the other one asks 'why wouldn't this be a date?'

so what is the difference between it being a dinner and a date? and should it be defined prior to going out to dinner? LOL

generally - I would say if they ask YOU and ONLY you - that means they want to spend time with YOU. If they ask you and a couple other people - that's different but if it's clear they ask YOU and you accept knowing it's JUST going to be the TWO of you and no one else - and you KNOW that - then USE YOUR BRAIN. That's a statement that this person wants to spend more time with YOU on a personal level, and by agreeing you are making a statement that you want to spend more time with this person on a private personal level.
