For me...

The greatest thing I like about america is

1) I can pimp men all day long!
2) I can get my muff buttered and not worry about what other's say.
3) I can wear a t-shirt saying "Bisexual" or "Fuck" and no one thinks twice.
4) I can go to an all you can eat resturant and literally eat all I want without a snooty waiter making coments.
5) Walmart is one stop christmas shopping.
6) Bullshit car insurance for $25 a month.
7) Buy a 30 year old car for 200 bucks and it actually passes safety!
8) Women not only wear make up but have a clue how to put it on.
9) Discount lawyers that are actually able to do their job.
10) Everyone one of you amercan bastards on GFY.

All it took to put some damn brains in my head about the USA was a few years of living abroad. Truely the greatest nation on earth!!!

6. We have the most advanced military presence the globe has ever seen.
7. Consumerism. From fake breasts to gas guzzling cars. If it can be sold, I can buy it.
8. Entertainment. Movies, music, and television.
9. Capitalism. It's my place to make something and thrive on it in a free market.

You can't argue with your line of thinking, you've been brainwashed by the consumer machine. WalMart is killing the small stores (and originality and creativity) along with it, not to mention putting many good people out of business.

But hey, I agree for convenience and everyday items it can't be beat ... but would you buy *all* of your Christmas gifts there? My hunch is you would with that mentality!

In fairness, as a Canadian, I'll put up things I do like about America (in no order):

1) As a film buff, clearly USA has produced some of the greatest films ever. Though lately they are becoming rarer and rarer.
2) The Interent was virtually invented there. Without it, I'm not sure what I'd be doing now! Perhaps a checkout clerk at Wal-Mart (yes we have them here)

3) Science. No one can argue the US has spent zillions on space exploration, fighting diseases and just about everything else.
4) Much better beaches than we have.
5) Sports. As big as soccer is worldwide, I'd still rather watch NFL football any day. Baseball, bleh.
6) USA is kind of like a big brother that you don't generally like - loud, obnoxious and hogs the remote. But if I'm being bullied at school, he's there to stand up for me. (And with our military, that's a pretty important thing!)
7) Las Vegas. The golden era is long gone, but it's still an insanely addictive place.
8) If you ever feel like life's dealt you a shitty hand, just watch Jerry Springer, Cops or Dog: The Bounty Hunter. Cured.
9) In the adult biz, for one, there are a ton of great people from the U.S., I've been thankful to meet a few.
10) Trailer parks. Okay, I confess, it's my dream to live in one. We have some here, sure, but just not the same

We do have a capitalist economy and that does mean that businesses will thrive and others will fail. Wal-Mart puts small stores out of business because people would rather shop with them. As for originality and creativity, I guess the consumers aren't looking for that. When all is said and done, if I can get something cheaper without the "originality and creativity", I'll do it.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart but I used to go to Target a lot in college. I think the Wal-Mart/white trash correlation came from the fact that Wal-Mart expanded in predominanently lower class neighborhoods for awhile. They do bring a ton of jobs into communitites and you'll be hard pressed to find a place where you can shop for DVDs, socks, toilet paper, and some spark plugs in the same place

With that said, there are things bad about Wal-Mart. They should offer better health benefits to workers.

Quite a tight list. I can identify with several of your reasons for sure. I would, however, probably substitute your #10 for "Hot American women"

3. Women - Crazy hot honeys.
4. Cars - Classic heavy metal that other countries cant touch EVER.

6. Rights - Free speech, freedom to gather peacefully, etc.
7. Abilites - We can feed ourselves, defend ourselves and support ourselves.
8. Food - The scope of regional dishes is insane. You can get nearly anything
9. History - Vibrant history of whats makes my homeland great
10. Power - The US has absolute power. Anyone else is a few hours flight time from being wiped off the map.

Hate it if you want, but when it comes down to it, the United States is the top dog on the Globe. We just have a fucked up leader at the momment, but, that can change here and all is well in no time.

5. The middle part of our country is not only the least educated but they also make all the important decisions for us.
6. Almost 1 year after Katrina and we still haven't figured out how to get the refridgerators out of the trees.
7. Murderers & Child molestors get off while pot smokers get 5 years.
8. We need warnings on gas pumps to tell us not to smoke near them and not to inhale the fumes.
9. We refuse to use the metric system, but we label everything with the metric system.

Walmart is driving the price and the quality of the goods available to you down.

They buy cheaper goods to put the little guys around them out of business. then the smaller guys buy cheaper goods to compete, until everyone is slinging shit, and that is all you are left with.

i personally banned myself form walmart, i also voted against it during school i was on the executive board of CPES for guelph...so we had one vote....it counted and they are not in guelph.

if you shop at walmart you are hurting your own country and the people around you. I also dont like how we allowed them to just buy up prime realestate all over the country. another brilliant move.

Though lately they are becoming rarer and rarer. 2) The Interent was virtually invented there. Without it, I'm not sure what I'd be doing now! Perhaps a checkout clerk at Wal-Mart (yes we have them here) 3) Science. No one can argue the US has spent zillions on space exploration, fighting diseases and just about everything else. 4) Much better beaches than we have. 5) Sports. As big as soccer is worldwide, I'd still rather watch NFL football any day. Baseball, bleh. 6) USA is kind of like a big brother that you don't generally like - loud, obnoxious and hogs the remote. But if I'm being bullied at school, he's there to stand up for me. (And with our military, that's a pretty important thing!) 7) Las Vegas. The golden era is long gone, but it's still an insanely addictive place. 8) If you ever feel like life's dealt you a shitty hand, just watch Jerry Springer, Cops or Dog: The Bounty Hunter. Cured. 9) In the adult biz, for one, there are a ton of great people from the U.S., I've been thankful to meet a few. 10) Trailer parks. Okay, I confess, it's my dream to live in one. We have some here, sure, but just not the same

There are many countries now with more 'freedom' than America has.
