The "spazzing" that you are referring to is the rocking back and forth I'm guessing? That is actually from the medication, not Parkinson's. My great uncle had it and the medication he had to take would really fuck him up somedays, sometimes worse than the Parkinson's itself. He didn't have as serious a form of Parkinson's as Michael J. Fox has.

I don't know what you expect from the man. He has an incredibly debilitating condition that essentially destroys his way of life. Did you want him to wait until he was in his best possible state to do the ad? Or did you want him to show what he has to go through on a daily basis? I don't give a shit if he looks like he did in the ad or that interview with Katie Couric, I feel sorry for anyone suffering from it.

The funniest part of this whole thing is that Michael J. Fox has supported Republican candidates just as much if they support stem cell research.

The key question is, have you seen him move like this BEFORE these comercials aired and Rush commented?

I don't think I've seen Michael J. Fox on TV since Spin City. So no. But I have seen someone with Parkinson's, and if you think that is bad, you have no idea how bad it gets.

You are failing to acknowledge that MJ Fox wrote in his book that he stays off his meds from time to time so he will shake more for effect when in front of subcommittees on Parkinson's. Yet, you say how dare Rush say he is acting or staying off of his meds for effect to further his cause?

Rush said he was ACTING. His words "He's moving all around and shaking, and it's purely an act.".

I don't doubt that MJF stayed off his meds during the subcommittee. But I wouldn't call that shaking an "act". I also know that the swaying you see in the ad is not from not taking your meds, it's a side effect of the medication. The swaying is the medication, not Parkinson's. But that's just the opinion of every neuroscientist they've had on the news in the past couple days.

Like I said, he looks like shit in both the ad and the TV interview. The guy has a horrible condition and we have people calling it acting.

I agree it wasn't acting. But do you agree that if he didn't want to appear sick, they could have edited it, shot it on a day when he was not so shakey (by his own admission he has those days)? He wrote that he intentionally stayed off his meds during hearings. So now you don't believe what he wrote in his own book?

In the TV interview he says he was shaking because he DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH medication, and in the commercial he says the shaking was caused by TOO MUCH medication.

Also you have not shown me a video of Mr Fox BEFORE the actual commercial that shows him "spazzing out"(for lack of better words). Please find me a video of this and I will concede that maybe he isnt acting until then I can say I am not alone in thinking that he might have been overacting.

No, I said I believe what he wrote in the book. I don't know what that has to do with his commercial. The swaying and the shaking are different. The swaying comes from the medication while the shaking comes from the Parkinson's. He has said that he overdoes his medication before interviews so that he can speak clearly. Without his medication, he has a very difficult time speaking coherently.

I guess they can edit the commercials to make him look healthy, but why? The man has Parkinson's, shouldn't we see what his life is like? Reality is sometimes harsh.

Rush is a comentator. He commented on the commercial, and that he thought Fox did it (swaying) for effect by either staying off his meds, like he said he sometimes did or was acting(which I disagree with him on). Do I feel sorry for him? Yes, I hate that he has the disease. I don't hate Fox or Limbaugh. I think Fox is well aware that he wanted to make people feel sorry for him so they would vote his way. Limbaugh pointed out that he believed this was the case either correctly or incorrectly so.

It's great to have freedom of speech, and not have it squelched because the guy/girl who is making the argument has a disease, lost an arm, or a son or daughter in a war.

Sure we can see how he lives. But we didn't see him arrive in his Limo with his entourage. We saw a sick man say vote for my guy so I can get cured. If I thought the guy he wanted me to vote for would actually make a cure possible, I would certainly vote his way. I'm all for stem cell research and cloning.

I can't speak for him, but I know that my great Uncle would sway a lot when he would take his medication. Not taking the medication would cause tremors, but he would become very lethargic and have a very difficult time moving. The medication in such high doses causes dyskinesia which is what you see when he moves around involuntarily.

As for videos of him before the actual commercial, I don't have any. I don't follow Michael J. Fox too closely and have his video library on hand.

I don't know what you are trying to get at. Are you trying to say Parkinson's isn't that bad? That most guys like Muhammed Ali who show similar symptoms are overreacting and faking it? Every neuroscientist they've had on has said that he looked just like a Parkinson's patient in his commercial. But perhaps Rush Limbaugh and yourself are privy to more scientific information than them.

Rush knows he has Parkinson's. Do you think Rush said he didn't have the disease? Listen to it again. Rush said he believed he made it look worse by not taking his medication (Like again, he said he had done in the past), or was acting. If Fox is guilty of not taking his medication to look more sick in the past, then why is it so outrageous that someone would accuse him of it this time?

The medication causes the swaying. The argument should be that he took too much.

And how do you make a disease look worse? Whether he swayed or not, it's a fucking horrible condition.

This is exactly what Rush said:

"In this commercial he is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He is moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act."

While he said this outrageous statement he imitated Fox by moving around and shaking around.

THEN he goes on to call FOX shameless! Sheesh, was a fat fucking hypocrite.

I don't think it was an act. Rush knows he has Parkinson's. Listen to the entire clip, and don't just cherry pick the "purely an act" part.

The shaking was not an act, but was left in the video for effect. Otherwise, he would have shot the video on a day when he wasn't shakey, as he has said some days he's not, or edited so it didn't appear that he was trying to pull heart strings so his candidate can get elected. He had not taken his medicine in the past so he would look sicker, by his own admission. He has the right to do it, just the way the one legged guy standing at exits with a bucket and a sign does. It's just a little creepy that he uses his illness to get a guy and girl that he likes elected IMO.

Everyone agrees that it is a horrible condition. Even Rush, listen to the clip.

You would normally think a person would medicate or not medicate so he would look less sick on video. Not in this case, the sicker he looks, the more likely people are going to feel sorry for him and vote his way.

Actually, the shaking isn't a bad thing for Parkinson's sufferers. It means that the medication is working. If the medication wasn't working, he wouldn't be moving much at all and probably unable to speak clearly. I don't know how you tell a Parkinson's patient to hold off till they can look less sick.

I can't believe I'm arguing the character of Rush Limbaugh vs Michael J. Fox.

You have one guy who has raised over 72 million dollars for Parkinson's research. He opened the Muhammed Ali Center. He has brought worldwide attention to a dehibilitating condition.

Then you have a hate mongerer who attacks kids on the air, abuses prescription drugs, and goes on sex tours with his buddies in the Dominican Republic.

I'm sorry that I don't consider MJF the "shameless" one of the bunch.

He had no problem in the Arlen Specter video promo not shaking didnt he?
Mr Fox is simply a pawn in a big fucking game just like Rush so dont get your panties in a bunch that someone would dare criticize a fucking cripple.

I think ya might be right there Tony

If the only thing to find that's worth a "discussion" is whether or not Mr Fox did or did not take medication - some folks have too much time on their hands.

The fact is Fox has Parkinson's and is attempting to do something about it - he already has in the form of a foundation and raised millions for other sufferer's. Trying to rip him apart is pathetic.

The opinions of a sicko commentator (or lying douche bag) are totally irrelevant - Limbaugh does not have Parkinsons disease tho he obviously has another. Has he ever taken any constructive action to help others? Doubt it - he's too busy trying to be a sensation and earn a dime.

I did watch the video @ mediamatters and I quoted exactly what he said. He did go on to give an either/or to Fox, saying "either he's off his medication or he's acting". But during the part I specifically noted that fat son of a bitch hypocrite imitates Fox's condition and starts spazzing around like a buffoon. Just hearing the words he spoke weren't very damning but watching that assfuck actually shake around and wave his arms in a air is what pissed me off.

The only time I remember him saying anything about Chelsea Clinton was... He said on his TV show that the White House had a cat but did everyone know they had a dog too and then held up a picture of Chelsea, as far as the pages in the Mark Foley controversey they were over the age of 18 last time I read.

It sure takes an honorable man to insult a 12 year old girl like that on syndicated radio. The Foley controversy had kids that were under 18. They may be over now, but he said that when they were kids, they were at fault for allowing it to happen and making it a childish prank.

I can't believe you are defending Rush Limbaugh's character. We are talking about the war hawk who calls Democrats pussies but couldn't fight in the war because he had a cyst on his butt.

She was 13. They were 18+.

The odd thing is that Rush had nothing to say when Fox was doing commercials for Republican Arlen Specter in favor of stem cell research. Weird.

The pages were not 18+ at the time of the Foley scandal. Rush himself even said so on his show. They were underage.

MJF is a class act. Rush is a pathological liar who didn't research this issue at all.

Possibly worse than making fun of someone's disability is saying that it's imaginary. That is not to mock someone's body, but to challenge a person's guts, integrity, sanity.

To Rush Limbaugh on Monday, Michael J. Fox looked like a faker. The actor, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, has done a series of political ads supporting candidates who favor stem cell research, including Maryland Democrat Ben Cardin, who is running against Republican Michael Steele for the Senate seat being vacated by Paul Sarbanes.

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told listeners. "He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act. . . . This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting."

Limbaugh, whose syndicated radio program has a weekly audience of about 10 million, was reacting to Fox's appearance in another one of the spots, for Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill, running against Republican Sen. James M. Talent.

But the Cardin ad is similar. It is hard to watch, unless, for some reason, you don't believe it. As he speaks, Fox's restless torso weaves and writhes in a private dance. His head bobs from side to side, almost leaving the video frame.

"This is the only time I've ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has," Limbaugh said. "He can barely control himself."

'A shameless statement'
Later Monday, still on the air, Limbaugh would apologize, but reaction to his statements from Parkinson's experts and Fox's supporters was swift and angry.

"It's a shameless statement," John Rogers said yesterday. Rogers, Fox's political adviser, who also serves on the board of the Parkinson's Action Network, added: "It's insulting. It's appallingly sad, at best."

"Anyone who knows the disease well would regard his movement as classic severe Parkinson's disease," said Elaine Richman, a neuroscientist in Baltimore who co-wrote "Parkinson's Disease and the Family." "Any other interpretation is misinformed."

Fox was campaigning yesterday for Tammy Duckworth, a congressional candidate, outside Chicago, when he alluded to Limbaugh's remarks. "It's ironic, given some of the things that have been said in the last couple of days, that my pills are working really well right now," he said, according to a report on the CBS2 Web site.

After his apology, Limbaugh shifted his ground and renewed his attack on Fox.

"Now people are telling me they have seen Michael J. Fox in interviews and he does appear the same way in the interviews as he does in this commercial," Limbaugh said, according to a transcript on his Web site. "All right then, I stand corrected. . . . So I will bigly, hugely admit that I was wrong, and I will apologize to Michael J. Fox, if I am wrong in characterizing his behavior on this commercial as an act."

Then Limbaugh pivoted to a different critique: "Michael J. Fox is allowing his illness to be exploited and in the process is shilling for a Democratic politician."
