Maybe the answer to your question and also the response to your comment about "hypocrites" is the same: that Europeans have much more experience of war and know that ultimately creative map drawing and violence only lead to more violence.

The Balkans, since you mention them, is a good example of how conflicts can simmer for generations if not actually resolved. Come to that, arguably WW2 might never have happened were it not for the manner in which "peace" was made after WW1.

Oh great you just announced to everyone that you finally found out what causes war to take place . I'm sorry , but the situation here is a little more complicated than taking examples from ww1 peace agreement .
Many believes , including me , that if the allies in ww1 would finish ww1 the same way they finished ww2 , which means cutting the head of the snake and not leaving it wounded so he can recover and declare war again , in this case ww2 would never take place .
I would also like to be pacifist , to believe that if you get slapped by someone , give him your second chick and he'll become your best friend . History taught us that sometime you have to fight back in order to have you enemy realise that he'll better have peace with you rather then keeping fighting and losing . Every American does not have European ancestors. Of course it depends on what you define as ancestors, if you want to go back thousands and thousands of years, we all come from the same place.

Typical to call it a "NATO" attack on Kosovo.. one of the the single biggest bombing raids in history was organised and perpatrated by Clinton and the American forces. but if it makes you feel better that NATO flags were deployed on US equipment then i am happy for you

just as it is a US/Israel attack on Lebanon not just Israel....

There were US military planes landing with laser guided missiles on their way to Israel landing at a civilian airport in Scotland weeks before the so called kidnapping of the two Israeli soldiers that allegedly started this conflict
