i pulled my credit report last night

and im a little pissed off. I used that service mycreditkeeper.com for several months now relying on the information they provide. well what a fucking rip off.

i pulled my score directly from experian and it was 50 points higher than mycreditkeeper and i pulled the reports 10 minutes from eachother. dont tell me a score drops 50 points bcause of 2 credit pulls. it doesnt.

i had a 699 with experian and 640 with mycredit keeper.. the good thing is, is that experian is usualyl the lowest score out of the 3 main ones for me.. so im avging in the 700-720 range

word up

Wow a whole 700? Average? WOW.
That is unbelievable.

Considering mine is in the 760s.

Trey. It took you 3 years now to get your score up?

700 is doing pretty damn good.... most mortgage brokers rely on Experian from what I've noticed

Experian has me at 680 because of a tax lien that's not mine. It's not my SS#. I have even tried to pay it. My attorney tried to pay it. But since it's not my SS#, it can't be done. It' been on there almost 10 years now. I've heard it drops after 10 years but I've also heard tax liens stay on forever. I guess I'll find out at the end of the year.

My others are in the 760s and besides my house and car, everything else is paid in full so it's never really affected me. More just like a thorn in my side.

I use myfico.com every once in a while but you can get one report free a year - two a year here in GA.

Scores are easy, keep inquiries to 3 a year or less.
Credit cards and open lines of credit to 50% ratio of balance to limit.
And there is the 750s for scores.

if you ever become a baller and make any money what so ever you will learn thats not the case and almost impossible to keep your inquirys to 3 a year.

and maintaining a 50% balance on all your shit is nearly impossible too. its not even worth the time to pay attention to because of the time frame between the credit card companies reporting to the egencies and your payments fluctuate too often.

are you stupid?

Maintaining 50% balance is of course impossible when you buy things you can't really afford. Thats totally true.

I am fairly certain that the credit reporting companies and Fair Isaac & Co (FICO) do not alter your FICO score for checking your credit reports. Many suggest checking them monthly anyways and often third party companies will check them on occassion.

I personally check all three every month and none have dropped at all because of it. I think some may be confusing checking your reports with credit inquires where one is trying to obtain credit.

Yeah FICO don't drop or penalize for pulling your own, because you can't use your own with any institution.

It all depends on when they pull the report. I put up to $5K a month on my credit cards (used to be a 3 times that in the good old days ) and pay them in full every month. But many times I've pulled my report and seen high balances on my cards, when in reality, they could pull the report a few days later and see zero balances on all the same cards.

Well keeping the debt ratio low is what FICO is looking at.
If you have two cards with a 10k limit for instance. It would look better to have both at 5000.00 each than one at 10,000.00 at any given time even if you pay them off in full each month.
That is why I have one high limit card that I never charge anything on ever. It always stays at a zero balance with the full credit available. Then I typically never go over 25% of my balance on any one of my other cards.

I just charge on whatever card is giving me the highest reward for what I'm buying. I'm not sure if this is good or bad but I got a $15 gas rebate from my AAA card last month.......

BMW declined me for a loan due to "no credit history" (I'm 27, and paid cash for most things growing up), but when I paid cash for the thing instead, they keep calling offering test drives of new models.

Credit scores are gay!

Yup they are insanely gay, until you desire to buy a house or something.

credit scores are very gay, and the credit industry someday needs to be revamped because its complete bullshit. but sadly we need it for many reasons.

like ASM said above... for travel, house, online purchasing (we would all be broke without the credit system and the ability to use a credit card to buy porn) etc etc

a necessary evil

Oh and a little credit score tip for the parents or soon to be parents out there.

When the kid is born add them as a authorized user on a high credit value card. Just never give or tell the kid the card number or even that it exists. Your credit score will jump to them and by the time they are 18 they will have 18 years of positive credit history with at least one company (you can add them to more than one card). Then also when they hit that age, you let them finance a car or get their own card and remove them off your cards (if you wish). They will have perfect credit to start life with and it will save them countless amounts of money through their life if they maintain it.

I did the first one cash, and the second one got VERY lucky with an understanding bank and a large deposit.

Now, I prefer apartments for "everyday living" -- a lot more flexible if you move around a lot. I get tired of being in one place.

Thank you.

BTW on a side note, if anyone wants to go into cahoots on some mainstream fico score / credit sites let me know. I have a ton of great domains and just no time to develop them. Everyone from myfico to equifax has affiliate programs too.

I signed up for a service through myfico.com that monitors my score. I tell it when I want to be alerted, and I get an email when those scenarios occur.

I have bought cars on credit for the last 3 years but always paid double payments which keeps the credit score high, when they get paid off and closed off.

Houses same deal, opened up credit lines that are in good LTVs and scores go back up by 60 points or so in 3 months.

But keeping scores in the 720s+ is a necessity to have good borrowing power at the banks.

Where is the information on that? I had a $75,000 car loan that I paid $5,000/month on until it was paid off -- and it didn't bump my credit score ONE bit. Where can I read about how this affects it?

edge, when you close a loan with a bank it bumps your credit score. The bump was in the 3rd months report for closed accounts.

One very important thing I discovered recently while pulling and cleaning up errors on my credit reports:

The three credit bureaus DO NOT all use the Fair, Issac (FICO) scoring. Only one of them -- I think it's Equifax -- actually uses FICO. The others use their own proprietary algorithms that can be WILDLY off from the FICO. These imitation scores are known as "FAKE-O" by many people in the business.

I couldn't figure out why my own scores were so low with Trans Union and Experian, and I finally read this info, went to MyFico.com (run by Fair, Isaac), pulled my three bureau scores again through MyFico, and the results were between 40 and 70 points higher than the fake scores offered up by the bureaus themselves.

Also, a consumer inquiry absolutely does not affect your score in any way. I pulled mine about 5 times in 3 months getting various errors corrected, and while it shows internally as a "disclosure to consumer" it doesn't show to anyone else pulling the report or affect the score. HOWEVER, if you have a mortgage broker or car dealership -- or, for that matter, a bank where your business is seeking a merchant account -- or anyone else pull your report, it will ding your score (usually between 2 and 6 points, depending on other factors).

Oh, right. I thought you meant that it bumped it because you overpaid every month on the note -- I was going to say .. my credit should be sky-high. I prepay almost everything out 1-2 years, in case I forget to write checks.

Thanks for the info.

You are correct partly. They have two different types of inquiries now. One which is checking credit by you or someone like a landlord. The other is a hard inquiry which is done when you buy a car, get a mortgage, etc. The second one I believe hurts you if it happens too much.

Credit scores are gay!
I had the same problem.. Actually still have it..

I went online to check my report a year ago. I couldn't since I didn't know how much the payment was for an auto loan I had received when I was 4. I also had no idea what bank gave me a mortgage at age 5. Turns out my dad with the same name keeps having his shit put on my report with his middle initial an alias on my report and mine on his... So at 34 I had a house I purchased 29 years ago, bought and sold 4 cars since I was 4 and have had charge cards since birth.

So I call them and they basically ask me the same fucking questions... I can't answer them since I don't have a fucking clue. After talking to a supervisor for 10 minutes he finally sends me the report. It took about 6 months to remove all of the shit that wasn't mine.

Then I notice that a card I defaulted on back when I was 23 is on there 4 different times. I had my wallet stolen so they replaced them both. But one number is actually my social security number and not the card number. So I have 2 sets of 2 cards saying I didn't pay them when it should be one. Took 4 months to get the bank to report it correctly. I paid them their money and guess what, the score only went up 5 points. Since paying them was a negative item (it is paying a negative item so it is in itself also a negative item WTF WTF WTF??????)... So it cancelled out the benefit of removing the other 3 accounts...

I had NUMEROUS credit inquiries. Which brings up why I even looked at my report in the first place. My dad was getting a loan at the infinity dealer and they declined him because of shitty credit. He always pays shit on time and never holds a balance very long on revolving shit. Pays cars and house on time. He is like WHAT? They show him MY REPORT! WTF? How in the hell does this shit happen.

I am just 10 points from 700 now... And it is an uphill battle the whole way because even when I paid something off, it actually hurt me as much as it helped me. Ohhh well...

I owe nobody a dime and I still can't get above 700... Credit is bullshit. I make more money than lottery winners do with a 26 year payment system and I still can't buy a fucking new car.

(edit) Actually I can buy a new car which brings me back to the beginning. I found a used car on the lot that I loved and bought it in cash. They were like, Ohh shit, sorry, didn't know you had money just lying around... We can sell you the new one for about twice the price of that one and if you pay it in cash we can possibly add in some free upgrades for ya... FUCK YOU! Just give me my damn used car and I'll be on my fucking way, asshole.

Sucks when you make 8 times what the loan guy makes and he declines you...

The credit scoring system is pretty much retarded. Paying old college bills sends my credit rating down for some reason. But getting more credit cards and spending on them makes it go up. I've given up playing the system. It's a lot less stressful to just pay my bills off that I owed, and pay what I have now on time. Hopefully shit will even out over time. I'm just tired of having to take a calculus class to figure out what fuckin bills I should pay and when.

That is the worst part. I was making real good money out of college and looking for apartments. I had some old college bills I had that I think I let get into collections before paying them off. So the company renting out to me tells me my score is too low. I was like "fine, I'll pay 3 months up front, I don't care". They say they can't. I say I'll pay for the whole lease up front and they said they can't. Never made sense to me.

Oh, and one other thing. What is the best place to pull a one time credit report online? I don't want to get into some monthly bullshit plan. Just want to view my comprehensive credit report.

At myfico.com, you can pull all 3 for a one time fee of somewhere in the $45 range. They are available to view for a month after you purchase them.
