Why does everybody hate America(ns)?

It seems that every chance that other countries have to rag on America and it's citizens...they do. What the fuck? Are we like that big sports dynasty that just dominates the world and is easy to not like or what?

It seems like we are constantly helping the underdogs, albeit, slightly meddling, but none the less helping.

Why does everybody hate everything associated with Americans and America, except Americans?

before you think america is all great and wonderful for helping other countries, consider that america doesn't help countries unless it benefits somehow. that is, america isn't a giving nation.

it's not really helping to replace one dictator (individual leader) with another (the us government).

I think any country that creates a TV show like Jerry Springer deserves to be hated.

Not everybody does but in other parts of the world its the American fast food, porn, excess and the aggressive culture that gets people down.

Having said that, there is an element of jealousy there... people always make jibes about Microsoft because they're the biggest and most successful. Same applies here in some respect.

In China and in the Middle East they hate the Internet because they believe its an instrument by which we proliferate that culture into their homes. For China I guess theyre worried about democracy too.

I think some of their complaints are justified when America, for example, takes unilateral military actions or makes policy decisions based on self interest but most of it is fairly trivial and in my opinion, irrelevant.

America is the evil empire, the country is controlled by the rich white people (I'm not racist but thats the truth and you all know it) who don't give a damn about anything except their money.
the middle class americans are shallow people who don't understand shit about life.. they know only how to buy stuff from brand names coca cola nike etc...

Some times it's fun to be an american after the 11th of september
because americans JUST LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS (example hollywood.. have you seen a movie with a sad ending?)
and they love to strike all over the world, to prove over and over again how powerful they are..

anyways I can go on and on... but fuck it who cares..

I was always under the impression that "rednecks" were always quite patriotic. Country music loving proud to be an amerikun good ol boys with pickups and American flags on their gun racks.

I love my country, I just hate the people who live here. And it is people like you who cannot seperate the two that are truly ignorant.

No. I have a shaved head and a Jetta. I bet you drive a Mustang 5.0. Dumbfucks always do.

I don't hate Americans - I know they are just people like me and you with their own problems and concerns.

I hate the American policy for all the nasty things they have done in the world.

There is an interesting book listing all the cases where the American Goverment has interfered for the last 50-60 years. You can see the preview here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...03#reader-link
The author is an American journalist in an American newspaper just listing the FACTS and quoting many interviews of American leaders.

America is the evil empire? Compared to who? Iraq? China? Where there aren't many freedoms. America cannot be compared to a single country because we are a melting pot of pretty much everyone. If we were truly so terrible then why are there so many people trying to get in? Life is better here. Standards of living high, it is simple to get a basic education, and only here do people actually have the hope of being successful. The middle class in this country support the rich and the very poor by paying high taxes. Mostly to fund glut in entitlements for the poor and pork projects for all members of government. I'd agree that most Americans don't have a clue but we do value freedom, freedom of speech, and human rights, something that is a unique value system. I don't know of another country where these values are held as high as the US. As far as the brand name and such that non-Americans have access to, those products are probably the staples of their entire economy and are probably produced locally which provides jobs.

Sometimes it is fun to be an American after Sept 11? I can't and wouldn't want to turn on/off my citizenship like a light switch. I'm very proud of who I am and where I'm from. I pitty that you are taking the narrow view. However, I would fight and die to protect your 'freedom' to speak your views even if you wouldn't return the favor.

Just my

But this is one of the many things that makes America great. Hope.

From an American perspective, a higher quality of living is a good thing not a bad thing.

It just seems like half the people in other countries who are "USA haters" would certainly not turn down the opportunity to live here. And by golly we allow them to move right in?

freedom in america ??? hehehe.. i have been living there, in a middwest town in southern illinois near the indiana border. very kind people, but freedom???

freedom compared to china, russia, yes that might be true, but in my fucking country the highest politicans or bankers can travel by train, they don't have to be scared by terrorists, and if you say that switzerland is fucking tiny, smaller than one of your bigger cities, yes that might be true!! but our banks still control more private equity than everyone else!

man, i like america, i like americans (unlike labret does). but some folks overthere are fucking clueless and naive. i have seen interviews of gi's in afghanistan! fuck, they really believe they help someone else besides their own government which want to secure that oil pipline in northern afghanistan.

i tell you, i am fucking scared of the us goverment. the us should start to respect international treaties then it would get back political respect. the us could make a worldwide peace, but some governmental fucker just dont want.

I get an impression that there are a lot of American cry babies here.
The fact is, if you look at the posts in this board a LOT MORE Americans are crying about how Europeans don't like Americans than Europeans saying that America is doing something wrong etc.

I try to be as objective as I can, and I can hardly find anyone blaming USA, instead I see MANY AMERICANS who seem to be very worried about what people in other countries may think about them.

Maybe Americans are having their periods or something ;)

This board is comprised of more Americans than Europeans. Of course there are more Americans posting. If you don't think many other nations dislike America and it's people, you are the naive one.

I didn't say America is perfect, but it is certainly one of the "easiest" nations to live in. I understand that we aren't perfect, but to me imperfection doesn't translate into evil?

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. You wouldn't do anything unless you had some kind of advantage to it, unless it's your family or a close friend.

And yes, it is fucked up that US is trying to act as a policeman, that is, if it's really the case. I think they are just interested in trying out new military tactics to further establish their power.

Actually the only Americans who give a shit about what other countries think are Bush and the pussies in congress.

The majority of us really don't give fuck what you all think. However we are entitled to defend ourselves against verbal attacks aren't we. Oh, or is that just one more thing that makes us devils...

Tell us about Finland Mika...

If you have people with differing values inhabiting the geography of the US, you wouldn't have the same results.

You just proved my point.
There are dozens of people in this board who keep repeating the same sentence "don't give fuck what you all think"

Why do you assume I give a fuck? I don't
I don't give a fuck about what America does, yet I see comments like yours lol

Thats for sure. A month or so ago , during the jazz festival , I seen a band from NEW YORK take the stage and the asshole singer spent the first 10 mins. of the set running the USA into the dirt (in 3 languages) . I walked away , I had come to hear music , but instead I got a leftie lecture on world politics .

An American with values?

Americans cant agree on jack shit, to declare we all have a common system of values is a joke.

I love the principles this country was founded upon, unfortunately we have strayed from those principles. Badly.

Your post fits a spam type I dubbed "Controversial Topic" where the poster writes a controversial post about a person or a widely held belief or other mainstream issue and proceeds to bash it. Other posters wittingly or unwittingly join in and the thread grows. You create the longest thread for the week and you win a free DVD. But better than a DVD, if your topic is controversial enough and gets bumped long enough you get thousands of webmasters checking out your message and looking at your SIG.

I have no problems with clever marketing. I just find great amusement in pointing them out and categorizing them.

For other amusing spam post types, check SleazyDream's thread on "Intelligent Spam"

So how many nations have you lived in?

Americans cant agree on jack shit, to declare we all have a common system of values is a joke.

I love the principles this country was founded upon, unfortunately we have strayed from those principles. Badly.
Just because you have had bad experiences with people who lack values does not mean you can dismiss the whole American population as lacking values.

I've spent time travelling in the Third World and in Europe and I can tell you that America's values do exist and they reveal themselves in how we deal with individual merit, with societal rewards, with individual worth. In the Third World, you are only as good as your father--everything is familial or tribal. I know I am generalizing but this seems to be the general theme. In Europe, there seems to be an overreliance on the government to solve problems, to distribute wealth, to create justice. In the US, we are more individualistic [sure there's a lot of sheeplike behavior as well but the ideal remains that of the individual striking out on his own--doing it yourself, etc. Compare that with China's Filial Ideal--the ideal is of the obedient son who serves his parents and his family tradition], we are more pragmatic, we are less fatalistic, and we believe in Will. I'm not going to sugarcoat, the promise of these values have historically paid off more for some people than others. But our system allows for debate and recent history shows how America's promise has been redistributed and constantly debated.

Believe it or not, these are the values that built our institutions and our economy--an economy and society that people the world over want to become part of.

The fact that Americans can disagree and not resort to Civil War every election year speaks volumes about Americans' shared value in the importance of law in settling disputes and preserving a civil society.

There is no joke in the fact that Americans have struggled to create a nation free from the sectarian and ethnic warfare that tore up other European nations.

Our commitment to keep pursuing the promises embodied in the US' founding principles is a shared value. Of course not everyone espouses or supports or are even aware of these values but they hold America together and keep it prosperous. I would the first to say that it hasn't always kept close to its ideal but it sure as hell tries.

Blind patriotism is bullshit but its worthwhile to realize that America is an unfolding process, with many hypocrisies, debates and disagreements. But one central belief--a country based on freedom of the individual to remake himself regardless of his past. America took people who were tired of what they had in the Old World--tired of the class strictures, tired of the religious strictures, tired of the limitations. America gave them a forum to expand, experiment, grow, and prosper. As America takes in differing people, it changes with each wave, with each era.

America may not be perfect, and it has a lot of blemishes. But I am damn sure I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Yes, it was Russia was walked into Berlin.

Russia lost so many people because their country was invaded; The Germans made it all the way to Moscow before they were stopped. Russia lost so many because it was the only way for them to fight; They threw overwelming numbers at the Germans because it was the only way to stop them.

And where did Russia get it's weapons from to fight the Germans? It's guns, tanks, and airplanes? You got it - The US.

Of course, while Russia was busy fighting the Germans, the US was busy fighting both the Japs and the Germans.

Of course all of this doesn't take into account that if the US didn't beat back Japan..... That Russia might be owned by Japan right about now.

You can say what you want about the US and it's policies. The US isn't always right, but I don't see fucking Finland aid to Africa - or for that matter - sending fucking grain to Russia who can't seem to feed themselves. What the fuck has Finland done for anyone? Or any other country? The US is sending aid to nearly every other country on the map, yet we are the bad guys.

And we don't give a shit about your oil ether. We have our own; It's fucking Europe that doesn't seem to have it's own. The US is tired of a bunch of fucking morons running around with rags on their head shooting each other.

You're obviously forgetting the other nations... such as Australia, who fought the Japs in WW2.

40,000 Australians died fighting them and over 22,000 Australians were Japanese prisoners of war.

So no, you didn't do it on your own.... as much as you'd like to believe it.

If the Japanese had attacked Russia in 1942, WE might be speaking Japanese west of the Mississippi, and German east of it. And if the Japanese had attacked Russia in 1942 there is not a single friggin thing we could have done about it.

Sure ... we provided the Russians with some weapons to tide them over until they could reassemble their factories and get them up to full production, but by mid-1943 they were supplying the majority of their own weapons, including aircraft - and their tanks were a lot better than ours. Mostly what we gave the Russians was transport. And we dithered and dallied all over Africa and Southern Europe, leaving the Russians to bear the brunt of the battle pretty much alone.

First of all, "everybody" doesn't hate Americans, and generally what is perceived by Americans as anti-Americanism is simply refusing to believe everything the U.S. government says. In 1977 I spent a month in Lisbon, which was having its first free parlimentary elections since the '20s. There was an awful lot of anti-American sentiment in the cafes and bars - but it was toward our Government, not toward Americans personally. Portugal had a dictator who was not communist, so he was okay with us - in spite of the fact that he ran a brutal regime that squashed any and all political opposition. The feeling was very much the same in Spain at that time.
