Paramount and Dreamworks choose HD DVD over Blu Ray
Theres hope for my HD DVD player yet!
They claim lower production costs AND higher quality made them choose HD DVD format over Blu Ray ![]()

Fuckin' Sony and their proprietary formats. I hate them for that, even if they make great stuff. I'm pulling for HD-DVD.

Blu-ray outsell HD-DVD 2-1. I get paramlunt doesn't like moeny. Anyways even with this deal 23 of the top 30 grossing movies of 2007 will be available on Blu-ray. 17 of the top 30 will be available on HD-DVD. Paramount could have help end this war faster. Now they will be the cause of comsumer confusion and frustration. Especially when their titles like Blades of Glory and Norbit are available on blu-ray. HD-DVD only movies with this new deal. Current op 20 movies of 2007 Shrek the Third Transformers The Bourne Ultimatum Knocked Up I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry Blu-ray only Spider-Man 3 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Ratatouille Wild Hogs The Simpsons Movie Live Free or Die Hard Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Ghost Rider Meet the Robinsons Real fucking good for consumers. Thanks Paramount. I predict people just sticking with DVD even longer now. |

Probably so you could watch the movies that are HD-DVD, but that's just my guess.

You're not getting my point. if you decide you're going HD and you already have a HD player in you house in the form a PS3 then you're going to go with that. I don't see many people spending $400 on a HD-DVD player to see the few movies that come out on HD-DVD only

Well, my super nintendo wont play anything! hehe, thats my most recent video game system.
But I spent some rewards points on the HD DVD player and some movies to go with my TV. Was a decent deal and looks good. Although my audio needs an upgrade now.. it never ends no matter what dominates.

Also Blockbuster has already stated they will rent blu-ray only. I rent movies I don't buy them. If I had a HD player it would be the same way. Now if my local video store only has blu-ray for rent which way and I going to go? |

Well it's no biggy. When I bought it, it was much more even-steven between the formats, and I'm still happy with it. I like that the player enhances the quality of all of my existing regular DVD's, and I've kind of fallen off the gaming wagon over the years I guess.
I'm opposite, I dont go to the theater, but I buy movies that I want to see rather than rent them, lol. If I get stuck, I'll get the player I need.

My whole point is the last thing we need is another VHS/Betamax war. Paramount isn't helping that. If they had held out within 18 months Universal would have had no choice but to put movies on blu-ray and the war would had been over. Not to mention it's jusb plain dumb to have SOME of your movies on both and some on just HD-DVD. I know Sony movies are blu-ray only. I know Universal movies are HD-DVD only. I know Warner Bros movies are on both. Now with Paramount? Who fucking knows. Fucking retarded. |

Again, I'm no expert but I do know you need far more specialized equipment to produce Blu-Ray let alone the licensing costs. It's more expensive to produce for companies.

I have both and the majority of my buys have been on HDDVD. If there's a choice between the two, I usually lean towards the HDDVD line as well. The picture quality seems to be a bit better, I like the menu system better and some of the movies play in SD on regular DVD players.

I'm just saying Blu-Ray is more expensive to reproduce. Because Sony seems to have a need to do things their own way. A current DVD production house can put out HD-DVD with only minor modifications as opposed to Blu-Ray.

Personally I hate hd-dvds, they are much more temportmental, the scratch easier etc. I've yet to have a blu ray not play, while I've had 2 hd-dvd movies not play.
If I have a choice on a movie, I buy the blu ray. |

There are only 1.8 million PS3's in North America to date.
So you are expecting the PS3 to move 1.2 million units this December?

I think they like this war keeps prices up there. If the war was over hd dvd or blu ray players would be selling for $100 bucks and I would be able to get blu ray or hd dvd writer for a reasonable price.

Blu-Ray, when used with a TV with 1080p is the best video I have ever seen. I do not know if 1080p is needed for the HD DVD tho, anyone know offhand?
