good shit lens. the 'most posts' thing was getting tired.
i'd say that if someone who is not a top advertiser wants to run a contest, it should need to be approved by adult.com staff first, and possibly even a small fee for the contest. obviously running a contest here gets you a high degree of notariety for your program, so why not just treat them like advertisers? as for limits i think 3 contests at a time, and ones running for no more than a week a so would be quite fair.

I think to add to that, contests should be limited to a week at most and also the prizes should be reachable not like 1000 posts apart- that encourages tons of posts by surfers. It should be reachable like every 50 or every 100. |

Oh and Lens please make an example out of Silent_Thunder he has been busted on using multiple nicks in the contest threads I think one of the other nicks he used is Shindler and he is the reason of the Lithuanian invasion.
Its tough for us honest contest whores to do anything about it most of the people having the contests do´t seem to interested to do anything about it.

The problem with limited contest threads is that you can't say only X number at a time because then is it first come first serve - and a company can replace their old one with a new one filling that spot. It should be that each company can only do one a quarter or month, etc.
And they obviously need to be a sponsor. ;) ***

And max 3 contests at the same time. Also, one contest should be limited to 1-5K max posts, and there is the stop. After reaching that posts level thread would be closed.

I do like limiting contests to a set time - one week seems sufficient. Maybe 2 weeks.

So, new rule #1: No 'whoever has the mosts posts in this thread wins' contests.
GREAT RULE Next rule: Limit on how many times and how frequently someone can post in a contest thread. What should that be? We don't need non-webmasters coming in here and taking over these contests. I'd say depending on how long you can have the contest - so if it's going to be a few day/weeklong thread, say between 100-200 - if it's a thread that ends today, then 5 or 10. Also, if possible, if it's a bot and it can be recognized, that it be automatically blocked that user until a mod can reinstate the name if it's legit. Next rule: How many concurrent contests should be allowed? And how long can they last, maximum? Concurrent contests - max 2 - I don't know about time limits but I'd like them not to be eligible for bumps if they are finished - close or lock them when they are through. |

1st rule: awesome!
Next rule: max of 100 times/per contest but, ONLY 1 CONTEST A WEEK..too many of the same people are winning all these contests. That needs to stop. Next rule: 2 max. If they have to time to participate in more than 2 contests on GFY a week, I'd start to question their status as a "webmaster". |

when reading some of your guys rule suggestion there is only one thing that comes to my mind. how can I thank god for beeing so much smarter than those are...
some of these suggestions make me wanna laugh and cry at the same time. lens... i think whatever you will come up with is going to be fine. there are not many things you have to take into account a major one should be: how to stop non-webmasters to spend their day off from wendys trying to make 100 bucks by writing 100s of useless posts in an hour. |

1. Limit contests to 1 week in duration.
2. Charge a fee to post a contest sinc eit is costing you advertising dollars. 3. Make design contests immune to the rules and fees. 4. Provide and 800 number to report spam posters and forward it to Juicy's home number. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Why not make a contest forum? Allow one contest announcement thread in the main forum with the caveat that the announcement forum can not turn into it's own contest. I could see people abusing that thread, bumping it every three minutes, etc. I think if it's a good, carefully planned contest the thread would survive. Actually, who cares if it survives? If you want to do contests, check the contest forum.
You have a traffic trade/link forum because there were too many posts for that in the main; do the same with contests. You could then have as many contests as people wanted. I would still set some reasonable limits; no person or organization could have more than one contest per week; contests can not last longer than one week; absolutely no "most posts win" contests. No consecutive posts is a great idea. However, if you remove the "most posts" type of contest, you probably won't have to worry about spam posting. Having a maximum number of posts per contest per person is really not maintainable. Who wants to count everyone's posts then do a final accounting at the end? Blah.. Again, removing the "most posts" contests should resolve this for the most part. This one is important to me: Contests should have to be a real contest. Each entry post should require some kind of work or product or be assignable to a measurement standard other than the number of posts, or, the post number. Giving a prize for post 100, et al, could be a secondary prize, but the real contest needs to be measureable. Example: Sarah from WebInc had a great contest a while back; post your best networking tips. 90% of the entries were on topic and useful to everyone. Well, maybe 80% :-) Disclaimer: I won that contest so I may be biased. Allow things like banner and logo contests. Caveat Emptor. Contests that involve creativity are the best. If someone doesn't choose a winner, ban the bastard and smear his name forever. He's using your board to commit fraud. Screw him. Again, caveat emptor. If you need the prize money that bad, don't gamble on a contest - do some work. I'd say, for banner/logo style contests with a cash value under $xxx (you can set your own limits), nothing needs to be done. Anything over that value, the money needs to be put in escrow, either formally, or, allowing a named third party to hold the funds. Someone or a few people could even volunteer to be the cash holders for the forum - make that an ongoing gig, not on a per-contest basis. I'd do that, but no one really knows me that well here After all that, one final thought. If you really want to clean up contests, and don't want to have a seperate forum, require that all contests be pinned by a mod. Change the style for those pinned threads so everyone not involved can visually skim past them - we'll all get used to three (or x) pinned contests at the top within a week. Apply the rest of the rules as needed. Lock the thread or kill it if it's out of control. If a mod has to be involved to hold a contest, you can be sure it's going to cut down on requests for bullshit. People will have to plan and schedule the contest, and get it approved in advance. No matter what happens, any outcome from this thread will be positive. |

As someone who advertises on gfy now and again (see sig ;)), I think it's important to limit mindless posts, so good call on that Lens. Maybe have a minimum post count to qualify for competitions.? Also have only 4 conests going on a day, and have them last a maximum of two weeks. That would contradict one of my competitions right now, but if it helps the overall smooth running of the board I'd be down with that. |

Only advertisers having contest is a great rule. How many at a time ? 1 per advertiser would be fair..Up to Lensman to decide if it is 1 per advertise at a time, or 1 per advertiser per week, month, etc.... not fair if advertiser 1, 2, and 3 have contest and advertiser 6 never gets any contest time. Has to be same for everyone. As far as post limitations... easy... pick a number? how about 10 if the person exceeds 10 post he is eliminated from winning... GFY standard rule. How to select the winner.. the person who post the most is stupid stupid stupid.. and did i mention stupid. I would suggest how about listing that the contest ends on set date. The next day take the last last 3 numbers of the close of the stock market that day... if not that then something else. sure you get the point.. pick something in the future like that everyone can check or themselves. score to a basket ball game plus hi temp in LA for that day.. anything i am sure you guys can get creative.. I was going to do a contest and was going to do it the way I listed above.. I just need to wait till i buy that spot now, which i planned on doing anyway

I would really suggest to think about the two "other" type of contests that happen here often.
1. The designer contests. Best banner, template, logo whatnot. Gives good exposure to designers and rarely are these ones rampant. 2. The "mindless" contests. Best photo caption, best photoshop, sheer goof off cheap contests. These ones would be key in keeping I think. They provide a great deal of humor and quality posting. Neither of those would I see coming from a top sponsor that often if ever.

First and foremost, I think all contests should be run past moderators first. And they should only be limited to paying advertisers on the board. Or perhaps have a contest sponsorship package?
Second, I think contest participation should be limited to active affiliates of the program. All contests should have an account with the program in question and be promoting them in some fashion. It really doesn't do any good to a program to give away $1000 to someone who has never sent a hit to their sites. All participants should have to post their affiliate ID at least once and winners should have to provide proof that they're promoting the program. Last, I wouldn't mind seeing postwhore contests banned. Limit contests to creative ones like Silvercash ran a while back where they posted a scavenger-hunt-like question each day and the answers could be found on their sites. That's my ![]()

Make a contest forum and limit that shit to one or two contests at a time for paid advertisers only.

I didn't read every single post here, so sorry if it's been mentioned but the new rules should be put under the GFY Rules link and all new contests need to be approved before being posted should do it.

I understand the need for some guidelines, however all these rules will take a lot of fun out of GFY. Hell many times when I am bored I will start a stupid guessing contest and give away cash just to bring some life to GFY when it is slow and there are no good topics to discuss. But I never do this whoever can make the mosts posts contests. So now I can't even do a "Guess the number of pimples on Sleazydreams ass" and win $100 cash contest? No fun
