You always bring it back to the US .... funny how normally you are the one to say foreigners have no saying in US politics ... so why do you have any in the Venezuela politics ....

So all you have is blah blah?

List what freedoms we do not have. I know you aren't real swift an all, but where did I say I gave a crap about Venezuela and their politics? If I recall correctly I was saying the left holds it as the beacon of what America should be, and I pointed out an example of what they do to take away freedoms that we do not in America.

Now back to your list of what freedoms we DO NOT have in America.

Well they do exist...but primarily from city...county...and state government. There are way more than 10 million...ordinances...and laws on the books and most of the ordinances and laws deny someones freedom to do something. I personally have been quite irritated by some of the city...and county...ordinances and /or laws I have bumped into over my life span.

I think you are probably referring to federal law...and of course there are federal laws...that deny someones freedom to do something, but not as many as the cities...counties...and states have.

Well surely there are. For instance I dont like the fact that I cannot park a vehicle in front of my house from 1am to 5am in the morning. They have the law to make sure that people dont clutter up the street. Ive talked to many officials trying to get the law changed. As it is now they write a ticket with no warnings for 20.00. So im working for them to do a warning system. Why? Because it is simple to accidently leave a car on the street and forget to pull it make in the driveway. Ive got 2 tickets so far and it pissed me the hell off.

Now would I call it losing a "freedom"? no not really.

I assume to allow the street sweepers to sweep or for some other practical reason...which does remove some of the irritation...but I do view it as a loss of freedom...though a minor loss.

I used to be heavy into real estate. I once bought a piece of property within the city limits with the intentions of building on it at some point. Having other irons in the fire...it took me three or four years to get back to this particular property only to learn that...due to city/county ordinances having been changed in the interim...I could not build anything on the property. The properitys value dropped to zero. I was out attorney fees over the next couple of years battling with them but ultimately lost. To add insult to injury I received a ticket and a fine from the city's abatement dept for allowing the property to have to much wild growth on it. I consider it to be a loss of freedom not to be allowed to build on property that I owned and had to pay annual taxes on.

I eventually deeded the property to the city and guess what...a few years later the city built a childrens park on the property. When I learned that they were going to build a park...I requested that they name the park after me...and they denied my request.

CARACAS, Venezuela - Television personalities embraced, wept and broke into chants of "freedom!" before the cameras Sunday as Venezuela's most widely watched channel prepared to go off the air at midnight under a decision by President Hugo Chavez that opponents called an assault on free speech.

Radio Caracas Television, the sole opposition-aligned TV station with nationwide reach, was being forced off the airwaves because Chavez refused to renew its broadcast license.

"We are living an injustice," said Eyla Adrian, a 35-year-old presenter, her eyes welling with tears. "I wish that tonight would never come."

Chavez said Saturday he was democratizing the airwaves by turning RCTV's signal over to a public service channel.

"That television station became a threat to the country so I decided not to renew the license because it's my responsibility," Chavez said.

Flame on!!! hehe
I wonder why all of the American Left doesn't move to Venezuela? It is a workers paradise.

Nope no street sweepers. Culdasac in a subdivision, so not even through traffic.

What about the War on Drugs? People in our industry being stopped at the Canada/US Boarder? The fact that they have laws against email spammers but not regular mail spammers and call centers? The fact that you can no longer smoke in a bar/public indoor space? The fact that you have to pay for health care?
This list could probably go on. Don't kid yourself; freedom is slowly eroding in North America. Maybe the major freedoms are still in place (freedom of speech, assembly, etc.) but I would venture to guess that it will not be long until the public is fighting for those rights which are guaranteed to us.

I certainly wouldn't feel free sending smut via U.S. mail to folks in Utah.

Or are we only talking specifically about federal freedoms, and not state freedoms?

Bzzzzz wrong answer.

I did not say Anarchy, I said freedoms. Your freedoms stop where they intrude on those of another person. Canadians not being allowed in the U.S. is Americans losing a freedom?? Healthcare was never, and never will be, a guaranteed freedom. We do not live in commie, or socialist land down here.

A number of these "major freedoms" have already been removed Brad - some very recently.

A couple more - a US citizen does not have the freedom to simply live elsewhere without his/her ass being chased by the IRS. Tax filings are required by law for all US citizens - whether they have lived in eg Europe or South Africa for 50 years. Only two/three extremist countries, including the US, don't offer freedom to their citizens to live where they like without accounting annually to their country of citizenship.

US children are now the only kids on the planet who don't have rights as defined under the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

The right of Privacy is virtually non-existant - the degree at which personal data can be accquired on any US citizen is a farce. Citizens can't simply travel where they wish without questions/monitoring/permission - eg Cuba.

Generally, tho depends on the treaty, US citizens are barred from legal recourse from treaties signed by their govt. Federal laws block options for a citizen to have his case heard under International Treaties ratified by the US govt.

It is ironic that the subject of this troll's thread is over Chavez not renewing the broadcasting license of RCTV and that is the basis of US troll whining, when, in reality, all Venezuelan citiizens have all the above rights - along with plenty more not mentioned

Ok, then what is your definition of Freedom? Besides the basics like speech and assembly, what do you consider to be a "freedom"?

Fact: some drugs are illegal in the USA. Are you suggesting that this is not an example of the loss of freedom?

By the way...when you say "Your freedoms stop where they intrude on those of another person"...do you not think that there are a lot of examples where even the use of free speech intrude on others? I think you meant some thing like: Your right to punch someone else in the face ends at the other persons nose.

Oh and while we are talking about freedom, lets talk about economic freedom...I think that you will agree that most countries including the US do not enjoy this freedom.

Dont want to pay taxes? Umm renounce citizenship and get citizenship in another country. Simple

Convention of the rights of the child? Show me what isnt already followed by the united states without having an outside law regulating us?

Quote:
The Convention acknowledges that every child has certain basic rights, including the right to life, his or her own name and identity, to be raised by his or her parents within a family or cultural grouping and have a relationship with both parents, even if they are separated.

The Convention obliges states to allow parents to exercise their parental responsibilities. The Convention also acknowledges that children have the right to express their opinions and to have those opinions heard and acted upon when appropriate, to be protected from abuse or exploitation, to have their privacy protected and requires that their lives not be subject to excessive interference.

The Convention also obliges signatory states to provide separate legal representation for a child in any judicial dispute concerning their care and asks that the child's viewpoint be heard in such cases. The Convention forbids capital punishment for children.

The Convention is child-centric and deals with the child-specific needs and rights. It requires that states act in the best interests of the child. This approach is different from the common law approach found in many countries that had previously treated children and wives as possessions or chattels, ownership of which was often argued over in family disputes. In many jurisdictions, properly implementing the Convention requires an overhaul of child custody and guardianship laws, or, at the very least, a creative approach within the existing laws.
We already do all of that. Yet you have it come off as if we are abusing the children of our country. Foolish old fool.

International treaties? It is our country, and we do not need outside counsel to settle disputes. We have our own legal system thanks.

Typical same old shit from you. Big words that mean nothing.

there are a lot more than two parties in the US.

Here are some of the bigger ones, not counting Independant.

Constitution Party (formerly the U.S. Taxpayers Party) (1992).
Democratic Party (1792, 1820s ? present).
Green Party of the United States (1984).
Libertarian Party (1971).
Republican Party (1854).

At last somebody makes sense ...

It is a bit like if Sticky would claim that restaurants in Montreal are shit, that the ones in Nashville are better ... Then he would ask me to list the restaurants in Nashville ... I never claimed anything about that and don't give a fuck...

AS for US freedoms, I couldn't care less ... Americans can do whatever they want in THEIR country, then can kill every second born, paint houses pink, put to death rapist or pornographers ... none of my business ....

As for the Bzzzz , shows the level of maturity ....

Show me a 3rd party that has received even ONE electoral vote in a presidential election in the last 50 years. The last successful 3rd party is the GOP. That was 150 years ago.

Hmm...that would be the fault of the voters as there are 30 or forty different parties to vote for. The voters apparently prefer two of the parties. I would like to see that change but I do not think it will in my lifetime.
