How do you treat smaller webmasters/Noobs?
So how do you treat smaller webmasters, or even just new guys coming into the business? I can see how some people can be annoyed by them, but really everyone starts somewhere, and chances are you started from the same position. SO whats the point in ignoring them? It is veyr true that if you help the little guys one day they may become something really big, and they wont forget that you were there to help them when they were small... so whats your view on this, do u tend to try and help the bigger fish in the market, or do u take the time to help out the small ones to, and do some business with them?

				 | Yeah, I agree, it is more about what the person comes across like than where they are at this minute. I'd expect someone at it and successful for a long time to act a little bit differently from someone just starting out, but one of the coolest things about internet business is how fast things can happen for someone smart and hardworking.

				 | I totally agree Amelia, I've been on the board for maybe about a month now if that, and I've gone from a complete nobody, with no experience gainign the respect of a few great great guys, and working for/with someone that is highly respected in the industy. And the thing is I got this opportunity bu presenting myself as who i am on the board and taking the chance to stick my head out here, luckily people respected that and took me under there wing so to speak.

				 | as a complete noob with no computer background, and very little online marketing skills, I must say this board has been very helpful. It seems the assholes dont say anything when you ask a question and those willing to help give some good advice.

				 | I'm still a noob after 1 year in the biz but I live by the golden rule, and majority of the veterans sincerely want to help anyone who is honest about how they conduct themselves in life and in business. There are some great people in this industry! I've learned a lot and have gained some true friendships in such a short time.

Just as a side question, but do you think that this industry is the most helpful relative to say mainstream ventures? I really think it is, & havent seen the kind of support and coutiership in other industries. Even on campuses people are always out to better someone else & barely ever willing to help out someone whos struggling.

				 | i treat everybody the same - some people i know are worth millions and some are just trying to make a living - i respect and admire the ones who make the big money fairly honestly and the struggling guy who is trying to find his way. i'm only suspicious of newbs who want everything given to them and whom I suspect once they have what they want will be assholes.

I'm a noob, and have found that most veterans are very helpful, however, every board has one or two that just have to make their rude comments for no reason, but I have to admit, I've loved the help I've received on this board! Tia |

				 | Lets be totally honest here. The odds on a newbie coming in and sending decent traffic in any quantity is VERY long. The odds on the guys still being around is also VERY long. So how much do we need to invest in getting that traffic, supporting that guy and what's the return? The established guys don't need a lot of time or support and will return a profit. The newbies need a lot of support and are unlikely to return a profit. So how much can we afford to invest in them? No excuse for being rude because someone is a newbie and no excuse for painting a rosie picture of his chances of being around in 6 months time. Just because you need another guy throwing galleries at a TGP or putting up another blog. The industry is 10 years old, and more, the time for newbies making it with no money, experience, skills or talent is over. If that sounds tough then fine. But if it were not true there would be no newbies. Basic traffic generation would go in house. I can employ people for $30 a day or less. I'm better off getting them building galleries for others to submit rather than submit them myself like a newbie. |

Are you saying there is still serious money to be made by newbies? And let me guess where you think they can make it. This is business and it's tough for any newbie to make it in any business unless they have money, experience, skills or talent. Could be porn or window cleaning or rocket science. I'm presently helping a newbie on ICQ. Always willing to help. | |

				 | Although I don't talk to a whole lot of newbies... sometimes they randomly hit me up on icq. If they have a couple questions i'll answer them and be friendly, but if they want a step by step walkthrough on what I do I ignore them. I don't walk into a store and ask the manager exact details on how they conduct business, where they advertise, etc... it doesn't fly anywhere else, why should it in this industry? I had to learn on my own, so should they... Not to mention, if they do exactly what I do then they're taking a chunk of my pie. If you're running an affiliate program I can see more reasons to help newbies, they could (although very unlikely in my experience) turn into profitable webmasters someday. |

I really wish I was around in the golden days because I have been doing this for a few months PART TIME, maybe 1 to 3 hours a day (counting surfing time on GFY) and making low $x,xxx a month. I started with NO $$ and NO skills. Noobs can do it, with nothing, they just have to think of a way. Could you make it now if you were a noob?

Do I think new people can make money.. sure, just as much as someone who's been around for a while. New blood is always a good thing. new ideas are always a good thing. Is it still the wild west and you can cash in by putting up 2 galleries and nothing else? NO fuckin way. If they want to work for it, sure its there.

				 | In my previous company, the senior management used to say "SO FUCKIN WHAT? IGNORE THE LITTLE FUCKER, he doesn't bring in THAT much traffic and is not worth talking to". So fuck it! I say - treat everyone equal, who knows which seed will grow into a tree.
