad the majority of voters are too ignorant to accept it...and prefer keeping their heads up their asses.

The 20 points behind thing is meaningless at this point in the game. Here's a poll from Dec 2003, which is two months later in the cycle than where we are right now. CBS News Poll, December 14-16, 2003 Dean - 23% Clark - 10% Lieberman - 10% Gephardt - 6% Sharpton - 5% Kerry - 4% Edwards - 2% The eventual nominee was polling behind Al Sharpton for crying out loud. I also don't like all these remarks the media is making about "he's not doing anything to close the gap" and "he's got to go after Hillary" Fuck the media, they want to cover a mudslinging match, it's good for ratings. You can't be the candidate of "hope" and a "new kind of politics" and then run dirty negative ads about Hillary. Obama doesn't have to do anything but keep delivering his message, the voters will do the rest ![]()

Such a ticket would open up a very agressive equal rights debate in the media. Americans would be influenced by this. There is a whole segment of the US population out there who support equal rights and would vote in an election they would otherwise stay home for. I actually believe that a Hillary / Obama ticket would all but guarantee victory. |

A lot of people say that there are too may redneck/hick type people in this country to vote for them. In reality those people are not going to be voting for any democrat no matter who it is. It doesn't matter if Jesus himself came back, if he is running as a Democrat he isn't going to win Texas, Oklahoma and other deep south states. Hillary and Obama would be an actual change from the "old white guy' standard we get every four years and it might be enough to actually motivate the unwashed hippy left to get out and vote. Factor that in with the fact that the country is still awash in a republican backlash and you find yourself with a pretty tough to beat ticket in clinton/obama. |

And yes the T sucks. I took it in from Quincy Adams but had my girlfriend pick me up in Boston and she drove me back to the parking lot. So I'm not quite sure what the 9pm ride home looked like....but judging by the amount of people there (10k-12k) I'd say it was a long ride for some.

Can I ask why you don't like Hillary? The reason why I like her is because she's smart enough to know Bill's value, and what we need right now is someone who is strong in economics and foreign policy=Bill. Sure, Obama seems more likeable, but Bill is the reason why Hillary has my vote.

Obama totally turned me off to him last week or so when he was on CNN defending that he couldn't make it back from New Hampshire to vote on a major bill because he was at his HQ.
His excuse was something like... well we don't know what we are voting on every day. To me he just seems inexperienced... maybe in the future, but now I don't think he is right. He's a very smart man, and good speaker... but... is that good enough? No. |

I like Obama and I also felt the same the first time I heard him speak. What an amazing presence. Great all the way around. My problem with him is inexperience. I think that will be his ONLY downfall, if anything. Give him another 4 years and things will be different. I don't think he's ready quite yet, though I would love for him to be. If Hillary gets elected President - I'm moving to another country... |

Hillary will get the nomination.
She will not choose Obama as her VP but once she is elected and gets to nominate her first Supreme - guess who it will be.... Obama......

NONE of them. If it was a close vote on something important I'm sure he would have made it. The vote you're probably referring to was the NON BINDING resolution declaring part of Iran's military a terrorist organization. Yeah, he should definitely be flying back to Washington to vote for every non binding resolution instead of running for president. ![]()

Obama speeches great, but I still am not certain what he stands for.
"Change" sure, but what change, he never seems to define it. (Basically the same doubts/frustrations as Cenk from The Young Turks is having and now that lame ass defence of his campaign about that anti-gay priest singing at his rallies) Of the possible nominees, at this point I'm hoping it will be Edwards, seems he might be the most forcefull in strenghtening the middle class (and then the dollar will go up again ![]() BUT the true agent for progressive change would be MIKE GRAVEL, so stop calling him nuts or whatever and actually listen/read what he's proposing

How much time do you have?
Travelgate is a big reason, knowingly causing criminal charges to be filed against an innocent man. Alleged massive campaign finance fraud is another. Allegedly stealing public owned furniture and antiques from the White House is a third. Her socialist healthcare agenda is yet another. Hillary is my least favorite candidate of all time. Literally, I would for for anyone before voting for her.

Obama may very well be a fantastic candidate for President...and may very well make an excellent President. I have heard him speak as well and was quite impressed.
Sadly, he has two things going against him...and both are ridiculous reasons...but you can't fight the truth. The U.S. is still too backward to accept a black man as President. The U.S. is far too judgemental to accept a man with a name like Barak Obama as president. It is sad that we cannot focus on a man for who he is, instead of what he is.
