Keep eggs as fresh as possible by storing them in the refrigerator in their original carton as soon as you get home. The carton protects the eggs from absorbing flavors and odors of other foods nearby, especially from strong-smelling foods like onions, cheese or cabbage. Keep raw foods (meats, poultry, and eggs) separate from cooked foods in the refrigerator.
Keep eggs refrigerated at 4hahaha176; C (40 hahaha176; F) or lower at all times. Keep eggs in the main body of the fridge (not on the door). This will keep them at a more constant, colder temperature. Keep eggs in their original cartons. This will protect them from taking on any off-odors from any strong-smelling goods in the fridge (eg. onions, strong chesses or meats). Leftover raw egg whites and yolks should be put in airtight containers and stored in the refrigerator immediately. To prevent yolks from drying up, cover them with a little cold water. Drain the water before using. Storage Times Refrigerator Raw whole eggs Use by "Best Before" Date Raw yolks or whites Use within 2 to 4 days Hard-cooked eggs in the shell Use within 1 week

i stopped buying eggs, bc i always ended throwing them away.
the solution, egg beaters!! for one, its EASY as shit to pour into a pan and fry up some scrambled eggs, but best of all, it lasts like 2-3 months i think. (pretty sure what i have in the fridge expires like april 15th) little more expensive, but worth it when you dont throw it away! |

For a while, just look for the expiration date.

They last longer then the date on the cartoon. I buy the more expensive "organic" eggs that are from uncaged hens and they are fresher then normal eggs... They last way longer.

Eggs usually don't spoil, but the liquid slowly evaporates through the porousity of the shell.
I buy them in bulk. After a few weeks the air bubble inside grows bigger, which you can see if you boil and peel them. But they are fine to cook and eat. |

Typically I have never seen cage free hen eggs ever in a supermarket either, just at farmers markets and even then they still are basicly caged animals. It would be very damn hard to try to have open range chickens laying eggs where ever they desired.

If you go to Hong Kong you can eat what they call the 100 year old egg. In fact they are duck eggs that have been kept in a cool dark place covered in charcoal and dirt for 3-4 months. The flavor is "rich, pungent and cheese-like." and the color is green with blue bits in it. I recommend you try them if you get the chance although if you see them for sale at Burger King it wont be the same!!
Normal Chicken or hens eggs have a right way up and last longer if stored the right way up. i forget if its pointed side facing down or up ? |

I will however still claim that organic eggs will not last longer than typical eggs if they are of the same grade. I will go so far as to say that typical eggs will last longer than non assembly line eggs actually. Since the time from laying to refrigeration is longer in non assembly line eggs and that is the key point in egg aging. Quicker to refrigerate the longer they last.

As long as the eggs don't show any cracks.
