:mad All about this RSS bullshit!!!

When do the webmasters will understand ?
RSS syndication is going to ruin your business.
You're all grabbing the same RSS feeds again and again and posting it without any mofication. You're thinking you'll put the sign-ups to autopilot but all you'll get is a HUGE BAN FROM GOOGLE.

doesn't anyone hear about content duplication???

everyday at least 4-5 threads are asking for RSS feeds. you'll just ruin your business. it's redicilous...

LOL...ever think that people use rss as a base content and re-write it before posting?

and let me just say one thing in regards to the duplicate content myth.....associated press....have any idea what they are and what they do? and the millions of sites that use them?

I had someone taking a feed from one of my blogs and running it on his blog. I just left a comment explaining how that was a bad idea and he quietly removed it.

that's myth you believe. do you know anything about authority sites???
AP site will always get higher PR from any site that is publishing it.

most webmasters don't even care about rewriting it. just post on auto pilot.

I've always had this question myself. If you use an RSS feed as is but also add your own original blog posts you won't run into that problem, right?

now that I don't think is fair use....rss feeds from sponsors is one thing, but grabbing another blogs rss feeds and using them is shady

I am no expert by any means, but I have never had any issues using ALL rss feeds, so I would imagine a original blog with rss posts scattered in there will be just fine

Ok cool, I had always heard the same thing as far as the duplicate content issue and assumed it as fact. The blog I'm working on is going to be using feeds mixed with my own original content.

Yup, that's an effective way, write yourself and fill it with posts from feeds here and there.

Duplicate content doesn't mean you get banned, that's bullshit, it just means the page with duplicate content may rank worse. It only becomes a problem if all or most of the posts are from one single sponsor feed, and even then it rarely leads to a ban...it just ranks shitty.

Duplicate content on the same domain is by far more dangerous and since many people don't know how to get their templates and link structure setup correctly, 100% self written blogs are in danger as well. Why ? Because every post is indexed via 3 or 4 different URLs...and that's what hurts.

Many webmasters even let google grab www.domain.com and domain.com because they don't use 2 simple lines of code in the .htaccess, so they will get like 8 different URLs for every single post (worst case). No surprise if they get banned.

It´s a good idea to rewrite your content as well as mix it with original content.
Duplicate content filters are not a myth.It sucks to have your whole site thrown in to supplemental hell.
If anyone is looking for a feed rewriter click here. I´ve been using it on a couple of sites now and so far it´s working great.
Sometimes the Markov outputs some hard to understand shit but in the end all you want is the surfer to click through.

If you have the same content that 50 other sites have google will try to take a guess, using domain authority, as to what the original site might be.The rest just get thrown in to supplemental or they rank horribly.
Duplicate content filter is that: a filter.Your site wont get banned or penalized, it just wont rank.

Wordpress sucks at this. You have duplicate posts everywhere: on the archives, the category pages, tag pages, etc.
Again what happens here is that google just picks the version of the content that it thinks might be the original one on your site.
That happened to me on my first blog: all my domain.com/post/feed pages where getting indexed and the actual posts where nowhere to be found.

The software does it using a Markov rewriter. It replaces some words with synonims and moves sentences, etc.
Sometimes it outputs some gibberish but its an automated process and if you are running 10 blogs its a real time saver.

Another important thing I forgot about WP that sucks SEO wise is that you have to check if your theme has the same meta description tag on all pages.
Either write unique ones (which is the best solution) or dont use the description meta tag and let the bots decide the snippet of content they are going to use.
The last solution is not good because (as I learnt the hard way) sometimes the designs might have, for example, your side menu text first. Then all your descriptions in your google serps will have the menu text in them. And a good description on the serps might be what gets the surfer clicking to your blog.

I use this plugin that lets me write the meta description tag, or if I´m lazy it just takes the first sentences of the post for the description:
http://guff.szub.net/2005/09/01/head-meta-description/

The last solution is not good because (as I learnt the hard way) sometimes the designs might have, for example, your side menu text first. Then all your descriptions in your google serps will have the menu text in them. And a good description on the serps might be what gets the surfer clicking to your blog.

I use this plugin that lets me write the meta description tag, or if I´m lazy it just takes the first sentences of the post for the description:

yup, I use the AutoMeta plugin, it fucking rocks

RSS syndication is going to ruin your business.
You're all grabbing the same RSS feeds again and again and posting it without any mofication. You're thinking you'll put the sign-ups to autopilot but all you'll get is a HUGE BAN FROM GOOGLE.

doesn't anyone hear about content duplication???

everyday at least 4-5 threads are asking for RSS feeds. you'll just ruin your business. it's redicilous...
lol thanks for a great laugh, rss feeds make me thousands a month

I've never once used a rss feed on any of my sites with not editing / rewriting them first

That´s the thing, webgeek is talking about the people that think they can throw up a blog with a bunch of feeds, then just sit back and watch the traffic roll in.
And google is getting smarter everyday, I´ve had rewritten articles getting thrown down to 30+ serps on some of my mainstream sites.
Check out this google patent on finding near duplicate content:

I assume you guys talking about rewriting the content are doing this automatically somehow..? Otherwise why not just write your own posts? :confused

Tender, check out http://www.rssmagician.com/ . I haven't tried it but I would imagine the output is clunky at best.

The thing with rewriting using RSSMagician or any other content rewriter though, is if multiple people use the same script, then it puts you right back where you started, no? Multiple people throwing the same RSS feed through the same algorithm = duplicate content. I mean I'm sure the script is configurable but .. ugh. You might as well just import all dictionary words greater then 5 characters into a database, pull 10 at random and sprinkle in keywords
