"What Europe gave the world in the last 100 years?"
Well, a lot actually. =========== "Almost every American has some direct relation to WWII." Yup. Most that I know. My grandfather served in the Navy. I have his medals. ============ "we have bigger and better bombs. " THIS is what makes America great. :-) BIG EXPENSIVE WEAPONS! (NOTE: Hockey makes Finland great. That is good too.) ============ "In 1997, the United States gave $6.88 billion in non-military aid to developing countries." Generous. Don't forget the military aid! Having a large population shouldn't be held against a country. You a reader of the globalist? http://www.theglobalist.com/DBWeb/St...x?StoryId=1102 |

I spent 5 months in so called EU 3 years ago. I am 35 years of age and only once in the states I had been stoped by cops for speeding. In those 5 months I was stoped about 20 times without any reason, and asked for ID. I think France is the worst. |

I have a better idea. Since you dont like US stop using any US based program. I am sure you dont need bad US dollars. You can start your own European based programs and cheat each other, since most of the cheaters are Europeans. |

I have been to most EU states and never had these problems, I own real estate in several states so I get to travel alot and never was I stopped for speeding. Maybe you shouldn't drive 100 miles per hour? How about the blacks in the US that get stopped without a reason? Are they innocent too? |
America is just a word but I use it.
Language keeps me locked and repeating. All work and no play makes fletch a dull boy. America is just a word but I use it. Language keeps me locked and repeating. The whole politics of WWII is a hell of a lot more complicated than most Americans realize. We sat over here watching the facists overthrow the elected government of Spain and did nothing. We watched the Finns attacked by Russia and did nothing. We watched the French and others be overrun and did very little. |

I don't use any sponsor programs except for 1 which isn't US based, so sorry. |

"the middle class supports the rich on its taxes" .. that is pretty far from the truth... the rich supports EVERYONE .. 95% of the taxes here are paid by the uppoer 10% of the income population. HOWEVER ... a lot of what he said was dead on. And for those of you non-US citizens who think that we are caught up with brand names and all that shit, can you please tell me why every FOREIGN familiy I see in the states is clad in an incredibly outlandish display of brand names. It's like I'm walking by a fuckin store! Asians, Middle Easterners, Mexicans, Europeans .. everybody blows their wads on brand name clothing for god knows what reason .. That's why Costco is blowing up, cuz you can get cheap ass name brand shit for almost nothing ... One more thing. for those of you posting on this board talking about how shitty it is here in america ... please consider this... In your country you'd probably be lynched for publicly saying half the things you do on here. |
Off the top of my head?
The radio (assuming marconi), theory of relativity, birth of quantum mechanics, neon lights, von braun's rocket, discovery of penicillin, aspirin, cathode ray tube, modern submarine, sold first automobile (benz), cloning (Dolly, Britain). Porsche, Ferarri, mercedes, BMW, ... Amazing number of great mathematicians (see Hungary), physicists, etc. many of which left Europe during WW II. Many more I am sure. I have a poor memory. OH! And the BIKINI! |

Drew Pal,
I have never seen a more intelligent person than you, you must have had your education at Harvard university. Obviously not at Oxford university because that one is based in Europe..... and well we all know how you feel about Europe. |
These European pseudo-intellectuals crack me up.
"The problem we have with America is that their government thinks they know what's best for the whole world. But they don't *I* and my countrymen do!" The problem with perceptions is that you are always locked in your own. American's (for the most) believe their perception is right and people from all around the world (for the most part) think their countries perceptions are right. Sometimes they agree and sometimes they don't. When you break it down this way the only difference is power. Plain and simple power. To be helpless when you think/know you're right is a horrible thing and often leads to a hatred of the "oppressor". Pretty simple acutally -- but what do I know... I'm only an American living in the Eastern Bloc. |

You are the one on this board posting you anti american BS. I dont care about EU. If your fucked up system works for you, it's OK with me. I dont call for stoping European companies enterin our market like you do. "OHHH Those bad American Fast food restaurants are poisoning us". You dont like their food dont eat there. But your socialist mind can not take that people may have a choice to eat there. Listen, we dont want your socialist system on this side of the ocean. We dont wanna pay high taxes. We dont wanna pay high prices. We dont want your Kyoto and your other "smart fucked up ideas". |

"if you compare cars to Death camps I rest my case."
Drew, I don't think many people blame Nazi death camps on "Europe". That's something like saying Canada invented the light bulb because it is in North America. |

Rights that are set forth by the Constitution of the United States are neither questionable nor should they be debated by uninformed quasi?socialist Europeans. (This is not to say that all Europeans are Socialists.) For one reason. It's not their business. I don't plan on BEING European, So I dont give a crap about their socialism? Just dont try to export it here.
ControlThy I dont eat in fast food reastaurants. But I want to have a choice to eat there if I want to. I dont need some bleeding heart liberals telling me how to live my life and what is good for me. |
Talking about relatives in the war ... my father had a little disagreement with some law enforcement folks over some high-school bullshit in the summer of 1940, and he decided that joining the service was going to provide better accomodations than other options being discussed. Now, he listened to enough radio and read enough news to know there was a war coming (even if the Republicans in the Senate didn't), so he enlisted in the Coast Guard in the hopes of helping defend the Mississippi River from the Nazis.
At the train station when he was getting ready to ship out, his recruiter said, "Oh, by the way." Now, anyone who has been in the service knows that's not a good sign. The recruiter proceeds to inform my father that the Coast Guard becomes a part of the Navy during a national emergency, AND that Roosevelt had already declared the emergency. By March or April of 1941 my old man was on a WWI-era destroyer escort hunting submarines in the North Atlantic off Newfoundland. He also made two convoys to Russia and was close enough to the beach on D-Day (a DE is a very small ship) to see what was going on. |

You seem so frustrated when it comes to Europe, I can't imagine what Europe has done to you to activate such strong emotions? Well I am going for a walk, lets hope I can safely make it across the street without being stopped by a police officer! |

Can any of us honestly say how we would have acted living in a Nazi occupied country when we cared and loved our family and friends?
Self-preservation of self and family causes a lot of interesting decisions. Everything sounds so easy talking about something that happened 60 years ago to people we don't know (for many of us). |
One last question for Mika:
If Finland even has a military, have you served in it? Let's not rest on the laurels of what our grandfathers did. If you love your country so much, and are so patriotic, have you fought for your country? |
Everyone doesn't hate americans.
|

I haven't fought for my country, the ww2 was the last war Finnish were part of so I haven't had to. I like to keep it that way. I like peace. |

Most people dont hate everything american but some of it with fair reason i think.
Ive heard americans express good understanding why. The way corporate and political america conducts business is percieved as bullish and provocative. I know this is how americans behave and compete nationally but its considered rude and agressive in many parts of the world. When your in a group you need to show some consideration and understanding for the others needs and position. Especially if your the strongest part or you will look like a bully that pursues your own interst over the corpses of others... The behaviour that the strongest decides, will give rise to a lot of hate even without any envy. Only leaders with some humility are ever really loved.... |
