That's actually partially true, somewhat misleading though. There was a bank in texas I think, that ran a promotion where if you opened an account with them you got a gun for free....

I love children who spout off and pretend its fact.
Son, most of the world don't own guns because its against the law.
Oh, and "generally" they don't have a need for guns but when they did, they "generally" died.

The subject never was about children and fact - it's about guns.

Most of the world don't own guns because they have no use for them.

Most of the world have never even thought about being in possession of a gun in their daily life.

Please don't make gross assumptions about other nations that guns are "against the law". You never were an international jurist - and never will be.

This type of fact is not dependent of your nations beliefs, but reality.

Instead of nitpicking - try addressing the problem you already have and not attempt to have some expertise over other nations:

Gun facts:

In one year, firearms killed no children in Japan, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada, and 5,285 in the United States.!!

* Every day, more than 80 Americans die from gun violence. (Coalition to Stop Gun Violence)
* The rate of firearm deaths among kids under age 15 is almost 12 times higher in the United States than in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
* American kids are 16 times more likely to be murdered with a gun, 11 times more likely to commit suicide with a gun, and nine times more likely to die from a firearm accident than children in 25 other industrialized countries combined. (Centers for Disease Control)

shut the fuck up. you make it sound like everyone who owns a gun walks around with it in there waistline. i bet if you looked deeper into those statistics that 95% of those killings come from low income housing areas. where the only way they know how to survive is from selling drugs or ass. that in itself is a whole different can of beans that probably should be addressed first.

Why don't you shut the fuck up??? There is good reason to.

It never was about anyone owning a gun and assuming they walked around with this in their wastline.

It also was never about the "social status" the killings come. This also, applies across the board in other nations.

The facts speak for themselves - it's a pathetic story.

If we take your assumption to be correct - it's an even worse story.

It's also clearly evident some folks don't just "walk around with it in there waistline" - they kill people instead.

Look bud, I?m just a realist and I tell it like it is.. Compare Canada to America bud, what is the massive difference between our two nations? Population for sure, but hardly diversity. They have a great ethnic mix of peoples yet they don't seem to be blowing off people's heads left and right like us colorful American folk... so why exactly is the reason for that? It's quite simple really, it's because we have black people I wish we didn?t have to own firearms to protect ourselves from the shaven gorillas, but it?s something that we deal with everyday. You get used to it after a while? it becomes second nature.

i love your stats too. most of which are pointed out to make the US look much worse then it actually is. when in actuality every country you posted above has far less the population then that of the United States. which obviously wasn't pointed out and wouldn't have made a couple of those numbers quite so drastic had it been done per 100,000 people.

not to mention that according to the international death rate (deaths/1,000 population) that every country you posted above has a higher death rate then that of the US. more then ONE FOURTH (25% for you fucking idiots) more likely to die in one of those countries then the US which is a close second behind canada. which only comes out to be 5.4% more likely to die in the US then in Canada. a far cry from those piece of shit countries you already posted above.

stats are fun shall we continue? now like i said shut the fuck up. and go crawl back in that hole under that rock from which you came out of.

USA compared to Germany, France, Canada, and the UK on murder:

USA: Around 4.2802 per 100k are murdered.
Germany: Around 1.16461 per 100k are murdered.
France: Around 1.73272 per 100k are murdered.
UK: Around 1.40633 per 100k are murdered.
Canada: Around 1.49063 per 100k are murdered.

Hmmmmm.... you are only 2.7x more likely to be murdered in America than you are in Canada. =(

Sheesh... is this some kind of defense??

You now wish to nitpick "my" stats?? They are not my stats but from your own govt orgs - specifically the Centers for Disease Control. Gimme a break.

Read already posted stuff - that did account for pro rata population.

Sample...

US popluation is around 4.5 times that of the UK. On a pro rata population basis you are then comparing 85 UK deaths to 5285 US deaths. DUH???

What exactly are you trying to say??? Tell me the US has no firearms offenses next.

Screw this.. some people just can't read or have a denial of any facts...

If you have some problem with the figures - contact the CDC - not me.

American children are more at risk from firearms than the children of any other industrialized nation. In one year, firearms killed no children in Japan, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada, and 5,285 in the United States. (Centers for Disease Control)

Quote:
In a single year, 3,012 children and teens were killed by gunfire in the United States, according to the latest national data released in 2002. That is one child every three hours; eight children every day; and more than 50 children every week. And every year, at least 4 to 5 times as many kids and teens suffer from non-fatal firearm injuries. (Children's Defense Fund and National Center for Health Statistics)

School Safety

* Between 1994 and 1999, there were 220 school associated violent events resulting in 253 deaths - - 74.5% of these involved firearms. Handguns caused almost 60% of these deaths. (Journal of American Medical Association, December 2001)
* In 1998-99 academic year, 3,523 students were expelled for bringing a firearm to school. This is a decrease from the 5,724 students expelled in 1996-97 for bringing a firearm to school. (U.S. Department of Education, October 2000)
* Nearly 8% of adolescents in urban junior and senior high schools miss at least one day of school each month because they are afraid to attend. (National Mental Health & Education Center for Children & Families, National Association of School Psychologists 1998)
* The National School Boards Association estimates that more than 135,000 guns are brought into U.S. schools each day. (NSBA, 1993)

Children and Gun Violence

* America is losing too many children to gun violence. Between 1979 and 2001, gunfire killed 90,000 children and teens in America. (Children's Defense Fund and National Center for Health Statistics)
* In one year, more children and teens died from gunfire than from cancer, pneumonia, influenza, asthma, and HIV/AIDS combined. (Children's Defense Fund)

Yes, and sadly, its the one who never shuts up. You.

Your facts are bullshit.
you want to cite Japan? you can't own a gun in japan. Their fucking olympic shooting team has to practice outside the country because of their gun laws.
yeah, comparing them to a country where everyone has a gun is brilliant.

you know, not many people are killed by cars in antarctica either. What is that shit hole you live in going to do about its death by auto rate when its so much lower in antarctica?

Debby, at the end of the day, it all comes down to you being an American hater. You're so insecure about the decision you made about where you should live that you've constatly have to make up stories proving you did the right thing.

Of course it does - that's the only thing you can feed off and something that is of great relevance to you. Personally - I don't give a shit.

Just pay your taxes and check up Bush's ass for some ray of sunshine - and don't forget to shoot some kids as a quaint national custom

your countless anti-American posts say different.

Once you stop hating yourself for your life's bad decisions, it will be easier to not hate Americans for their good decisions.

We have guns because our fore fathers who founded this country knew the importance to citizens to protect themselves from a tyrantical goverment. When only the police have guns, its a police state.

If I thought for one minute that it was possible to have an intelligent conversation about guns in this forum, I'd be more than happy to engage in it. But, I don't.

So I'll simply say that when I lived in the US, I had an extensive gun collection and carried every day, everywhere. Usually I carried a sidearm and a back-up pistol.

In four years in the Marine Corps, all spent as a police officer and criminal investigator, my sidearm saved my life, other lives and prevented crimes more times than I'd care to remember. In 6 years of carrying a personal protection sidearm, my pistol saved my life twice, my girlfriend's once and protected my business once too. I used my weapons for target shooting, competition shooting and hunting too.

If that's not enough justification for you to shut the fuck up about something you have no concept of and simply agree to disagree, then talking to you about it is a waste of time anyway. Go back to whatever entertains you and leave the subject alone.

If you want to know more, I'll be happy to take whoever wants to go shooting at Internext in Florida. Just hit me up and let's go put little holes in paper targets. After that, we'll see where you stand.

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cr...ers-per-capita

The US is 24th on that list of murder per capita. Why aren't you calling out the other 23 countries ahead of them?

You also have to take into account that a very small part of our population does the murdering. 1% of our population is responsible for half the murders in the US. 99% of the places in our country are very safe to live and have no problems with murder. We just have very small areas that are bad. Stay out of there and away from those people, and who cares?

Having freedoms have consequences. Our country lets us defend ourselves against our government. Most other countries don't.

Reason being the thread is about firearms - not murder rates. Murders are committed by more than just firearms.

Hmm, I have a feeling this is one of those topics that I should waste my time on. It's too easy to stereotype the American gun ownership and too easy to point to statistics that can have a certain skewed aspect to them.

Each state has it's own rules on gun ownership, some states are very easy to possess and own guns, while other states have pretty stringent regulations on the topic. Now you would think that the statistics in the states that have loose gun regulations would be the states that had the most violent crime, but it's just not the case.

Vermont has one of the most liberal gunlaws out of all 50 states. Anyone can carry a concealed weapon, there's very loose regulations on the topic, yet it's one of the safest states to live in with one of the lowest crime rates. Also if you look at the low crime states, they all have fairly relaxed gun laws.

Also, there are countries with very loose gun regulations, Switzerland, Israel, Finland, etc, and they all have relatively low crime rates (there's some other countries in the mix as well, but I can't remember them off the top of my head). So, gun ownership doesn't necessarily mean an increase in violence and jumping to that conclusion is essentially flawed.

As with anything though, stupid people, do stupid things. Every year 40,000 people are killed in car accidents here, 3.2 million are injured...maybe we should ban cars as well? lol.

Why do Americans have weapons? We're a country born from revolution, it's in our Bill of Rights, and part of our history / heritage. When the government for whatever reason can't protect us, we protect ourselves, and it's a tradition more or less that's followed since the revolution, the expansion westward, etc.

Also, there is a thing regarding marksmanship as a sport. Personally I like old weapons, so I do have a recursive bow I like to use for target practice, and I do also throw knives for target practice as well (basically like darts only with a knife, lol).

One final thing, I don't own a gun, so my view on this topic isn't because of a vested self interest.

Yes, it is. However the most common argument or complaint about firearms is murder. In this very thread, YOU stated many stats and facts regarding guns and their kill factor, if you will. Murder and guns often go hand and hand in these arguments, and you know it

Its because 100 years ago and as recently as 50 years ago in some parts of the US, a gun was a daily part of life for protecting your farm and hunting for food.

So what is your problem with firearms if it has nothing to do with murder rates?

Why do so many Americans say "because we can"

What do they mean exactly with "because they can" ?

If they referring to "gov and money" that allow them to buy one, then it's a ridicolous excuse...

If the gov allows you to kill illegal inmigrants you don't like, would you do it?

Pretty retard for a 1st world country..

I think USA is stil a 3rd world society, but wiht money...

Might I ask what you have against firearms? Is it the death rate? Do you propose a ban on guns because it causes murder?

I can't believe you are asking those questions. Seriously.

It's probably hard to understand because we live in totally different cultures.

Here, even Gun toys for children are banned now..

And I think it's normal to associate guns with a bad thing (In a normal and decent country)

Correct me if im wonrg, but I think in USA you grow up with the gun culture in your head, and that's why you consider guns just as if they were like having a car or having a TV. Very sad.
