If we were truly so terrible then why are there so many people trying to get in? Life is better here. Standards of living high, it is simple to get a basic education, and only here do people actually have the hope of being successful. The middle class in this country support the rich and the very poor by paying high taxes. Mostly to fund glut in entitlements for the poor and pork projects for all members of government. I'd agree that most Americans don't have a clue but we do value freedom, freedom of speech, and human rights, something that is a unique value system. I don't know of another country where these values are held as high as the US. As far as the brand name and such that non-Americans have access to, those products are probably the staples of their entire economy and are probably produced locally which provides jobs.
Sometimes it is fun to be an American after Sept 11? I can't and wouldn't want to turn on/off my citizenship like a light switch. I'm very proud of who I am and where I'm from. I pitty that you are taking the narrow view. However, I would fight and die to protect your 'freedom' to speak your views even if you wouldn't return the favor.

freedom in america ??? hehehe.. i have been living there, in a middwest town in southern illinois near the indiana border. very kind people, but freedom???
freedom compared to china, russia, yes that might be true, but in my fucking country the highest politicans or bankers can travel by train, they don't have to be scared by terrorists, and if you say that switzerland is fucking tiny, smaller than one of your bigger cities, yes that might be true!! but our banks still control more private equity than everyone else!
man, i like america, i like americans (unlike labret does). but some folks overthere are fucking clueless and naive. i have seen interviews of gi's in afghanistan! fuck, they really believe they help someone else besides their own government which want to secure that oil pipline in northern afghanistan.
i tell you, i am fucking scared of the us goverment. the us should start to respect international treaties then it would get back political respect. the us could make a worldwide peace, but some governmental fucker just dont want.
