Hey webair mike, since you are hiring people...

hey while you are at it, you might want to hire some real techs. i dunno gerard but i bet he is another one of those standard support guys. all good and friendly but they cant get any tech shit done. everything that is hard to do needs to be done by some mysterious super tech admin. but it seems he is never around. i lost thousands $ this week because of tech errors and bad configured settings. and they still not fixed it. i am moving my stuff from you because of this. just a tip.

wait, let me people tell you how i really feel: webair's tech support is lacking big time.

you're one of the 3 people who continually bag on webair, against the 300 who swear by webair...

you are a nobody, nobody has ever heard of you, and you've not done anything of note in this industry... the big boys who are in the know, are with webair... its the truth, how does that taste?

I must admit. For a long while I have been a great supporter of webair. But finally even I am thinking of moving my two decicated boxes. I doubt I'm a big enougth player to be any concern, but it seems a shame to let two boxes go when if you got the little things sorted, like, some up time, emails that worked, MYSQYL that worked, that I would stay

Yep Mikle is top notc. But everytime you need an isue fixing, should you always have to track down the owner?

Sometimes I just need some little things fixing, like some decent uptime. emails that work, MYSQYL that works, support that gets answered. instead of always having to try and contact Mike

i had the same issues with webair. my server was hacked and compromised, in the end we ended up getting in a verbal dispute over what "compromised" really meant - go figure.

juicy: mike has been always helpful - there are 3 guys over there that knows whats up - mike who is the owner, sagi, and i believe this one tech brian who i dealth with. those guys are worth their weight in gold, everyone else was clueless about customer support.

those 3 guys dont do you good when they are not in, or you are redirected to one of their other incompetent techs. i had a whole talk with sagi about how the whole attitude over there needs to change, and he agreed with me. everything got deleted off my server 4 TIMES, 4 SEPARATE TIMES. after the 1st time, i took it so seriously we had all the login and passes changed, after the 2nd, they still said nothing was wrong. After the 3rd time, they started to listen - after 3 separate issues of all my shit being deleted. it then went down one more time, before i switched out of there.

it turns out someone had php-backdoored my server.. you could execute any command, right from the net, unsecured. how it got there wasn't their fault. shaky support, failure to investigate the cause and shrugging me off is what landed me 4 downtimes in about a 10 day period. not picking up on the problem after I had drawn attention to it...

every single one of my affiliates knew about it. i switched over to isprime, no problems yet.

i can't even tell you some of the frustrations and things i went thru over there. one of their techs did a backup after one of the times my site got deleted - they backed it up with a version they had from 3 months prior (who the hell knows why they still had it to begin with)!!!!

bob would tell me things would get done, then leave the office to go home before they got done! un-fucking-believable. after that, i had no choice but to switch, and thats exactly what i told sagi.

It seems that things are allways good at webair, untill something goes wrong.
Then you're pretty much a sitting duck, untill the "lead admin" comes around.

Happened to me before, I know how it is. Some of the guys are helpfull though, and they get credit for trying. I guess there's only so much they can do.

at one day we had 17.5 hours of downtime with Webair.
"fault cable" they said.. and no one penny as a compensation.
I have a $100 credit for each 60 min of downtime with my other hoster

(I'm also with isprime, although I can't say the technical aspects are their strength. Their lack of control panels on semi-dedicated is a big weakness. Their uptime has been 100% for me though.)

Unless you are someone that can come to GFY and raise hell and have a following, then you are a nobody, and webair is the best . People see the light eventually.

I have not heard of one single person complain about their support. ICQ, email, 1-800 phone 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They host some seriously massive companies. Fuck casio.com is there now, that speaks volumes. As for control panels, they are security freaks and are completing a customm panel as I speak.

-- "I have not heard of one single person complain about their support."

Yea that's why I edited it and changed "Tech support" to "Technical aspects" cause I do agree they reply quickly and try (key word being try) to help. It's a big weakness to lack a controlpanel completely though, and it's not a picknick having to email them about every tiny detail (email aliases, settings, etc). On my last host I could do 95% of that stuff myself and that's the way I like it.

I have been with Webair for over a year and have NEVER had an issue that wasn't addressed by the support staff in a prompt, professional, knowledgeable and courteous fashion.

Stop whining.

edit: Ive probably hosted 20 domains with them. I'm very pleased.

If a control panel is a high priority for you, you can ask tech support to set up one of the many free open source control panels for you, or you can get a license to CPanel or whatever. The reason most hosts offer control panels on all setup is because of the cost savings it allows, by allowing for the customers to manage things themselves, without having to have a 24/7 staff of clued techs. There are some serious performance, security, and reliability reasons to not to run a control panel (you think major sites like playboy.com, bangbus.com, nastydollars use CPanel?) Ultimately, even if you escape any security or reliability reasons in the short term it simply won't scale for large high performance sites. ISPrime has 24/7 tech support, with clued employees. If it were up to me, I'd prefer having intelligent admins watching after my server, not a script designed to lower costs of operations for a host.

what the fuck is all the bitching & complaining.. i got a virtual account. a whole measly 20 bucks i paid.. & everyone i ever had contact with via chat, email or telephone has been courteous & helpful. that goes a long way with me, because i am just getting started & when traffic picks up & i need a dedicated or an upgrade, i'll remember the helpful staff & i know who will have my business. i really cant relate to anything anyones complaining about.. if the staff can bend over backwards for a measly $20 virual account i'm sure the bigger accounts get excellent service just as well.. they made me feel like even the smaller businesses are just as important.. i cant say the same about a couple other hosts that post around here..

I only have one problem with WebAir and that is...that you can't get good RAW LOGs with them. I can't go into my raw logs and find out which web site the surfer clicked through to get to mine. I have a Virtual Account ($9.95 a month). I would have to pay for an upgrade to Dedicated just to get that. But why would I do that when I can get the more detailed raw logs elsewhere for the same price I'm paying now? It's like McDonald's trying to charge you for ketchup IMO. Sadly, I will have to leave WebAir in the coming months. But I love everything else about them. It will be a sad day when I leave.

Yes it is high priority. I prefer being able to take backups, create email aliases, set hotlinking, check stats/visitors, etc myself and not having to bother people about the small things. When we signed up for an account on Isprime they promised us that a panel for their semi-dedicated servers was on the way and would be installed shortly. After that I've asked them at least ten times about it and the replies are quite vague ("sometime in the future perhaps").

Big sites like that have root access to install whatever they want. I don't have root access on my account and thus rather little freedom to decide what runs there and what doesn't. At the same time I have no need for a dedicated machine yet since we're a rather small site. A control panel is a compromise that would work just fine at the moment.

Sure, they have good support and I don't mind that but I don't think it has to be an either/or situation. And if I had to choose I'd go with more freedom to admin the account rather than people standing by to do my work.

I don't need CP and other shit.
All I need is just uptime of my servers and installations at time.

I have full time very experienced system administrator here in the office and he said:

WEBAIR sucks

and I say too:

WEBAIR sucks

If you want root on your system, ask for it, that's part of the purpose of semi-dedicated over a virtual system. All users can have root on their part of the system, without being able to effect other users on the system. Just email support and ask for it.

I have my own dedicated server with isprime and I must say I dont mind emailing them, even for the small shit, They are very quick and I'd rather have someone who knows what they are doing setting up something, regardless if i had a cpanel or not.

Alot of people play with the cpanel and dont know what the hell they are doing, then they end up emailing support to fix it all for them. I'd much rather just deal with support in the beginning.

We gave them a try as well about 8 months ago. They had really bad customer service for us as well. I will not say that we lost money, except what we paid. The CS could not even get a db set up for us. It took almost a week, and then it was done wrong.

Just how things happened to us. But we dont start threads about this stuff.

I have not had any downtime with webair in years. Sometimes I have an issue. This is always because I am not a tech and there are some things I just dont get. I just have to communicate very clearly what and how I want things and they get it done for me in no time. Any which way I want it...
