Here's a poll from Dec 2003, which is two months later in the cycle than where we are right now.
CBS News Poll, December 14-16, 2003
Dean - 23%
Clark - 10%
Lieberman - 10%
Gephardt - 6%
Sharpton - 5%
Kerry - 4%
Edwards - 2%
The eventual nominee was polling behind Al Sharpton for crying out loud.
I also don't like all these remarks the media is making about "he's not doing anything to close the gap" and "he's got to go after Hillary"
Fuck the media, they want to cover a mudslinging match, it's good for ratings.
You can't be the candidate of "hope" and a "new kind of politics" and then run dirty negative ads about Hillary.
Obama doesn't have to do anything but keep delivering his message, the voters will do the rest

That is true. numbers often don't tell the story. The story will be told in after the first 4-6 primaries are held. If he does well there, he is a legit candidate, if not he is in big trouble. A lot of candidates are hanging on right now waiting for those first primaries and hoping they come out of nowhere with a big win. Most will go away after the first few are held though.
I do like that he is focusing on his message and not slinging mud, sadly he is up against the Clintons and nobody slings mud like they do.
