Have you ever seen people with bumper stickers that say "War Is Not The Answer?" Everytime I see one, I think, ok I can't say that I agree with the war, but if war isn't the answer than what is??? All these people with their bumper stickers, seem to know what that answer is, and I personally would like to know exactly what that answer entails........

Besides I don't ever recall anyone really even asking a question, and even if the question was "how do we stop terrorism?" That still wouldn't jusitfy the answer being given, since we all know the war in Iraq isn't about terrorism..........

Maybe I'm just rambling on, but this has been bugging me for some time now, and I had to get it out.......

terrorism existed long before iraq. it existed long before the US existed. someone willl always feel "wronged" or find some rationalization to do anything possible to fight for what they believe in, no matter how twisted it may be.

I can drive around with a bumper sticker that reads, "KingAsher is not 3 years old," without knowing how old you really are, or implying that I know how old you really are.

In fact, everyone could agree that the statement on my bumper sticker is true without having any idea of your actual (true) age.

The only thing the bumper sticker is saying is that you are not 3 years old. Maybe I know how old you really are, and maybe I don't.

Maybe I know what the answer is, other than war, maybe I don't. It makes no difference. The message is that I know that you are not 3 years old and the other message is that I know war is not the answer. No more, no less.

If you do a full accounting, the US has probably spent a trillion dollars in the war on terror. Not just money spent on the invasions, but also on the security enhancements. Now, Halibuton has got a huge chunk of that, so Bush and Co won't think of that as cost. More a benefit.

But the US taxpayer is taking it up the ass. And the deficit is huge, so the future generations can enjoy getting fucked as well.

Now, Sept 11 was a bitch. Something like 3,500 people died, and a couple of towers were destoyed. And the Pentagon had a small missle size hole punched into it.

Almost 3,000 military personnel have died in Iraq and Afghanistan, and about 20,000 more are missing significant body parts.

Iraq is in chaos, as is Afghanistan.

What do you have to show for the trillion, and all the deaths and maimings?

bin Laden is still at large.

Perhaps *not* responding to Sept 11, would have been the more profitable decision.

the idea that "war is not the answer" - requires that there be only one way to percieve and interpret the world around us and that that singular view can be universally shared by all. unless you think that you can somehow turn the planet into robots running on a common set of instructions, there will always be suspicion, paranoia, insecurity, pain, suffering, inequality, hate, fear and a host of a near infinite number of reasons that people will believe those conditions exist, who's to blame and how those problems can be solved.... if you can agree that those things will always exist, then you have to understand that someone is always going to be willing to take things as far as possible or exploit the situation.

Pleasurepays BANNED - SUPPORTING TUBES Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: I live in a pile of boogers Posts: 11,913	this whole "war is not the answer" discussion is completely retarded. its the product of a dream that totally ignores basic human behavior, millions of years of evolution and even reality. the idea that "war is not the answer" - requires that there be only one way to percieve and interpret the world around us and that that singular view can be universally shared by all. unless you think that you can somehow turn the planet into robots running on a common set of instructions, there will always be suspicion, paranoia, insecurity, pain, suffering, inequality, hate, fear and a host of a near infinite number of reasons that people will believe those conditions exist, who's to blame and how those problems can be solved.... if you can agree that those things will always exist, then you have to understand that someone is always going to be willing to take things as far as possible or exploit the situation. it also assumes that sociopathic, psychopathic megalomaniacs are just going to stop being what they are, stop trying to do anything to get power, stop all thier insanity in rallying people behind insane ideas - whether it is the idea that jews run the earth or that a spaceship is coming in the tale of the hale bop comet to save a select group of people from certain death. our most basic needs as living organisms, or most basic, innate and genetically programmed behaviors will always prevail - being to do everything to ensure our own safety and security, to do everything to ensure our genes are passed on. would you give your last bit of food to others counting on others to feed you when you have nothing? of course not. we are not programmed to behave that way. we are programmed to get agressive and take more food by force if necessary to protect ourselves and our own. we are nothing more than useless bacteria on a little blue rock in the middle of an impossibly huge universe, devoting our time to convincing ourselves that our lives have purpose and meaning.... it doesn't. we are all just pawns carrying out natures plan of continuous growth and rejuvination through continuous death and destruction. and paul... now that you know where the center of terrorism is.... please devote your time to finding the center of decent photography.
