Opinion: Seems to me like a lot of people are rolling over on .XXX
Don't know..... This time around it seems like people either don't care, don't believe anything will happen, or are secretly behind the scenes making their preparations to take advantage of the situation at everyone's expense.
What are your plans? Say .XXX happens in February, what the hell are you gonna do? Last time the uproar was a lot heavier, I hope the case is that this time people are taking the approach that many of us are and emailing, and posting public comments to ICANN instead of yelling and bitching on boards. From what I have heard, the proposal was re-written and really sweetened up to make ICANN wanna love it. You tell me. ![]() |

I damn sure don't want to have to buy $100 domains, or what ever they are charging.
In the perfect world where I knew ISP or whom ever wouldn't block it then I'd say yea go a head and support it. However being this isn't a perfect world fuck .XXX I see nothing good to come out of it.

little birdies are telling me its a done deal. no doubt that the proposal when it was rewritten was sweetened in icann's favor as well. any fool in their right mind can see that .xxx won't keep kids from porn, seeing porn, stop cp, or stop predators from meeting kids in aol chat rooms and kidnapping them. these are the legs this whole campaign stands on.

Maybe we should insist on developing a community to lump thriving fucking assholes together...something like??. (.thievingfuckingscum).
I can think of a few I would like to put in there ![]() I agree with everyone. This .xxx is not going to change a thing. The only thing it will change is the amount of money this ?Son Of A Bitch? has that is proposing and pushing the issue. To use children as a platform for monetary gain is shameful and this worthless jizz bucket should be ashamed.

So let me ask, if this passes, which I am totally against, how will the owners of .com domains be able to secure the .xxx version. What is going to prevent domain claim jumpers so to speak? Has any of this been discussed?
Has anyone of these wrothless fucking assholes at ICM thought about this? I think they are just to jump happy and all they see is the money.

Last year there was mention of a list then, but the person did not post it. I am sure there is a list and the ones on it are to chicken shit to come out and voice their approval of this .xxx scam.

Nikki, it is simple: Who has the money? the big programs. The big programs are all very quiet on this because they know they will be able to hit out and get some really good real estate up front, and effectively drop the size of the affiliate business by a huge amount. They can just aobut buy out an affiliate for $75 per head! Amazing stuff.
If .XXX goes through, I would expect to see more programs go private, with a very few friends trading traffic program to program and the rest of us will be shut out all but completely. That, IMHO, is why the programs aren't complaining too much. |

if you guys don't wake the fuck up and fight this shit - you might end up in the same turmoil and hell-storm that the online gaming community is currently going through
are the issues different - yes absolutely but under lying it is the same goal - to confine, control and if possible stop the right-wing groups are working hard behind the scenes, and are much better organized than everyone here

The simple solution would be to refuse to do business with anyone who isn't publicly opposed. But hey, if people will do business with sponsors stealing traffic via Zango, the possibility someone may steal a domain from you isn't going to bother very many.

This is all I could get off of their web site...
The .xxx Top Level Domain Overview The .xxx Top Level Domain (TLD) has been proposed for responsible members of the online adult entertainment industry and those that supply products and/or services to it (the Online Adult Community). Only Members of the Community will be eligible to register .xxx domains that resolve (that is a name that Internet users can type in and have their computer display a Web site). ICM Regis-try (ICM) will offer individuals and entities that are not Members of the Community, an opportunity to register non-resolving domains if such registrants are concerned about potentially abusive registration. A separate non-profit oversight body, the International Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR) will work with the stakeholder community to develop a code of practice applicable to all registrants. The code will address practices such as unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent marketing practices; the use of malware, malicious code, spoofing, phishing; practices designed to attract children or suggest the presence of child pornography; unauthenticated use of credit cards; violations of law regarding the sending of unsolicited promotional email; or misuse of personal data. Registrants will be expected to participate in a simplified labeling program operated by the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) that identifies their site as an adult entertainment site. Current status of .xxx application On 10 May 2006, the ICANN Board rejected a draft contract governing ICM’s operation of the .xxx TLD. We have scrutinized the reasons given by Board members for making the decision and are satisfied that the principal concerns expressed (including ICANN having greater liability if it were to pass the application) are unfounded. Accordingly, we are continuing to address those concerns in order to obtain approval of a revised contract. We are hopeful (but of course cannot guarantee) that these efforts will prove successful and will lead to the introduction of the .xxx Top Level Domain. We have invested a lot of time and effort into this initiative and are determined to see it through to completion. Start up plan The proposed contract describes ICM’s start up plans in advance of general registration. ICM intended to roll out the plan elements following contract approval, with general registration commencing approximately 6 months later. In order to provide an orderly process for members of the registrant community in the event of ICANN approval, and to use our resources effectively during this appeal period, ICM has decided to undertake the first phase of the plan (the “Industry Reservation” period) now. Disclaimer ICANN has not approved the .xxx domain, and may not do so in the future. Furthermore, the final terms, if any, on which the .xxx domain shall operate will be subject to further discussion with ICANN. Accordingly, ICM will offer industry members the opportunity to submit reservation requests free of charge. All we can do is keep fighting..................................

hate it. hate it lots.
I don't see how .xxx is any more effective to filter than FuckedInTheAss.com or something similar. If the .com domain is clearly adult they should just leave it the fuck alone.

I guess the problem with 2257 is that people care because they think they can go to jail for running their thumbs TGP, but .xxx can have worse, but more long term effects... so they don't care as much about it Unfortunately for some people it's hard to grasp what .xxx could mean for the industry

I may just make it to xbiz, I want the opportubity to tell Lawley to his face, in front of everyone, what a peice of shit he really is, even if it gets me thrown out of the show. I would much rather sit back and watch 40 - 50 people beat his fucking skull in while we all enjoyed a cold beer. Now that would be worth twice the admission price

This is who we are. This is our "industry." There's no real fear of publicly supporting .XXX, because you'll have plenty of people ready to do business with you. Ready to accept your banners. Ready to accept your Players Ball sponsorships. Etc.. What might be a good idea, is to get those with mailing lists to attach some information regarding how to oppose .XXX and why. It can come from Xbiz. It can come from AVN. It can come from all the sponsors that send out FHG emails or New site announcements, etc... They could post a notice after logging in to check stats.

I have been quite on this subject, why do you think so many people are quite? Cause we don’t care wtf happens either way. I don’t support it – and I care less who does or doesn’t – or what happens with it. Maybe that is why people are so quite, cause only a few people seem to care either way.
Domain extensions and entire domain business has always been about one thing, money. So why would this be any different? You don’t like the people? I’m not sure really. Most seem to have a “fear” due to a lack of understanding on this subject. First the GOV and nobody else will ever force us to use the .xxx extension, that would be an entirely different fight all together. So since this is the case, this extension is just like any domain I put my marketing time into. I am Interested in knowing why you don’t support .xxx – What are the real reasons? Again, I don’t care if people are using dirty marketing tactics or are trying to make millions from us.. It’s a business – What are your real, fact backing reasons for not supporting it?

I have several gripes and will list them in my letter to ICANN. One I have already mentioned in this post...well two. If this Lawley fuck was not interested in money then why doesnt the price of domains remain at 8-10 dollars in stead of the gouging price of 70 -80 bucks. Like I said before, it is all about lining this Son Of A Bitch's pockets. He could give a shit about protecting children.

there are so many points to consider here, so many different small aspects of it, heh bottom line, ICM are hypocrits since they claim to have both the adult industry support (one look at GFY and you see its a bullshit claim) and also care about children's safety when surfing online they try to convince the media, the government (the US government is against .xxx since Christian gropus are against it because they feel it will legitimize porn and increase the number of pornsites!) and ICANN that adult industry supports and that there's a demand for .xxx and that .xxx will ensure online safety for children they are basicaly saying that a part of the adult industry (they call it "Responsible adult industry") - so f.e a big paysite network will suddenly abandon their 40 .coms paysites and switch their adresses to .xxx They forget that the cost of such operation would be already a few $k (the .xxx domains would cost about $70-75 per domain, 10 times more expensive than .coms) and the benefits would be non-existent. The responsible adult companies already can use voluntary labeling systems, while the responsible parents can use "Safe surfing programs" or just disable adult content in their browser.... so .xxx will not solve anything the companies who will actually register .xxx will not use them - they will register them only that noone else registers them (f.e. their competitors, or domain squatters) and also, that in case if .xxx would be made mandatory, they would own their domains .xxx would also mean a legal battle, if there is a paysite bigtits.net, bigtits.com, bigtits.co.uk. and bigtits.de then who would get the .xxx adress? there are soooo many different scenarios..... Im not saying .xxx will be a tragedy for adult biz.... (could be just an unneccessary cost) but we can't say that it wont.... if ICM convinces everyone that the "Responsible pornographers" are the ones using .xxx, then f.e the credit card companies may decide to proces only for paysites under .xxx iffor.org/images/IFFOR_Org_Chart.gif here's the organisational chart of those who will establish the "business practices" under which the .xxx paysite ownrs should operate - if they don't follow them, they may use their domains oh and most likely you could say good bye to teen-porn as well.. you can read on iffor.org the business practises to know why

Thanks, I appreciate the information. Like you said I am all over this and it sure has my ass chapped. ICM will only use the .xxx preregistration as a means to show how much the industry is behind them, when in reality people are just trying to cover their asses and protect their .com domains. These worthless fucks at ICM did this last year to prove they had support. This in itself should tell everyone this ICM and Lawley can not be trusted with their nefarious ways and children are the last thing they are trying to protect. Lawley is trying to protect his investments. He could give a shit about children.....

As others have pointed, the worse problem I see is all us running to register .xxx to protect our .com making the ICM succeed on their .xxx sales.

The government will be the last to judge on this and I am sure they will not allow it to go through. Hopefully they will tell Lawley and his band of merry men to keep walking. ICANN is not the law and neither is this fucking asshole Lawley from ICM

First .xxx hasn't passed - it may very well fail even though they beefed up the proposal. With the gov, Christians, and the others against .xxx it stands a good chance of not going through or getting a massive backlash if it does.
I can see and agree with an argument that our Gov and Christians and part of the adult industry doesn't want it - then it simply shouldn't be an allowed domain extension. However with the adult industry I don't think group people are against it, at least not enough to take in time to voice an opinion through email. While they may not like the overall idea, they don't continue to do business in fear. 2257 is way more of a danger to us as an industry. What is being found out is "we can comply" with almost all parts of the new rules - however its our daily webmasters that can't.. I would be much more afraid of 2257 than .xxx

yep, if this is about protecting kids from porn they would allow those with the .com's to be able to register the .xxx versions for free. of course the problem comes with those who own the .nets and such but still, i don't see why we should have to shell out so much money for something that doesn't benefit us at all.
