Goodbye Google PageRank - Hello TrustRank

Sorry people, the sky is falling with 2257 in place and now the transition phase from PageRank to TrustRank has occured.

http://www.search-marketing.info/new...nk-company.htm

...or maybe they're just having technical difficulties and everything will be back as normal shortly?

What it means, is that if a large percentage of your links come from sites which are not well trusted search engines could either discount those links, or produce a negative weight against your site which more than compensates for the gains given from link spamming.
And therein lies the flaw that means it won't get complete usage in G's algo: All I have to do to hurt a competitor is set up links to him on garbage link farms, spam boards, etc. Never happen - at least not in terms of ranking sites in the SERPs.

That trustrank thing sounds similar to the hilltop algorithm that was highly debated all over se forums a year-and-a-half ago. Nothing new and still only speculation. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it at this point.

Exactly, knowing how to penalize a site is just as valuable as knowing how to push a site higher in the SERPs.

ah, hehe, well from my experience triangular link schemes work really well, but just cuz they work well, doesnt mean google cant detect them ;)

in the future if they were to implement a system like this trustrank, i'd watch out for it.

I read it as Trust Rank will only care about trusted sites, even if it?s passed through to a lesser site. If my site was flagged as trusted, and your non-trusted sites are bombing me, I don?t think the trust rank will care. With your site back linking me from hell and back, you help in my page rank, or get your own site flagged as a spam or non-trusted site.

I could be wrong though; I?m not an SE expert.

The sky is not falling, people. We'll find out the algorithm's tendancies, and beat it yet again. Give me the rules of the game, and I'll find a way to beat them, so long as it doesn't involve the DOJ

Always fascinates me when people hear a new buzzword mentioned somewhere and take it as being gospel.

But then 'trustrank' is also a long way from being something that's just appeared in Google as so many people think for some strange reason. It's also a lot more involved than certain 'experts' who write articles seem to think.

Still - keeps people happy and feeling superior 'cause they know the latest buzzword and gives the dodgy seo companies (90% of them) a new word to impress their clients with.

My only 2c on it

This is the elimination of PageRank as we know it.

Follow my logic here:

These new regulations affect everyone.
What matters in SEO is to come out on top of everyone else.
We are (most of us at least) more competent than your average weekend warrior webmaster.
Therefore, we will come out on top, still.

What are we worried about?

Well, I'm glad that I didn't build my entire business model around google PR like some people have

I still sell the "good enough to get off on" porn and it does just fine
