I was born and raised Catholic. I went to Catholic school from 3rd grade all through High School.

But luckily I live in the U.S. Specifically San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most culturally diverse and tolerant places in the world.

I've had black, white, Asian, Hindu, Buddhist,Muslim etc.. friends growing up. It doesn't matter to me at all what color u are or what your religion is. All that I care about is if you are an honest person that treats people fairly PERIOD!

I know for a FACT that the Muslim religion does not preach violence and hatred, at least here in the U.S. I remember when I was around 11 or 12 my good friend up the street was Muslim. Completely normal kid with a super friendly family. He had some of the coolest toys so I loved going over to his place to play. Well one day in his room I came across a book. Some large oversized kids book with lots of pictures and stuff. Well it was his religion book that he was reading as part of his religion classes he attended. The lesson he was reading was about respecting all life regardless if it was human life or not. The picture story was about a group of people making a camp fire in the woods. Unfortunately they built it right next to an ant hill which sent the ants running. Well the story continued on to explain how the campers put out the fire and moved it over so that the ants could live in peace.

I of course being a kid and we know how kids can sometimes be mean...so I kinda laughed and made jokes that it's just ants, so why bother wasting time to move a camp fire just to save some ants.

Looking back on him, his family and that story always reminds me that Muslims are no different than any other religion. Every religion has good honest people. And every religion also has crazy fundamentalists too. The fundamentalists needs to be taught tolerance.

Sorry for the long as post. But I agree with everything u said Izzy!

I wish more of the world (including other parts of the U.S) would learn the tolerance that is openly practiced in the San Francisco Bay Area.

All followers of Islam are a threat to peaceful people, because they have to hate unbelievers in order to qualify to be a Muslim. i do believe islam is the greatest faith and therefore i wish everyone would convert to it, but i would never force it upon them, even our greatest prophet after years of fighting to spread the faith finally stopped and condemned the violence. then began to preach peacefully.

christianity has done more harm than any religion ever. from the crusades to their conquering and establishment of colonies across the world. look at what england portugal france spain and the dutch did?

It is very interesting that most people that have a distorted view of Muslims and Islam are not aware of the fact that Islam actually has a place of respect and reverence for central figures in Christianity and Judaism. In fact, there are whole dedicated chapters in the Quran for Moses and Jesus. The deity of Islam is the same deity for Christianity and Judaism--God the Father. This fact should deflate the argument that Islam does not possess "Judaeo-Christian values". The latter thinking smacks of the intolerance and ignorance of the Crusades.

One thing is indisputable though, the extremism of a few as well as the perceived "Islamicized" veneer of atavistic cultural practices ("honor killings", child labor, etc) produces a slanted and skewed view of Islam as a whole. Just like with any other religion, its practitioners possess a huge diversity and cannot be pigenoholed into one media image. Same with Christians and atheists, while 99.9% are regular people with regular values there's that .1% that are extremely intolerant and totalitarian.

If you were knowledgeable, you'd know that under Islamic law, once any territory has been ruled by Muslims it can never again be under non-Muslim control. If Muslim territory comes under non-Muslim control, the Ummah must not rest until that land is reconquered.

Ah, it's the old 'if I point the finger at Christianity it will make Islam look magically better' argument is it. How unfortunate for you that type of argument does not work.

What makes Islam and Christianity different is that the Qur'an is the word of god but the Bible is not. Even the Vatican issued a statement last year saying that the Bible was not the word of god and shouldnt be viewed as such. So, Christianity is open to interpretation and change with the times but Islam is not, as the word of god cannot be changed or altered, it is eternal.

Therefore, if the Qur'an says to 'hate the unbelievers' then that is what must be done, for all time. It cannot be changed. Who are mere humans to change god's word?

This is why Muslims are able to commit acts of terror and genocide and use the Qur'an and Hadiths to justify it, but Christians are unable to do the same with the Bible. In any case, that pesky 'thous shalt not kill' rule always gets in the way.

But luckily I live in the U.S. Specifically San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most culturally diverse and tolerant places in the world. I've had black, white, Asian, Hindu, Buddhist,Muslim etc.. friends growing up. It doesn't matter to me at all what color u are or what your religion is. All that I care about is if you are an honest person that treats people fairly PERIOD! I know for a FACT that the Muslim religion does not preach violence and hatred, at least here in the U.S. I remember when I was around 11 or 12 my good friend up the street was Muslim. Completely normal kid with a super friendly family. He had some of the coolest toys so I loved going over to his place to play. Well one day in his room I came across a book. Some large oversized kids book with lots of pictures and stuff. Well it was his religion book that he was reading as part of his religion classes he attended. The lesson he was reading was about respecting all life regardless if it was human life or not. The picture story was about a group of people making a camp fire in the woods. Unfortunately they built it right next to an ant hill which sent the ants running. Well the story continued on to explain how the campers put out the fire and moved it over so that the ants could live in peace. I of course being a kid and we know how kids can sometimes be mean...so I kinda laughed and made jokes that it's just ants, so why bother wasting time to move a camp fire just to save some ants. Looking back on him, his family and that story always reminds me that Muslims are no different than any other religion. Every religion has good honest people. And every religion also has crazy fundamentalists too. The fundamentalists needs to be taught tolerance. Sorry for the long as post. But I agree with everything u said Izzy!
