If I had to live at bare expenses I could do so at about $500 a month.
My place is paid for, that amount would cover utilities, phone, internet and groceries.

Edit: 50 costs of living

In the Houston area, At Least 2500$ a month to pay for a rent or mortgage, utlities, vehicle payments/insurance, and food/gas. That's just for a regular apartment or small house, if you want to live in something swanky, well that is a lot. I have a friend paying over $5,000 a month in RENT but that's for a big ass house in the Humble area of Houston (rich).

My monthly expenses.

Moped: Paid for $10 for gas
Tent: typically pitched in clearings and under overpasses free
Food: get by on what others throw away and give aways from generous passersby.

$10

ROTFL.
middle class would be the average high income group. Net worth in the $100K to $500K range.

upper middle are the corporate execs and professionals income group. Net worth in the $1 to $3 Mil range.

carefree wealthy would be the successful small business owners who do really well and can pretty much buy all the toys. Net worth in the $3 to $10 Mil range.

living great is when you got more money than you can spend even when you're buying the toys, but you still need to keep doing deals to support the lifestyle. Net worth in the $10 to $25 mil range.

rich and famous is when you've got huge income, you're living fantastic lifestyle, and you've got enough to stop working if you want to, and you're passive investments are able to sustain a huge lifestyle. Typically a net worth in the $25 to $100 Mil range

super rich is when you're a major player, worth over $100 mil but not a billionaire yet, and have so much money coming in you can't even manage your lifestyle yourself and need a team and assistants for all aspects of your life.

ultra rich is when you are a billion dollar and up player.

In the sunny Vancouver suburbs, I'd say minimum of $2500-3000Cdn a month to squeak by, unless you live somewhere crappy. I've got a nice enough place that I rent for 900$ a month.

I bought at a time here 5 years ago when it was $100k got you a 3 bed 2 bath twin.

5 years later, the same houses are almost $400k in our development that we paid $100k for. The housing prices here are out of control to say the least....

$10k a month+ here and you can live very comfortably.

Our expenses are over $1500. We don't have a car and almost no social life (we spend some time with my wife's parents). Like TGF I don't buy dvd's, clothes or shoes... well, my wife buys some clothes and shoes. We eat out a couple of times per month, sometimes more. Simple but good life

I would love to move somewhere warm. I was looking at Vegas since there is a huge rental housing market, but it looks like I'd be limited to 183 days per year. Maintaining 2 homes that are both vacant for 6 months of the year sounds like a big headache.

Still searching...

LOL, have a nice life baller

Why are people leaving "real developed countries" and moving to "3rd world countries"?

OK.. Not primarily over money - they move because the quality of life is vastly superior. You may also be surprised at the standard of healthcare and education system in "3rd world countries". (OK.. ain't taking about the Congo)

I've never met anyone who escaped "real developed countries" who had any interest in returning to them. What for?

On the $800/month living costs - that is not what he earns. Earnings are the same irrespective of "rich or poor" country. He can bank the rest of his net revenue (and, can't say for that specific country), but often bank em tax free.

Try telling the "real developed country" govt you object to the crap air you breath and don't want to pay any more taxes and see what they say!

$900! In Vancouver? I'll assume its a one bedroom. I knew a girl living out there right around Tinseltown by GM Place. She was paying $1300/mth. The apartment was so small I could stand at the front door and spit and it would hit the back window. She just loved the hustle and bustle of the city life though.

I'm in Tsawassen, in a posh basement suite. $900 a month gets me 900 sq. ft. of laminate fake hardwood floors, drop ceilings, track lighting, and a full backyard and a house alarm with my own security code. Oh, and parking. Cable, internet access, power, in suite laundry, is all included. I'm happy.

Damn girl! That's awesome. I've got a bit more space, but by the time I pay mortgage, condo fees, taxes, utilities...it's almost double. And I'm nowhere near an ocean.

Well, my previous dwelling had a mortgage of $1400 a month plus a few thousand a year in property taxes, plus $150 for power, $40 internet, $50 cable, $40 phone, $15 alarm, $60 lawn guys. That was 15 mins away from here. That was 1400 sq. ft. detached house with all hardwood floors, new roof, about 1/4 acre yard.

Fuck

Id love a place like this ( Peles Castle in Sinaia ) fucking amazing place to live. I almost purchased a castle in Scotland before moving to California. It had 13 miles of coastline included in the sale and the castle was huge 120,000 sq ft. But some farmer had used it to store grain and all the internal walls had been removed. At only £98,000 about $150,000 it was a steal but needed about $500,000 spent on getting it back in shape.
Way too much work!!

Romania isn't the only place where you don't need a lot of money to live.... A lot of nice countries in Eastern Europe are very pleasant to live, and very cheap (Bulgary, Hungary, Slovenia....)

mm it depends on a lot of factors I guess...but montreal isn't really that expansive...I pay 1000$/MO for a loft in one of the nice areas of montreal(plateau for those familiar with mtl)...BUT I spend a lot LOL...but.. I'd say around 2.5/3k CND a month and you're happy!

Romania isn't the only place where you don't need a lot of money to live.... A lot of nice countries in Eastern Europe are very pleasant to live, and very cheap (Bulgary, Hungary, Slovenia....)
Hi discoparty,
I am from Bulgaria

$5000 a month would be enough for a simple living here.
